Hows things .. just after buying a 2008 520d e60 .. thinking of removing egr valve through a map .. dpf has already been removed . Is this a good idea , timing chains just been done along with clutch &flywheel
I am totally confused. Your video title reads: "This **SCAN TOOL** Just Changed Everything !!" but I had to fast forward through your RECOMMENDED video to see that its garbage and you don't recommend it, then you have a link down here to buy it. I just joined, I'm looking for CLEAR guidance. This was just confusing.
@@ejengstrom Welcome to the membership and thank you for joining, I do not recommend this tool purely for myself because of the stuff I use and the other tools I have, But for your basic needs its a good tool if your looking for something basic to read and clear codes any deeper then that I would highly recommend something else.
I linked it as many people will not just listen to me based on what I say and still will want to look at it, As for me its no good but for others it may be just what they need. If you're part of the membership package please look through the videos and see what I use as a professional and then you will see why I don't recommend this for my needs, But I cant just not list it based on what I feel as others may see it differently.

@@ejengstrom Hi mate its not garbage I have had this a week,and its a great little tool. . All updates are free , aparts from coding and bi directional and guided functions on VW. . If you go into updates ,it will show all the additional updates .I have just purchased for £33 VW update , this then opened up more functions , Guided functions bi directional online coding an more , a ace little tool .Its biult in camera is great . And for extra cost you can add ...TPMS MODUAL, BATTERY TEST MODUAL, SCOPE FUNCTION , WORKING LIGHT PPRINTER AND ,MORE TO COME .ITS a ace little tool . John
Bi directional and Ecu coding is optional, you can get both for 49$ a year for 1 car manufacture, and thats a great deal.
The one your saying about the phone dongle, that available bi dir. and ecu code there i think is just only for 1 car.

Try to update your Think mini for Bi Dir. And Ecu codes, activation test.
this can do anything the dongle can do and ecu coding or active test is optional.

Great video! 2 years later and yes! they made some changes. One thing I noticed , IMMO, is in there working good. The cheaper Think scanner bluetooth cannot compare with this year offer,2023, Lifetime free updates. You do have to purchase your specific vehicle make for $50 per car. But thats fine if you charge it to the patron your serving. I am not promoting Amazon but if you apply for their credit card that you dont have to use you get $200 off, plus additional $60 coupon. after taxes and free shipping it down to $185.00
does it read transmission temp of 2011 volvo XC-60T6 as the temp of oil should be between 50-60 *C when you remove excess fluid through the levelling tube. thank you regards
Hey Dean! Very informative as always. May I please ask you a question? I am a home mechanic/restorer on a tight budget. I own these cars: 1996 Mk3 golf gti, 1989 535I E34, 1998 840ci E31, 2003 325ci E46, 2002 Astra sri turbo. Is there a budget scan tool that would work with all these cars, bearing in mind the E34 has the round connector not the standard OBD2? Cheers.

Iam looking to buy diagnostic, and i found that thinktool mini, but it says ''ThinkTool Mini scanner supports Bi-directional control, ECU coding, and other advanced, Bidirectional Control'' can u help me out on this, bcz i am kinda new and I want some hobi diagnostic for my cars, where i can do all. (sorry for bad eng I am from Croatia.)

Heya, i just bought a bmw e60 525xi from 2006 and when i got the car everything was perfect. Except the sunroof would get jammed and not close, this can be fixed by bending a little lip down a bit again. And my left mirror wont go back to the normal position. It wither goes all the way forward or all the way back. Do you know how to fix this?

