    As someone who crochets, I can tell you not only does making the pieces take time, but you also have to buy the yarn. (which is not always cheap lol) But you're supporting someone's business, so its worth the price!

      Yeah especially this day and age, everyone is used to cheap, unethically-made clothing. Usually bought from large companies, too. So when there's something that is high-quality and handmade, from a small business, they think the products are grossly overpriced.

      No, half of these are sold on Walmart’s site. Sweatshop workers made those and she was lied to. People, please do your research! Let’s not support exploitation!

    • @anadinis7120
      @anadinis7120 2 года назад +16

      @@TheDearestOfThings Hi :) I totally agree with you about not supporting exploitation, but I cannot agree that the pieces in the video were made in sweatshops. I do believe you saw similar designs as these in walmart's website and it doesn't surprises me that pieces COPYING these are being made in sweatshops and sold on websites as walmart. Unfortunately this happens very often: small brands' designs are stolen by fast fashion companies and unethically produced (by underpaid workers and with low quality yarns) and then sold at ridiculously low prices. I saw that happen before with brands as stradivarius, zara, pull&Bear, shein (this one takes it a step further and copies entire crochet collections), just to name afew. This is a problem in itself but also for small crochet businesses owners who see their work devalued due to how fast fashion brands present crochet to the public.
      Now... as I mentioned I'm a crocheter and I can assure you the quality I saw on those items in the video tells me they WERE NOT made in a sweatshop. The yarn seems good quality and the stitches are perfect and very well structured, this is due to the hook size being apropriate to the density of the yarn used (often in sweatshops they'll use a bigger hook so that the stitches are more loose and less stiches form the same amount of "fabric" taking less time to produce an item).
      I get where your comment is coming from and it applies, but not regarding the crochet pieces Mia bought.

      @@ari-in8ny and anyone can dropship crochet. I still recommend buying from those who have shown they can crochet and not just claim to have made it. As a knitter and crocheter I really appreciate how you called out the time invested in a handmade piece. People assume that it will be cheaper when it is handmade but the opposite is often true. Makers carefully select the supplies and spend hours and hours making each piece. A handmade piece will last much longer than something purchased at a box store. Thanks for the love Mia!!!

      Making stuff is so much more expensive than just buying it from a store even if you make it yourself and aren’t paying for the time. Just the things you need to make it alone is super expensive. I love sewing but I never do it because it costs too much. I made a skirt a few years ago and it’s not very good but it cost me like $30 in fabric and I could of bought a much nicer one from the store for the same price. In the past it used to be cheaper to make your own clothes but now because most clothes in stores are mass produced for cheap, it’s more expensive to make it yourself. Making it yourself is only really worth it if you’re wanting something you can’t find in stores.

    • @lilydeml9843

      @@mer8581 Start with something simple, like a scarf. You can get a basic stich (like double crochet) down and get lots of practice! Everyone makes mistakes when they start so a simpler project will hide those mistakes a little more. You could also do something like a granny square sweater, since its just a bunch of squares. I love this concept! I’ve been crocheting and knitting for seven years!! Just a little info- not every piece of knitwear or crochet has such visible holes! I crochet stuffed animals and you can’t even see though to the stuffing. It depends on what kind of stitch, yarn, and hook the artist chose. ☺️

    I just want to say how much I appreciate you! I'm a crochet instructor/designer and I was browsing RUclips and came across this video. I saw your title where it said "honest review", and for some reason I thought it was going to be a bad review so I was like, OH NO! 😂 So I started watching and first of all, you're adorable. And second, I can't thank you enough for understanding and appreciating how much work goes into crochet! Crochet pieces can be pricey and that's exactly why. Crochet can't be machine made. Each piece is made by a person with their own hands and of course, lots of love! Plus their precious time! If I were to guess, I would think that each outfit you purchased took AT LEAST a month to make. So again, I really really appreciate you and using your voice to spread the beauty of crochet and for supporting small handmade businesses. ❤️

    As a crocheter I really appreciate this and you pointing out how much time it takes. I sell some pieces I make and always get called out on the price but the time it takes and the cost of yarn is not cheap!! I would love to make everything affordable and tbh most of the time just cover the cost of yarn and not how much time it took me... but I get demotivated all the time about selling my crotchet pieces as people think I'm over charging :( when I think the most I've paid myself is $1 per hour and then just how much it cost for yarn hahaha
    but thank you thank you thank you for pointing out these factors and supporting small crochet businesses 😍🙏

    As someone who has been crocheting for 18y I love that your doing a video on crocheted pieces and that you specifically pointed out how much time it takes which is why it's expensive as it is because the amount of times people have tried to tell me that I'm charging too much when something like a blanket takes 200 hours and $50 worth of yarn to make We can't sell it for 20 bucks and so many people don't understand that and expect dirt cheap prices they are handmade items they take time and skill and I really appreciate that you pointed that out

    Growing up my parents owned a yarn shop and my mother could knit or crochet absolutely anything! All through high school in the ‘70’s I remember wearing several skirts made of the crocheted quilt squares along with dozens of the traditional vest that tied together in the front. I didn’t appreciate the time and effort that it took to make them until I got older.
