At first listen it sounds like an anti-religion song, but it’s not. This is what Winston said about it. “Lyrically this song deals with the concept of power and control that is the basis for modern society. We live in a time when the lives of the many are lived at the will of the few. We have let the balance of power slip so far that a godlike will is able to be imposed upon the masses with little to now way of breaking the cycle. Bleak, right?”

That's what a lot of parkway drives songs are. They have a deep meaning of control and power and our lack to fight that control so yes I completely agree. To bait people by saying all atheists are angry is just a dumb move
Whilst I appreciate the positivity that you have on this channel, I think you’ve missed the point about this song.
It’s about going against the people in power who have abused that power e.g governments who take money from people and don’t try to help those in poverty.
When he says be proud to live in the US when they’re an Australian band lol. As a man that’s agnostic but grew up catholic, I don’t believe in a higher power, everything that happens to me and what my actions are just being a human being. Of course I don’t mean this to be disrespectful or anything but I think it’s arrogant to assume that people without religion are always ticked off and negative. I’ve been through depression, abuse, and bullying and I’ve thought about committing suicide in my past, this isn’t me asking for a pity party but I mention it to say this. As being just human and not believing in a god, the person I am today is me having to learn everything myself and having to give myself hope and a purpose without a god or the Bible, a lot of people are like me that through all our experiences, we’ve become genuine good people because we are just being human. I’ve never needed a bible to say what I am or what I need to be, I’m just being human. Sorry for the rant haha, love your reactions♥️🤘🏻would love to see you react to my band someday

It's an unfortunate trend that I've noticed with religious people where any mention of a deity or higher power in a song's lyrics goes unrecognized as allegory and instead is (often wrongly) interpreted as being strictly religious in nature. This song is clearly using "God" as a vehicle to discuss the elites of the world who hold us all in their palm and are squeezing the life out of the people, thus "all our lives in the hands of tyrants" and "crushed by the fist of God". A common method of delivering political messages is to couch them in religious imagery.
edit: oh oof, the "if you don't like this country get out/go somewhere else" is really such a shit message. I know people who use that line like to think of themselves as patriots, but nothing is less patriotic than responding to criticisms of your country by plugging your ears and ignoring them until they shut up and go away. Citizens have an imperative to move their country in the direction they see fit, when a significant portion of the population finds the system doesn't work well for them the response is not to tell those people to leave the country they were probably born in if they don't like it. Protesting is the bedrock the USA was built on and the ability to do so is the very highest right and obligation the Constitution sets out, you are unequivocally un-American if you do not support this. YT comments aren't really the place for political discourse but I typed all this out before I realized so I'll post it anyway.

It was just such a terrible take on top of already judging the song for other reasons. (Also I dont live in the US just FYI.)

Missed the meaning of the song. Also I'm happy you can look at the positive in life and love your life here in America. But for some people that's not reality. You say only look towards the future and don't live in the past. But what if your past is so horrific and so sad that it haunts you every day of your life. Your past helped mold the person you are today and sometimes that person is hurt or troubled too much to move forward.

I agree with a lot of your opinions and view points, and I appreciate that you are as open with them. I don't agree with the view that he " hates God ". I think he hates the idea of men playing God. Our " leaders " have taken such a strong hold on the public that they control our views, our opinions, and beliefs. We are told what to believe, what to think and how to act and most people don't even realize it. I think he is more aware than the general public, and he knows that most people are just living their life under the will of their masters. I think you missed the point of this song, it’s not talking about a god per say, it’s talking about how the rich and powerful control everything and basically have the power of god to keep everyone else oppressed

Just as I have been open to your viewpoints even though I don't agree, I would expect the same from you and honestly I have seen that for a long time. Your comments on this video went a little over the line and that is from someone that has been legitimately watching you and listening as a differing viewpoint for a long while. We don't agree but we're together, there's no need to label and to stereotype. All on the perspective of the individual. To a lot, America is the greatest country in the world. When it pertains to freedom, there isn’t many countries close. Sure, there might be nicer places to live. None of it actually equals happiness. There are people in African tribes who literally have nothing and are happy. Just makes you think about people that have a shit ton of blessings in their lives and are still miserable AF. I don’t know if I would go as far as saying Christians are happy and non are not. It all depends on where you find happiness. Love of family takes that religious place for a lot of people. I also know a lot of fellow Christians that aren’t ever happy. People just being people.
It's only in a place like the US where this pandemic happens so bad and the citizens get screwed over. My house was taken while I was fighting for my life due to covid because I couldn't pay it. Yeah I agree, I love the states but I also hate it so much at the same time.

