I have always used my calendar as a task manager. It's just so much easier for me to look in one spot and see everything that needs to be done in a day, whether it's getting together with friends, a dentist appointment, or doing laundry. Having said that, I was also very confused about whether something was a task or a reminder and I would use both, so I was glad when Google finally picked one for me 😁
Google calendar needs to stop plotting everyone's birthday from my contacts in the calendar. I know there's a way to completely turn that feature off, but I don't want to completely turn the feature off. I want to see some people's birthday on the calendar, just not everyone's. There should be a box to check in each individual contact to indicate if you want it displayed or not. Because that obvious option isn't available, this problem has forced me to put birthdates in the "Notes" section in the contact for the individuals I don't want to see plotted in my calendar, instead of in the "birthday" section within the contact.
Really great video! Very well explained and nice and slow too! So many youtubers in this field are way too fast and complicated with explaining these types of things. I like the way people of ur generation explain things nice and concise.. I feel like people my age tend to speak at 10x speed and use all these fancy new tech words that mean nothing if you dont know EVERYTHING about it all already. haha. Appreciate this video, helped a lot.
I have also used my calender for recording tasks for a long time now so this is a welcome change (and improvement as far as I'm concerned). Much more efficient to have it all in one place.
I'm a long time Gmail account holder and always learn something new from your videos, thank you. I suspect you didn't mention the Google One or Google Workspace for Individuals that offer different features for different subscription rates so as not to confuse those just hearing about the various Google account types. I find their account types and personal account add-on subscriptions convoluted and wish there were simpler packaging available for us non-business types. BTW: The latest desktop Calendar update allows me to toggle between calendar and tasks views without opening the sidebar. With a full Tasks view so readily available I no longer list tasks in my calendar.
Thanks for the video. I have experimented with tasks and reminders in the past. I see that a few reminders that I had are now tasks. When I opened one I got a dialog that explains the "new home" for reminders. Any tips on the "family" calendar. Before that arrived my wife and I had a shared calendar. I keep a separate one for myself so I can be selective about alerts.
When you said it was 20 years old, I went to my inbox and it seems I joined way back in August 2005. Yikes, am I getting old or what? Thanks for the info.
I have been trying to set up a new calendar for sunrise and sunset but I only see the one I created for the phase of the moon and day of the year. Was that feature removed? I remember being about to search for move calendars.

Big issue google keep notes with reminder doesnot display on calendar. They shown before. Google must put back this feature
I have Google Workspace Business Start Plan, and do not have access to the Schedule you are looking at? I don't have the option to set appointment schedule, just appointment events...what am I missing? By the way I love your videos, very easy to follow and I have learned so much!
I have 3 Google accounts and I don't see this on either of them. 1) is a free Gmail account 2) is a Google workspace account for my business 3) is a Larger Plan workspace for my volunteer organization. Just who is this scheduling service for? 🤔
Steve, thanks for your even balance and even tone when I'm ready to scream my head off. Please tell me if google has a SINGLE place where I can store everything (all google) I need for my project: documents, videos, calendar, tasks, lists, in one view? At the moment, my projects include a guest house, writing a manuscript, and moving through a river of dead-brother probate documents and I need one clean "room" where all the specifics of each project are held in one place. Is there such a world? How stupid am I? Google Drive is an ADHD night sweat.
Thanks for explaining. Layers of complexity to this. The path of least resistance for me right now is just clicking "more options" and filling in the title with all the pertinent information that I need for whatever I have coming up. Google won't sparse my title if I do it this way. Granted, this type of complexity is useful in a professional, full schedule type of person. I have lots of appointments, etc, but I'm not sure I can delve into this on this level. Like Keep, it keeps things about as simple as you can get. I just want to look at my calendar without having to drill down. I treat it essentially like a paper calendar. But obviously Google calendar notifications FTW.
So we''re splitting I to the paid web and the free web I predicted this in 1999 and had thought I was proven wrong. Not saying it's a bad thing, I think it's actually good.
You get so close to the mark. All I want to do is remember things I need to remember. Then I want them to pop up at a specific time on my Windows PC. Google's descriptions are worse than the most difficult maze in the world. No descriptions of stuff on Windows, no links, no structure, bla, bla, bla. So simple, but nothing. Sorry you didn't hit the button. I was hopeful. (I don't even get the Appointment Schedules that you describe, and then it doesn't give clues how to get different types of account).
Holy smokes this is GOLD! I never knew Google Calendar had so many features...

I am so on board with your frustration over Google's subscription options; it is so confusing!
Thanks for this!!!
Great video Steve. Have you/can you do one on the Apple Calendar?

What is RUclips in the My Calendar section when you were talking about Task?

Never used it. Never will use it.
I have a hard copy paper calendar hanging on my fridge. It works brilliantly.
Glad you got that off your chest
