I kinda slacked on this one...hopefully no one can tell. 😇
this man legit did an entire 21 minute synth review in a star trek outfit. i would not be surprised if he edited and uploaded this in uniform as well
I freaking did, I legit did 😂😂😂😂😂
Glad he's not wearing a red shirt
and it wasn't even 1 minute
Got to love how those "one minute reviews" have turned into 21 minutes, but we all know one minute never was enough for synths. Keep them coming!
Hahahaha, yeah, this was super long for me, I can’t lie though, probably the 4th best video I’ve done, it’s the last OMSR though, RIP them
Such a criminally underrated channel. Theres so much great content in your videos. Excited to see whatever you come out with
Star Trek and analog synths. It's really my lucky day!
Told ya it would be 😉
Leonard Petit-Breuilh people don’t know this but the TNG Enterprise was almost entirely analog.

"ONE MINUTE SYNTH REVIEW!!!"
21 M I N U T E S
Hahaha, that’s how we roll 😎
Fans really want me to make a shirt of this, I’m thinking I’ll do it! Haha
Noir Et Blanc Vie Lol I would buy it.
Seriously, why is this called one minute review? Is this a reference to an earlier video? Cool review though.
dalons3 i’m sure it’s probably a joke where he said that it was a short review and then it took longer than he thought. IDKtho
I have a Rev 2 8 voice, best bit of kit ive ever bought!
Right! Such a killer price too.
Yessssss its solid gold
Contemplating one myself!
Just got my rev2 at the end of last year and it's absolutely perfect. What a beast of an analog polysynth, and for such an affordable price! DSI dominates, for sure. Fantastic video, perfectly produced and thorough. 21 minutes of greatness.
Wow, thank you Scott, it was long, very long. I hope I showed everything. Which did you get 8 or 16 Voices?
Got halfway through this and immediately checked my available credit card balance. 😂 😎
La Forge has always been my fav character, super competent and stoked on engineering and datas best friend.
Beautiful synth, beautiful review, love those outtakes at the end haha
Hahahahaha thank you!
Keyboardi LaForge
😅😅😅😂😅😂
Rev2 is a fantastic sounding synth. I love the pluck sounds you can get out of it.
Picking up one of these, with that fantastic keybed, for my birthday in a few weeks. Pumped. I have owned a MS20 for a few years (and trust me it is perhaps the best $500 I have ever spent in music) but I am looking forward to not have to retrack everything 5 times for pad chords. I was originally gonna go with the Prologue but after having a month to really battle them out (even in person once) I have to go with this beast. The workflow on this synth is stupid, especially since it's DSI. I played one the other day for like two hours, and besides going into the global to change tuning, I went into a menu like like 3 times for mod wheel and that was it. It's like a DAW synth in a box, but it still has got that analog character. Good shit.
How have you found the Rev2? I’m thinking of getting one…
@@rupertgillies447 He ended up returning it for a prologue. I kid, i kid.

Hahaha best comment in a long time Michael 🙏
I didn't know you did a video on the REV 2 a few years back. I've had my Prophet REV 2 16-voice keyboard for a little over a year now. It's a fantastic beast.
Excellent nicely done video. Now that I think about it, you do look and sound a lot like Jordi from Star Trek!
“Lt. Geordi LaForge Jr.”
Damn, it’s only 5 seconds into the video and I’m already hitting the Like button.
i love this channel so much
Wow, this means a lot. Any suggestions for me?
Had the Rev2 for a while - you're on point. This is still well worth watching purely for the quality and entertainment value. Great work on your videos man!
Best review I've seen in a long time.
Great work!
You channel is awesome. This review is amazing. You put so much love and playfulness into this video with the costume! I love all your videos, please don't ever stop. You convinced me to buy this instrument too!
Love your work, rewatching your videos is always a joy.
Thank Brian, I really appreciate that. I’ve been off for a couple weeks, but I’ll be back!
Nearly three years on this is still super dope.
I was waiting for "Let's take a look. It's in a book. Reading Rainbow."
Great video....
I added a Rev 2 and it fits well with my Matrix Brute and Moog Subsequent
Tasty full sound
My first thought was "he should have been Captain" and then it hit me. Jordi was an engineer so that makes sense.
Gonna admit the Prophet 6 is my dream synth.
Thanks for an insightful review. Yet another synth I can't afford to add to the wish list. I own a Pro-one which will have to do for now...even though it's a bit poorly and needs some attention. Loved the out-takes especially the light bulb moment - your face was a picture!
