    Hurrah Shane, Fury has a shed load of stowage, now you have no choice but to teach us how to master the art of stowage😊😂🤣

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  5 лет назад

      hahah there is so much work I've yet to do to FURY before I can even think about Stowage, bur I have a Sherman Jumbo video in the works currently, and that will have stowage too so it most likely be that which will get a video first

    Shane theres one used by a company called Viking Splash Tours in Dublin. I was on it with my other half and neither her nor I can swim as the water does come up quite high when you go into the "drink". Who would have thought the Liffey could look as deep as it did when we steamed past U2s old studio lol. Pity no one has thought of it for takng tourists up and down the Lagan here in Belfast.

    • @longlance67

      I was on the same tour many years ago, it was a bit unnerving just how low they sit in the water lol

      Shane Smyth - scale models I only realised that you had probably been on the same trip when I watched your full video and you mentioned Dublin. Sometimes I need to calm down and watch full videos before posting messages! Great channel Shane.

    DUK’s are awesome. They use them as tour vehicles here in the states. I’ve been fortunate to ride in a few of them. Can’t wait to see the build.

      When my kids were little, we took them to Philadelphia and rode on the DUKW`s at Penn`s Landing. They had WWII DUKW`s and newer amphibians...made sure we got on the real deal...lol.

    very good review. Thanks for showing it.Some of these vehicles are still in use today here in the states. I know of 2 different cities that use them for tour rides. They are used in Washington D.C. & in Chattanooga TN.

    Funny you showing this kit right now, Shane. I was looking at the Monogram Weasel I built a few years ago, and was wondering if anyone made the DUKW. Guess I know who makes it now! Too bad it is OOP.
    Great review and looking forward to seeing this one built.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад

      Its a shame that it is OOP as it is a great kit, people maybe were just not buying them in great numbers to keep in production in the end perhaps.
      I would love to see a company take on a new mold offering of this kit and a few new Amtracks would be nice too

  • @HamilkarBarkasScaleModelling

    Such a cool subject! Italeri kits were always good when wheels were involved, but no tracks. Its a useful rule of thumb. As you said such vehicles do not share their fair bit of fame with the bombers and tanks, which is unfortunate but people like you remedy that :)

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад

      haha least Italeri gets something right lol
      Ya it is a very under represented vehicle in history but it also such a cool looking vehicle too

    Nice review on the DUKW. Looks like a decent kit. I see your Fury Sherman M4A2 is coming along nicely. Your correct about the casting numbers for various Shrrman Transmissions covers being hard to find. Even some of the better Sherman research books dont have good clear pictures of the numbers. Looking forward to both these builds!👍

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад

      thanks mate, It was a bit of challenge to find info just to get an idea what the numbering may have looked like, and though I am sure its probably not prefect it is good enough for me, and was fiddly but rewarding experience trying to recreate them :)

    • @13bravo72
      @13bravo72 6 лет назад +1

      Shane Smyth - scale models What did you use to make the numbers with? Did you use resin or the photo etch brass number kits? Looks like you did a very nice job though. I've used the Archer fine transfers resin decals number kits. And even though it's not gonna be seen, always remember the devil is in the details.😈😉

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад +1

      I used the numbers and cast marking that come molded onto the sprues on Italeri Shermans they a bit rough but work in a pinch. I really want to try the Archer resin ones though! they look very cool

    Crazy how they built this and hated it so sat in storage for along time before someo decided to put it to the test and it shocked all the Marine core! Eisenhower was shocked by this they must have felt daft putting it in storage for so long thinking it was a sitting duck in combat! Shame! I want to build a Ducw next hard to find them so great review! Not alot reviews on RUclips!

      funny how it turned out to be one of the most important vehicles of the war for the Allies! It took me a long time to track down this kit online too, I landed up picking it up on ebay some time ago after a long search. I hope to get round to building this kit in the new future so keep an eye out

    Very good review, Shane. If I may, i’d like to let you know about some detail sets for this kit. The first is from a Canadian company called Thatchweave. They make awesome bumpers for the DUKW. Eduard and Verlinden did update sets for this kit, too I believe Resicast made update sets as well, including steerable front wheels, inflation systems for the road wheels and a road wheel set.

