I rarely comment on RUclips videos, but I had to take a moment to commend you. The enthusiasm and effort apparent in all of your content is inspiring to highschoolers like myself. I thought about writing a book, but considered it a lofty goal. After watching your video, I actually think that goal is possible. Stanford is lucky to have you.
I have always wanted to write a book since freshman year about origami and I had a book of ideas for my book and a few first drafts, but I quit after reading my own writing. I've never had confidence in my writing, but after watching this video I'm going to try to write my book one more time! Thank you so much and your video is so inspirational! Good luck in Stanford and I hope you do well in your classes!

Is it more impressive if a book is published by a publisher rather than being self-published or does it not matter? Thank you for all of your helpful videos!!!
It’s more impressive if it’s published by a publisher, as it’s going to take significantly more work, but for a high schooler, I think either option is already impressive and can help make you stand out!
Woah, this was incredible!! You motivated me to start thinking about writing my own book lol. I had two (ig three) questions: 1. Did you use Canva for every single page of the book? Did you get the pro version? 2. I noticed you had a very impressive bio of yourself in the book. If I'm not as qualified as you were when you wrote your book, how should I "talk about myself" to intrigue readers? Thanks!!!
1. Yes! Yes I went pro on a trial 2. Hahahah there’s a certain skill to “talking yourself up”, and I think it’s just about capitalizing on any achievement or little accomplishments that you’ve had, and putting it in a confident way. Good luck!!

Hello Iris, Out of all of the college RUclipsrs I have watched, you, by far, have been the most helpful I have ever seen. Not only do you explain your stats and extracurriculars, but you also make videos explaining how you did what you did. No other RUclipsr I have watched has done that. I have a question to ask. Since I believe starting an organization may not be the best fit for me, should I try to write more than one book as a way to stand out in my application? I am already trying to create an independent research project as one of my "passion projects", so would having multiple books help give me an edge or should I try something else?
Hi, I'm glad you're finding this channel helpful! I believe in quality > quantity in this case, so try to get awards/press/media/distribution on one book rather than having none with multiple books. There're also other passion projects -- perhaps ones I haven't even thought of or done (e.g. developing an app, etc.) -- that you can try. Good luck!
Incredible video, probably high praise but in my opinion your videos are probably the best for high school students wanting to stand out in the college process. Nowadays there are so many ways the college admission process is biased and unfair. Normally students that are underprivileged and who can't afford to have a tutor or a high-end college counselor often costing upwards of 5K. I float in the same boat, and often not able to have a lot of advice or opportunities due to the availability and cost. I think you are bridging the gap, and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. And also I wanted to ask, I have published several research papers, but they weren't recognized for some prestigious award, or featured in some popular science journal magazine. I just put them out there in a local youth outreach magazine. When applying to college, especially at top tier colleges are their tiers of prestige? Like if you got your work published is that deemed with some sort of merit, or do you have to submit to competitions, and recognized for major awards? I was wondering if you had to deal with a similar issue when you wrote your book, distribution, and the audience is extremely significant, not just the fact that one wrote a journal paper, or book, or string of code in an application. Again thank you so much, I cant wait to see more videos in the future.
Yeah, I think lack of resources is a huge problem in the college apps process. Yes, there are tiers of prestige-some journals or publications are more well known, well others aren’t. Take into account the size of the publication’s readership as well as the level of difficulty for getting your work published there

Sorry for all the questions but ty so much :)

Good question!!! I think about 50. However, I also made the e-version to my book free and available to all educators. From that, about 1000 students can access the book. Hope that helps
@@irisfu6929 Hey Iris! Congrats on selling 50 copies of your book! Also, how did you make your e-version free and available to all educators? I'm having trouble with that. Thank you!
But maybe a book is inherently copyrighted (meaning you don’t have to do any extra step to copyright), but I truly have no idea on this. If you find more info, pls let me know!
Hey Iris! I love your videos (they're so awesome and informative!) Quick question: Will colleges care if you write any book? Like if you write it and publish it but it has nothing to do with your major? Or will they still see this as an impressive addition to your 'resume?'
I think the motivation behind your book will be the most important! Connect your "why" with your values and what you hope to do in the future. After all, that will shine through in the essays and help you stand out

I used amazon KDP, and amazon is a very trusted company (many people input their credit card info on there)
Thank you! I just have a few more questions. 1.) If I didn’t publish the book could I still write it in my common app in the activities section? If so how would i describe it? 2.) Will college admissions officers search up your book if you list it in your application? 3.) Should I elaborate about what the book is about in the additional info section of the common app? Sorry for all the questions but ty so much :)
hey did it cost u anything to publish ur book?
how do you get the book into a pdf format?
Hi Iris,
Did you just download your design from Canva and then directly submit it into Amazon KDP?
Also, does my KDP account have to be verified? After I made it, everything seemed set.
Yes thats what I did! I don't think it needs to be verified
Hey thank you this is really great advice and honestly you helped encourage me write and publish my book!
I just have a question about Amazon KDP and it says I have to be 18 or older(which I'm not) and I need to give tax information. Did it ask you the same thing?
hmm I just used my ssn which can substitute for the tax info. i think there's an option to choose "ssn"
I have a question: how many people bought your book?
Good question!!! I think about 50. However, I also made the e-version to my book free and available to all educators. From that, about 1000 students can access the book. Hope that helps
Iris Fu wow that’s so impressive!! And yes it does, thank you :)
@@irisfu6929 Hey Iris! Congrats on selling 50 copies of your book! Also, how did you make your e-version free and available to all educators? I'm having trouble with that. Thank you!
Hey Iris was the book that you wrote your passion project?
Yeah, it was one of two of my “passion projects”!
@@irisfu6929 What was the other?
Jiali Zheng video pal program / org
Hi hi, how old were you when you wrote your book?
Hi Iris! How do I copyright my book?
I’m not sure actually. I didn’t copyright mine. I’d google to see how you can do this!
But maybe a book is inherently copyrighted (meaning you don’t have to do any extra step to copyright), but I truly have no idea on this. If you find more info, pls let me know!
Where can we get a free ebook copy of your book? I'd love to read it but im broke haha
After all, that will shine through in the essays and help you stand out
lolllllllll the end sounded like an add for amazon
just finished the video....
Lmaoo it’s not sponsored! Good luckkk
