How do you avoid getting hit with dimensional weight? My item is aprox 5 pounds, but it doubles or more by adding dimensional weight. I know this is 2 yrs old, but nonetheless, it still helps us figure out the complicated system of shipping! Thank-you
@therealz 360z this was a treaty that was created over a 50 years ago. It is astounding really. I got a package of adapters shipped from mainland China and only paid $1.00 in shipping, coming all the way to California at first and then shipped to me on the East Coast (it didn't take that long either). It would have cost me 5 times the price (and $12.95 shipping) if I bought these adapters from a store in the United States (even within the same state as me).
I can’t tell you how much this helped me. My daughter flew to TX for a visit and decided to stay. Now I’m faced with getting her belonging. I was stuck between shipping extra large boxes or breaking it down in smaller boxes. You saved my a$$
You also need to mention the limited deliverability of USPS. You first need to validate that the address is deliverable as there are over 15 million address that are not deliverable by the USPS. They'll still take your money and not tell you if the package is undeliverable until its returned with no refund.
Being an former Industrial Engineer and former Operational Manager for both UPS and FDX (Express, Ground, Home delivery, Freight family of FEDEX) for over 15 years; there are some secret hacks you may be unaware of with regards to shipping zones. There are some 3-5 day zones end to end that will get your package there NEXT DAY with 98.6% on-time accuracy - WITHOUT THE HIGH COST OF PAYING FOR ACTUAL NEXT DAY. (Next Day is 10:30 AM guarantee that you pay for. But some zones actually will deliver by 4:00 PM that are the standard 3-5 business day price; just by sheer default of the delivery logistics of both UPS and FDX companies - FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery and sometimes FedEx Freight).
Are you aware that USPS just "blew up" their under 16oz shipping service? They did 3 things: 1) max weight is now 13oz. 2) you cannot buy the postage online anymore, walk up stand in line only. 3) and of course they raised the prices. As far as I know PirateShip is the best under 16oz option now but I dint know how it works with ebay. Very sad.
You said it best! 📣 I used your sound-byte in my video about USPS Ground Advantage...Thanks for this awesome video!! PS... I linked your channel in my video 😃
USPS raised rates, yes, but I also had a package damaged en route. That's not good for business when my client receives damaged goods... My product is about a pound, so USPS is cheapest and they do have $100 insurance, but replacing a damaged product takes time which clients aren't crazy about either.
When I first stated selling stuff online a few weeks ago, I ended up breaking even or making only a penny on some items because I didn’t realize how expensive shipping was now. I have a few things a can’t sell bc it’s so expensive
Holy hell man that’s a lot of great info you put together! I noticed you only mentioned boxes. If I have a shirt to deliver that’s 1lb. Is it cheaper to use those plastic shipping packages versus the stand box?
Steve, I haven't heard you talk about Business class Priority mail "Regional rate" shipping. It's significantly cheaper than normal Priority mail. I will have to look into ShippingEasy & similar services. I also haven't heard you talk about Shopify's discounted USPS shipping (up to 88%) in your platform videos. It seems there are a ton of options out there.
They ALL have pros and cons. For me it’s all the same meaning shipping costs but with USPS package gets lost a lot and if received may be severely damaged‼️
UPS is horrible. My Christmas package was lost, even though I tracked it all the way to the destination. Even when it said”on route”. My sister stayed up waiting for the truck. I’m on the phone with her on and off, both of us waiting. Then all of the sudden, “Delivered” was on the tracking device. No truck ever even approached her home. This is from Austin tx to Louisville ky. The ups in Austin could have cared less. Down right rude to me about it.
I appreciate you spending the time to put out this video, but there is so many cheaper ways to ship than what you are mentioning in this video. Pirate Ship will generally get you the deepest discount if you are not using a platform like ebay. USPS is generally the most reliable and gets there the quickest and safest. UPS and FedEx can be cheaper for heavier packages, but are at higher risk for damage and we'll get there later. FYI...We shipped thousands of items a month. Where I do fully agree is the reliability on the expedited shipping services of UPS and FedEx. If you want something there overnight, our experiences is either one of those services is the best for that.
I work for a business we send our grain samples in america up to our world HQ in Winnipeg. We have three options. Dhl(which I don’t use because the closest drop off station 350 miles) , UPS which I use. And FedEx. The reason I use ups is they give us 80 percent off discount because we have a corporate account with them. We tried to get FedEx to match or even come close they wouldn’t even deal. So I view it as if you won’t deal I won’t use your service. We drive farther to ups . I know why everyone says why don’t we use usps. They are horrible. I send my parents stuff about 1000 miles from where I am they lose it . Only two nice things about usps they have a ton of locations so odds are one close. Two they run on Saturday.
For $12 Fedex padded pack flat rate coast to coast gets there in 3 days. Not the small or medium box the padded pack is somewhere in the middle and you can double up or reinforce with scrap cardboard filler. And their cut off times at certain locations and hubs are later than UPS.
Incredible information. Do you have a suggestion on the best places to get boxes to ship packages in? I want to be professional, and don't want to use "used" boxes. ULINE is who I am currently using, and they seem expensive.
you prefer shipping easy vs easy ship? also, for boxes, is Uline the best option for products larger 2.6 gal for paint for example? thank you for the video.
i want to sell something that is heavy and will ship out in 5 seperate BOX sections , each one weighing aprox 22 pounds each box.. Am i going to be charged much more because of the 5 individual boxes as compared to just one large box ?
Because the US government pays the shipping for Chinese companies. You still paid the shipping cost, it was just a hidden cost taken out of your income via taxes.
I would sell a local Hawaiian Spice, Li Hing Powder for 9.99 but would have to pay $3.49 of that on postage. Then the Ebay fees and the initial investment. I would only get a $2 profit. Now i sell as a 2-pack for $19.98 and since the extra weight didn't make a difference, I could recoup a bigger margin of profit by adding the second bag. I've noticed I'm seeing way more like this out there.
Does anyone know how I can actually ship USPS first class? You used to be able to do clip and ship for but if I recall correctly, but they don't offer that anymore! Do I actually have to go into a post office and pay for a label? And can I still get a tracking number when doing that?
I went in to mail a 1oz padded envelope and they wanted over 5 bucks! I just put a stamp on it and it never came back to me. The recipient reported no extra fee on their end either.
No. The only reason Chinese companies are able to do that is because the US federal government pays the shipping for Chinese sellers, so it comes out of our income via tax dollars. IDK which congressman got paid under the table for that to happen.
