This is the best demo I've seen looking for another synthesizer this is my dream analogue can't wait to get one loved your demo thank you so much I almost bought the Yamaha modx but this is what I really need
im trading my nord a1 with this today ! i love how this one sounds really, more classic and electronic and experimental sounding and emotional for some reason. bbye nord thanks for the great journey we had.
I’ve been watching many, many videos of the Prologue and Prophet Rev2 and wasn’t quite convinced on the sound of the Prophet. You have now convinced me it has amazing and powerful sound.
prologue is powerful but its niche in sound. it sounds a bit thinner. but it's because of the chipset korg decided to use. Which is fine. Within a mix you woulddt be able to tell . the prophet is just it. It's a prophet you know it's a prophet. you can feel it
I had the p8 and sold it after getting the p6 and ob6. Wanted this but had to pick between it and the p12. For my setup and for what I already have, the p12 was the logical choice, but this video gives me G.A.S. :)
Mike Hydropneumatic The Sub37 is a paraphonic synth. It's for heavy bass lines and searing leads. Rev2 is more for it's pads and melodies even though it can play bass and leads too the Sub37 excels in it's specialised field. A Moog Sub37 and a DS Prophet Rev2 compliment each other nicely. That's why I want a Rev2 to compliment my Sub37
Hey, we chatted on BoBeats today. Yes agree a Sub37 and REV2 compliment eachother nicely. The Sub 37 can also do crazy sound FX with white noise and such...add a phaser!
Thank you for this demo. I feel like every other one I saw in the past had really boring/generic patches, but you really showed what this synth can do. I'm surprised how well it pulls off the Jupiter-esque stuff, but still has it's own thing going on. Seems like a great alternative to the more expensive Prophet 6.
Hannah Who? Damn! Your dad spent 1500 dollars on you for Christmas!! I was lucky if I got a video game for Christmas when I was a kid. You are one lucky individual.
Georgie porgie I know!! I feel like the luckiest person in the world. The thing is, he took the money to buy it from my college tuition savings hahaha.
Ian Wilson They’re wildly different synths, one being a poly and the other one a mono/duo just for starters. I own a subsequent 37 and may get this to compliment my moog.
I get that they are completely different but I don't get paid to make music, so my emphasis is on getting the most versatile synth for my money, rather than something that complements another synth. Both are clearly top notch at what they do, but soundwise I just prefer the Rev2. I am a composer and sound designer more than a musician, so some of the things that are important to musicians don't phase me - like they keybed feel, whether it fills a gap in my arsenal, does it have live feel and durability ... Etc. My criteria are, does it have immediate access (knobs vs menus), can I afford it, does it sound bloody amazing and can I get $h!tload of good ballzy sounds from it. 😀
that`s a bit weird, a bit like saying I wanted Ice cream but I bought Bacon instead. The Sub 37 is a fantastic mono and this is a fantastic poly, most of us would like both but ............. if you simply need a Jack of all trades then you would defo never want a mono synth
9:38 The best thing l've heard about this synth, thanks. Do you think a Novation Peak coud reach such a smooth and warm sound? I can't decide between the two and this kind of sound is what I'm looking for.
This thing is an all-in-one scoring tool for composer like myself, beats a mouse and screen any day, and the sound is pretty good too, think this compressed RUclips render doesn't do it justice....great going love it !
@@davidsahay1021 On the Rev2 it is: F3 P11. LFO2 is affecting the cutoff - LFO3 is affecting the freq of LFO 2 and LFO4 is affecting the amount of LFO 2. LFO1 is effecting the shape of the pulse wave for osc1 - osc2 is a triangle.
Is this the 8 or 16 voice keyboard? Also, this demo was extremely cool, the sound at 6:29 is about one of the coolest sounds I have heard in awhile. For that sound was it 8 or 16 voice, difference in price, so very curious on that one? And one more item, does this awesome keyboard work with Presonus Studio one professional. I know that Daw CAN add keyboards, but anyone with experience with those two items and knows that they work well together, please share. Thanks for posting this demo, VERY NICE!
The filter sounds a little polite, but I actually think perhaps the Rev2 is a better all rounder than the OB6. Has so many good features, no state-variable filter for THAT sound, but this after all a different synth and it sounds beautiful
I own the Rev2 8voices. I can't figure out how to use the 8 voices, and i'm stuck with 4. Disabling the layer B doesn't seem to "free" 4 more voices. The only solution I found is to split the keyboard and have the same setting on layer A and layer B. Anyone can help ? It would be much appreciated.