    • @longlance67

    Great review Shane. Thanks? now you got me looking for one. There's a guy here in Dayton. He drives it around town in the morning he has a two-door entrance on the back but he can't take it in the water says it'll sink ;-) lol. I've never wanted to build FURY I liked the movie all the way up to the Tiger fight and got ill at the last battle. I know at least 8 guys who could make a better movie. Anyway looking forward to your builds. One point you do know that at the range the two Sherman's Lucy Sue 76mm and fury 76mm were at they would have opened up that tiger like a can of tuna. And that tiger would not have bounced a around off the side of that Sherman especially at that range. Just say-n.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад +1

      haha its a sad day when a duck can't take to water :P haha
      I quite like Fury and enjoy it for what it is, it has a lot of flaws in its story telling and cinematic execution which I will get into here; brace yourself :P
      Firstly your exactly right during the Tiger scene both Fury and Lucy Sue with their 76's would have eaten that Tiger without needing to the do the charge, however lets just say for argument that they were farther out than the distance the engagement began, the charge would have made sense. And the distance they did finally close with the Tiger in the scene even 75mm guns would have become effective at under 300m meters (also why didn't one of the Shermans just keep slamming the Tiger with smoke to cover the charge? who knows?)
      As for the Sherman taking bouncing the 88mm shot, I think this goes down to using poor angles in cinematography, as the round skims FURY rather than connects proper with the armor, you see this after they hit the mine later in the movie that there is slight graze in the side armor. But the way it is filmed makes it look like Fury took the hit. Perhaps it they filmed that sequence from the perspective of the Tiger gunner it would have been easier to see it was a near miss rather than a bounce.
      The last battle could have been done a lot better, if they firstly had just used the town they were fighting in as the point they were defending rather than an exposed crossroads I think it would have worked better, and kept the Infantry they send most of the movie with them in the battle too. Also more effort should have been spent explaining that SS is down to raw under-trained recruits or just depicted the Volkssturm which wpuld have gone some ways to explain the actions of the attacking Battalion in the movie.
      Though there is some loose historical context for the final battle, where a wounded Army Sergeant mounted a knocked out M10 and halted a company sized assault with its .50cal (check out Audie Murphy for that great story :))
      I think if they had the final battle in or around the town with the platoon of Infantry and Shermans getting slowly destroyed and killed one by one perhaps by the Tiger that is always exclusive and threatening and then have Fury and remaining soldiers facing off the Tiger in a cat and mouse game would have made for more compelling and enjoyable viewing.
      haha you can tell I've given this movie some thought hahaha :P love to know what you think mate :)

      Shane Smyth - scale models
      True that would have made way more sense then how that ended. I'm just an old person but I know a little tactics. And any man would have taken two panzerfaust and that none since would have been over no infantry support. Audie Murphy story was amazing anybody who builds models has read that story. But he had infantry and artillery support. I know he told his squad to pull pack but in reality the enemy wouldn't have not gone too much farther. By that time of the war the Germans were spent. Anyway enjoyed the review and the discussion it's fun to her other people's views on WWII subjects it's refreshing.

    • @longlance67
      @longlance67  6 лет назад +1

      that is very true mate, and it is very refreshing that we can on this channel have conversations about history and enjoy the conversation without it devolving as it does so quickly elsewhere,
      that is a good point about the Panzerfausts, and it is a very poorly thought out scene as there is no way in hell that they could miss something as big as a Sherman at 20 yards! I've seen plenty of bad shots at the range in my time in the Reserve myself included, but an't nobody missing at that range haha !

    not the only DUKW in 1/35, in 2004 Airfix also did the model in 1/35......Italeri released the DUKW in 2002,2006,2008 and 2014.from 2006 onward it was released with new parts...the Airfix kit is a far better model.
