    Thank you for the tip about dipping the cuttings in ice water to subside the oozing of the white sap and the use of the rooting hormone.

      Weston Huey you are welcome, it really helps stop the flow of this dangerous sap! I do this with rubber tree cuttings too. Thanks for watching! 🌱😀🌵

    Thank you so much. I've had mine for at least 15 years or so but this year it got root rot and I am devastated . I will try this and hope it works.

    Thank you so much for the advice. I've had mine for years and because of over watering a couple of my main stems have gotten root rot. I also have a powder rooting hormone and didn't know if and when I could administer it. Thanks again ❤

    That was informative and interesting...I never thought of putting rooting hormone on before drying the cuttings. I must try that...

    .. I've had mine for few years now, first in my living room, then in my working room, where I simply forgot it and have only watered it every now and then, when I kinda remembered.. About every other month or so, I think.. Today I took it to the kitchen for a cleanup from dust and cat hair and water, and it looks perfectly fine.. Only it has grown too tall for the window (east side).. I grew up with pets and plants, and never had problems having them in the same room, nor when my son was a toddler.. The plant might be "poison" but only if you take a bite of it, and that has never happened either.. I always wear gloves, either rubber gloves that I can trow away after treating each plant, or my garden gloves, depending of the kind of work I do with my plants (as working in my garden too) because I'm multi allergic and the soil, the thorns from cactus and roses makes my skin itching..

    I'm so mad with myself. I bought two big plants from Ikea for $2 each in the same a pile but they were absolutely perfect. After about a month one section of one of the plants just fell over even though it looked perfectly fine. Regardless I just assumed it had rotted and died and threw it away. Arghh!! still plenty left and in the spring I'll take a cutting from another portion of the plant and fill the gap. when I first got them I thought they were ugly but now I'm in love with them and it makes my semi minimalist home look great.

    So my school has one of these,there is a lot of trash in the soil,it never really gets watered and it is in reach (you can literally sit next to it) so I want to rescue the poor plant,I was planning to only take cuttings but after learning that it's actually poisonous I am hoping I can take the whole thing home or at least take cuttings and then getting the plant out of reach/throwing it away (sadly). So this is super helpful,thank you for all the information!

      @@PleasantPrickles I was actualy able to take the whole thing home! I split it in 3 and all parts of it are alive and well!
      In my school it was either not watered at all or drowned so it lost a lot of leaves,they are currently regrowing (wich is taking forever but its coming along!)!
      Its defenetly interesing because i am not a succulent keeper so at the beginning i overwatered a lot,but over time i learned and its doing better than ever :]

    Hi.. my euphorbia trigona is growing straight and tall... how can it be growing into branches?

  • @chriscooleytube
    @chriscooleytube Год назад

    I have a massive 14 feet tall, 400 pound euphorbia and a few pieces broke off when I repotted it, they broke off at already callused joints and have woody bottoms already. do I need to cut the hard bottom off the clippings for it to re-callus & initiate new root growth or is it okay to just repot the clippings as they are? thanks!

    • @PleasantPrickles
      @PleasantPrickles  Год назад +1

      Wow! Sounds like an amazing plant! I’m not sure which way would be best, but I do know that cutting a plant stimulates growth, including root growth. If you do decide to remove the calloused part make sure you let the bottom of the cutting dry out for a few days to give the plant a chance to close its “wound”, so bacteria doesn’t enter it when you plant it. I also have a feeling that the cutting would also find a way to root if you don’t cut it. When they fall over in the desert out in nature they usually manage to survive. Good luck! 🌵🌵🌵🌵😀

      @@PleasantPrickles Thanks so much! so far 3 out of 6 pieces have dried & shriveled, 1 is 1/2 gone & the other 2 seem to be okay. I might dry to slice & re-callus the dying pieces before they are 100% gone. Thanks again!!

    When is the best time for euphorbia to do this?

  • @jerrypetrotto8989
    @jerrypetrotto8989 5 лет назад +3

    We have a beautiful Euphorbia Trigona that has grown over 7 feet in 7 years. We are in Buffalo, NY and bring ours indoors for the winter (which is when it grows). It getting too big for the house which is why I found your video.
    I am curious what growing zone you are in and if you leave your plant outdoors.

    • @PleasantPrickles
      @PleasantPrickles  5 лет назад

      Wow! That’s amazing! I’m in Maryland, 6b. I keep mine indoors October thru April. If you do cut it make sure to wear gloves and glasses as the sap is very dangerous. Good luck, it’d be nice if you could propagate more plants since it does so well for you! 🌱😀🌵

  • @billgrebe

    I'm considering propagating mine because it's too tall. What would I do the cutting site on the lower part of the cactus? Or would that just heal on its own?

    When do you water the rootless cuttings?

    • @PleasantPrickles
      @PleasantPrickles  2 года назад

      I would definitely wait a couple of weeks or so until you feel the ends have calloused over in the dry dirt. watering too soon could make them rot. also, keep it in the shade while it roots in. good luck! 🌱🌱🌵🌵

    Do I need cactus rooting hormone or any kind of rooting hormone?

    • @PleasantPrickles
      @PleasantPrickles  3 года назад +1

      It might make it root faster to use a rooting hormone, but most cuttings will root without it. I use it if I have it when I propagate. Good luck! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱😃

    Don't you think the pot is a bit crowded, the more you repot in that pot the harder it is to do later when it has soooo many cutting it will be very hard to take care of... 3-29-20

    Hi there, I have a euphorbia cow horn plant, that I need to trim due to it becoming top heavy, after you cut the branch off, where do you store it before replanting, in the shade to prevent drying out, or in the sun?

    • @PleasantPrickles

    Heyy Pleasant Prickles I absolutely lovee your uephorbias if I'm spelling it right especially the trigona variety. 😊if they are available and this is completely up to u I'm asking if you can ship a cutting so I can propagate back home. I'm trying to get my cactus and succulents collection to grow big and get up and running.. I'm absolutely in love with your plants and how u treat them and ive been trying to get a hold of these but everywhere I go like local garden centers and shops they have noo euphorbia trigonas. But if u r willing I would appreciate a cutting. Blessings to you your plants and your home.. I live in massachusetts and it would be best if u give me your email, thanks..