@ 11.33: Cool John Carpenter style movie music, is that some sort of sequence, or is that some sort of 'poly-arpeggio-pattern' like on the SuperNova 2?...sounds very good, i love this kind of music, mysterious, exiting, suspense, what most thriller/horror movies of today lack.
Present 🙋👍A keyboard with Actual "Voice". Each key is a word. Having a keyboard for verbs, adjectives etc. 12 keyboards could get you through any conversation 😎
Excellent. I've been waiting for some videos like this. Thank you. DSI said they were using the same nice Fatar keybed that they use the in the Prophet 6 and OB6 except in a 5 octave config. Accurate? Does it have that tight quality feel?
I'm really impressed with your playing and with this beautiful machine. Are these custom presets? Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. You have convinced me to buy one!
I have a problem : I do hesitate for months between the rev2 and the OB-6. For some reason (related to the idea of a minimal workflow) I would not like to get them both. This kind of demo could help me to make a choice. For having played on an OB-6 in a music shop, I love it so much, however the OB-6 connects me too much to melancholia, the rev2 also haha, but a bit less, it's more modern yes, with maybe a kind of "light at the end of the tunnel", and hope in it, if I may say. These DSI synths are litterally made to die on the keyboard from a
Good lord, that first patch was straight up Jupiter 8!!! This thing rules!!! Holy goddamn!!! So many incredible and unique patches! Puttin' my P6 to shame!
It really is a great synth, I honestly could not believe it when I tried one (I now OWN one) how much better it was for me than P6/OB-6, not just cos of the better spec and 5 octaves (or price) but they do factor in. P6 can sound great obviously but to me it has a distinct hard tone that can get pretty harsh without a 2pole filter option (on pads say) so you reduce the filter but then it just sounds muted, and not exactly vintage sounding either. I'm not knocking it I'm just trying to put REV2 in context as it's easy to assume REV2 is the poor relation being so cheap with so many more features and a bigger keyboard, but it's a great instrument and sounds gorgeous, it sounds absolutely "prophet like" and can do oberheim, juno, jx, jupiter (not moog) too... that's one hell of a synth to own as a workhorse. Also it's beautifully built and looks great. Hands down the best synth at ANY price that DSI have made. Havin both a 4pole and 2pole expands its capability massively, use the 2 pole for soft, lively pads like a oberheim and dial in some audio mod + some resonance (which is more like adding 'air' in 2 db mode than real harsh resonance) and you have a gorgeous sound, and to 99% of people, and in songs, it would absolutely nail that tone. I dont a/b raw synths anymore, life's too short, I want to make music and REV2 also mixes effortlessly, doesn't overpower anything but can really cut trough and has clarity and texture lacking from the P6 (which is better for rawer sounds perhaps but not as musical imho). I have VCO synths here from the 80s, I know VCO's benefits but I don't hear them on the Prophet 6, rev2 just sounds nicer to me. I only hope they do the same treatment with the Prophet 6 (refine it and give it 5 octaves) though frankly I'm more than happy now with REV2 to go with my Moog, they make a perfect pair. Prophet 6 wouldn't go so well with the Moog and doesn't excell in loads of areas like REV2 does. YMMV
Very nice demo!!! Actually making me want this instrument. So versatile, it'll perfectly replace my aging JX-8P in live situations, and deliver much more sounds :)
Ok, I have the brute it's a keeper, I have one slot left for a Polly synth, I have listened to a lot of rev 2 demos now and wish we could here more simple pads , string pads with strong low end....also it still sounds like the Mopho 4 has stronger bottom end and is also brighter or more cutting.....can't decide...just yet....

Totally agreed, playing the instrument as an instrument :) BTW Thanks @John Freidel :)
Agreed.
This great demo made the decision easier to get myself a Prophet REV2. Thank you.
Really incredible demo! I own the Rev 2, and I’m looking to dive deeper with it. It definitely has a ton of features. Thank you!
Install the prophet 08 factory presets are better than rev 2 presets, yes they are compatible :)
somes people as critical easy but never propose some demo as it !!! you John you honesty do and it's very nice to you ! Tks