I'm pretty sure winston is an atheist. In their song wishing wells he called out both god ("I spoke a vow today and asked if god would come and play. I've dug a shallow hole for him to sleep.") and satan ("And if the devil's listening, I'll come for him as well.")
This one is a good song to go against the Great Reset from the elites. This is a banger song for sure.

I watched a video the other day about why people complain about everything, basically it's people that have never had to deal with any hard times or injustice in their life, now they think having their feelings hurt is the biggest injustice that could happen to them. Basically they complain about how everyone else is privileged, but imagine being so privileged and having so few worries in your life your biggest concern is someone not agreeing with you?
And I think that's why a lot of people like you Gibby, you can see those people are trying to find the bad and you point it out. And you can disagree with someone and still rock with them, where those people disagree and try cancel them. Two very different mindsets and two very different ways at looking at life, the one way you will always find the good and be happy, the other, no matter how perfect the world is they will find something to complain about. Yes there is bad in the world, but it honestly shows how good things are if most peoples biggest concern is someone disagreeing with them.
I come from South Africa and seeing what people in first world countries complain about is a joke to us. I hope more people in first world countries around the world get an attitude like yours, they have things really good and still they try make it bad.
First of all, I'm not trying to hard or anything. I'm happy things are looking good for you.
But sometimes you seem to forget in your good position that there are people out there who are living on a minimum. They can't even move out of the country cause where should they get the money from? But it's a typical issue that wealthy people don't see the inequality anymore and how it wrecks the poor even though most of them go to work every day. But they just can't get a grip in the system their whole life. It's always a few lucky ones and many poor people. And that is also a bit what the song is about. The few elites playing with the poor like it's a sick chess game. They're crushed by the fists of God.

He's not religious (per say) but he's not an atheist, Winston just doesn't ascribe to an organized religion, he let's his open-mindedness speak his truth and does what he does because he believes it to be the right thing to do amongst humanity. At least that's what I gather from the interviews he's done throughout the years.

I think you're looking at it in the wrong perspective. He's not talking about "God", he's saying the control that some people have i.e. governments, people of power, ect. are our "God" by force.

Atheist and I get prolly more IRE than Winston. I’m a Christian and I’ve been through 3 combat tours in Iraq. I used to be angry and hateful towards God when he took someone from me . Until you get to understand that why have free will given to us by God. This song is more about politicians being so called Gods, when he says Crushed by the First of God. It’d about the political parties, governments, the Amazon and Google and the rich and powerful crushing us; Winston is a stated agnostic. Have you ever listened to any Christian Metal bands? August Burns Red, Fit For a King( they are heavier than Parkway and all Christians they have song “Pissed OFF that is wow! Fit For A King, War of Ages , Silent Planet, Impending Doom, Zao , Living Sacrifice and Demon Hunter these are all Christian bands that will blow your mind!

I'm gonna speak from a place only because I've watched likely hundreds of your videos and feel like I know you to some degree. I love your positive mindset and attitude because its a thing that everyone could benefit from and its contagious. But I think you should not so quickly dismiss some of the messages in these songs. Many times you mention you understand or have been through something their speaking too. If you have been through some tough shit and feel almost as God or some higher power is testing you to become a better person or deal with hardships to become something better; thats what these types of songs are about. Your positivity is fantastic and something a lot of us can learn from but its also very admirable to relate and sympathize with those who songs like this speak too. Preach it Gibby! The US is the greatest country and always has been. The USA is not perfect but we have acknowledged our past mistakes and have made strides to correct those grievances. Its called progress and we just keep moving forward. You also cant judge our past by the present, but you can compare the time periods to other nations in that same era and the US will always come out on top.
