Bipolar 1 here. I also have comorbid panic disorder. They are worse than the bipolar, imo.
I went to the ER like 3 times for them one month. Doctors got mad at me and accused me of "drug seeking" and said I needed to stop coming in. I knew they were right that I needed to stop coming, but your rational mind goes out the window. You literally feel like you're dying and gasping your last breath.
Years ago I woulda laughed at someone saying they had panic attacks. I am not laughing now. They are utter hell and you feel helpless to stop them. They do NOT require stressors - they literally come out of nowhere.
In my late 20's they were every day all day for several months. They were so bad I thought about suicide. My psychiatrist put me on the max dose of Zoloft which might have helped knock them out. I have been on that dose for many years and haven't had an attack since.
The problem is that SSRIs are known to screw with bipolar moods. I think they have made my moods fluctuate more rapidly, but it's a trade-off I was willing to take.
I read a research paper that said 40% of bipolar people have a clinical anxiety condition, so it is a known issue with "us people."

Have you tried L-theanine?? It's an amino acid and it does the same thing as gabapentin.
I was on gabapentin in 2014 for 3 years and loved it for the same reason.
L-theanine has done the same thing for me. It also works on the same Voltage gated calcium channels as gabapentin.
Also, ice pack on the back of your neck. It triggers the vagus nerve and that calms you down.

I have a panic disorder and chronic PTSD. It is all very uncomfortable and debilitating.

Thank you for this video! I have tried the cold washcloth on my face but I haven't tried the "five things" method. I have been having a bunch of panic attacks lately and I will definitely try that next time.
