This, in my opinion, one of the greatest pop-rock songs of all time. It still sounds absolutely fantastic now, all these years later. Iva Davies with the great vocal, the great sax solo, the great hooks and such an upbeat tune. Icehouse were such a great band.

ICEHOUSE did a lot of great songs.
ELECTRIC BLUE is not one of them.
Along with CRAZY, which is also a horrible song.
Just because songs are massively popular doesn't mean that they are good songs.
It means that they appeal to people with bad taste in music.
ELECTRIC BLUE made #1 in Australia and CRAZY made #4 in Australia.
I love and respect IVA DAVIES and ICEHOUSE, yet these 2 songs are an embarrassment.

I also saw them when they were still Flowers - and on the same bill as La Femme, Boys Next Door (feat. Nick Cave), the Angels and Cold Chisel at Festival Hall in Melbourne in 1980. Cost only 8 bucks for a 7 hour show. Them were the days!

    • @iankearns774

@@aussierhino471 I just did the math and thats the equivalent to $41au today. No chance of seeing four or five quality bands on the same bill for $41 today. Due to no record sales the bands and managers found other ways to generate income, sure you can download music free but it hasn't got the same smell as a freshly bought 45 or the enjoyment of seeing bands live for a pittance.
They would want $250 to see five bands live now. I think us Gen Xers were the winners here.

Iva Davies was a wind player in a symphony orchestra. He quit to form Icehouse. He said 1 of his influences is the late David Bowie. You can hear that in his voice. The Beatles is another influence.
Written by Iva Davies and John Oates. The original track 👣 had Linn drums and a few fills. "The 2 finished writing ✍ the song in 2 hours. John Oates said that if Icehouse would not record it, Hall and Oates will because that will be a hit. John Oates was right ✅ " -- Iva Davies.
"While Iva Davies went wind surfing 🏄‍♂️, I was at a beach ⛱. In Australia 🇦🇺, beaches are topless. This 1 woman 👩 walked near me. I focused on her eyes 👀 to not be distracted. They were electric blue. That was a great 👍 idea 💡. So, we wrote about the eyes of that woman." -- John Oates.
In the recording, Oates sings backing vocal with Iva Davies.
3 years earlier, Daryl Hall came to Australia 🇦🇺 and sang backing vocals to Original Sin for the band INXS. 40 years 🎂 in 2024.

My favourite Aussie band during the 80's, followed very closely by Cold Chisel. Seriosly underrated even in Australia. A shed load of first rate music including Street Cafe, Love in Motion, No Promises, Paradise, Don't Believe Anymore, Dusty Pages, Taking the Town, Hey Little Girl, We Can Get Together, Sister, Walls, Can't Help Myself, My Obsession, Crazy, Angel Street. So many great songs that are sadly overlooked. In my opinion, before Paul Kelly got his rep as Australia's finest songwriter, Iva Davies was well on his way to owning that monicker.