Man your vids have helped me and I've been a bmw owner for 2 months now I got an 05 e46 sedan with 72k mileage and runs awesome. It came with 1 fob so I got a new 1 & initialized it and my rear windows don't work now and I've done all the normal tests fuses are good switches are good actuators are good I reset the battery I'm not sure if I reset it long enough to put the car to sleep maybe is there some kind of module that runs the rear windows & actually the trunk opens with key fob and the key but it doesn't open with the trunk button anymore either like it's locked also I was told there's a central locking module is that something it could be please help me. And I was told there are like codes on the dash cluster I can run maybe that'll unlock it or even sequences I can push with the key fob to unlock the windows completely lost on this subject I'm a new BMW owner I love e46s I always have and I don't know why my windows work fine and then I got a new key and now they don't work at all so I'm begging for your help. Actually watch the video of yours where you rolled the windows down by holding buttons with the key fob on the diamond key fob and roll them back up well on my car I can roll the windows down by holding the unlock button but if I hold the lock button like you did in your video on my car nothing happens so I have to just get in the car and put the key in the ignition and roll the windows up so that might be the new key to I'm not sure and I bought the key from a BMW dealership and it was sent to me in the mail with the directions to initialize it it was easy to initialize I think like I think you turn like on you a cycle the ignition like three or five times and then you hold a button and then let go of it and it unlocks and locks your car that was easy for me to do but now my back windows won't roll down or my trunk won't open well it'll open but it won't open my hand I have to either stick the key in it and unlock it or unlock it with the button on the key fob like keyless I just need your help bad I'm sorry I'm rambling I'm just a nervous wreck because I'm a new BMW owner and I really don't know much about them. Can I just stick a normal odb2 sensor reader would it run a code if the rear windows weren't operating correctly or I noticed on the video that I'm commenting on right now that the little computer thing that you're saying not to buy it actually had an option on it said window is that something that you could you reset windows like with that tool is that an option I mean I'm just spit ball and I'm sorry I'm ranting

They sell a wired obdii connector that looks like it connects to the little threaded hole at the bottom of the unit.
Bro full respect but, is there any substitute for a PC and an OBD cable, yeah I’ve been watching your reviews recently but yes there are some benefits like size; but let’s be honest these smaller units simply don’t have the power of a PC - I won’t go near Macs for this task. I understand why you’ve shown a variety of units, it’s no stress. Personal opinion obviously pushes viewers in differing directions ✌🏽🇦🇺

Dean have you tried the iCarsoft range of scanners , you get different levels from scanners covering 2 manufacturers all the way up to the pro, prices aren't bad either and there's no subscription. A friend of mine bought one for his 08 Volvo V70 D5 and it so far has been great. Might be worth a look.

The other thing I want is freeze frame on the BMW modules that support it. I have found that very useful for tracing intermittent faults.

This ^^^. You want bi-directional it is available but you need to pay for that SPECIFIC make software and update the unit.. I thought they were pretty clear on that. The bluetooth "cheaper" unit discussed is make specific as well. You buy it for one make of car. i.e. if you ONLY work on BMW then the make specific tool would do.

I don't understand why you highly recommend the TOPDON scan tool that looks very much like this THINKTOOL MINI and yet the TOPDON also is not bi-directional. Does TOPDON pay you to cut down the THINKTOOL scanner?
@@BMWDoctor But, I bought the THINKTOOL MINI and so far, it is doing what it advertises. I don't understand the end of your video where you say to not buy it. It does everything the TOPDON does and more. You really like the TOPDON, but you don't like the THINKTOOL, even though it can do more than the TOPDON. The price just came down on the THINKTOOL. It is only $399 USD here in the USA on Amazon. And you can buy the optional printer, something you can't do with the TOPDON. And if you want bi-directional, that is also an option, something you failed to point out in your video.

It is bi-directional if you buy the subscription. It is a $49 per year per manufacturer subscription. It is exactly the same as the topdon but add a subscription then it is better. Same price as topdon? What can topdon do this cant?

Seems to me that if you do not want a dongle and want something with a touch screen, you will have to pay more for that extra hardware.
work on all cars? that's a streatch. tested three 400-500 range scanners and they didn't work with 3 cars . no way scan tool can be tested on each car. big scam most of them.
You have to be careful in amazon, most scanners are fake, and you get no support nor updates from the manufacturer