This is the money. That first segment felt like I was transported to the set of an original Twin Peaks episode.
Hahaha, it feels good to go all out for these vids, thank you!
Dude is total legend
LOL Nice vid brother... now lets hear more patches!!!
Man, that TNG intro is worth a sub.
Thank you for your great review!
Question: Onwards from minute 5:14 I the see the noise being turned down completely but it sounds like that there is still a bit of noise coming through. Is that an issue with this synth? Or am I completely mistaken (might be RUclips that is fooling my ears)?
I hear it too.
Must be YT or the recording. The Rev 2 is quite noiseless if you want.
Beautiful episode and every second worth the wait for it.
Thank you Merlin, did you think it was too long?
Noir Et Blanc Vie Not one single bit. The more complex the synth the longer the review should be. I generally enjoy videos between 5 to 20 minutes lenght, so yours is just perfect. BoBeats makes 1 to 3 hour videos. That is way to hardcore for me. Either way you just gotta stay yourselve. =]
A thoroughly thought out synthesizer with a beautiful sound, demonstrated in a awesome "trekkie" style video...what's not to like? Nice work man!
Love the effort and good vibes you put in this videos, keep it up!
I appreciate it, it’s a pleasure to do it for you!
Great video review, one of the most informative out there. Love the Alice band over the eyes....
I love the Synthesizer community. They’re so nice. This video is wonderful, popular, and has a low amount of dislikes (I think I’m going to try and buy a rev 2 desktop)
About a week or two into owning this beast and after a bit of disappointment (which comes with most big gear purchases) I have to say this thing is a monster. It fits in so well with my other monosynths. Sure it can't do triangle sub bass like my Little Fatty can, and it is in general thinner than my MS-20 on most settings, anything that doesn't require earth shaking bottom end (or a particular HPF patch) is demolished by this thing. The actual power on tap in terms of sound shaping is even more stupid than I imagined, especially in stacked patches. Put this thing through some good reverb and delay (I use a Timefactor and a TC T2) and it sounds huge.
Any updates?
@@gribo.9543 About three plus years into owning it: I still have it, but it's a piece I float in and out with. It's a very great synth, and I am back into a season of using it again. Simple patches are really easy to dial up, and dial in, and once you learn the sweet spots of the filter it becomes quite easy to make most traditional poly patches. The Rev 2 definitely has an issue in the low end, I don't think I have ever used it for any bass patch. It's definitely dialed for polyphonic play, so while the leads can be passable with the sub, there isn't enough weight in the low end. It does dial in nice dark pads very well. The bi-timbrality is also a nice touch, though I wish there was a copy layer feature. It also really sucks that high pass filtering (something I actually use a ton to shelve off bass in pads) takes up the effect slot, because some of the in built effects (the mistro phaser, chorus, and bbd in particular) are quite nice. I guess the way to put it is that the synth definitely fills a need in my toolkit, and has a very nice workflow, but I most often find myself pairing it with another layer (I use my hydrasynth a lot when I use the rev 2) or heavy processing. It offers a lot of power, and modulation ability for the price, and the voice count is silly. It is a synth I generally recommend to people.
Great review as always! Oh, and loved the bloopers.
Thanks Mike, it was fun to mess around. I’m just glad the light didn’t break haha
You dealing with the stuff falling down and the shirt at the end is basically me everytime I make a video! Great review of a great synth, would love to have a REV2 (or the almighty OB6) of my own one day!
Hahaha...This shirt was just a size too small
awesome
Why thank you! ☺️☺️
Hi Noir, Great video, Thanks for the outtakes LOL : ) , Keep up the Good Work Man!.Thumbs up.
Thanks, always good to see you here!
darn it, I can't give it several thumbs up,.
I need to give this video at least a thousands.
Please do more of these!!! They are super good!
I love my Rev2 .... played it for 30 minutes in the store, and knew I had to just take it home. Great video as always, sir!
Would you upgrade it with another 8 voice card?
Yeah, I noticed the unison thing, actually found it strange.
Noir Et Blanc Vie I only knew to expect it because of the sonic state review 😂 but I played with the unison enough and found some great stuff so didn't really care that it was only mono, personally. Once you start messing with the sync and "audio out," in the mod matrix, patched to the oscillator pitch and/or shape, you won't miss poly-uni-detune ... I feel like all of the alternative routing options, really does make up for that.
man i love your videos ..so clean and easy to understand.
Thank you, I love your profile name!
Great review :) This Star Trek style is great :) Can you create the "beam me up" sound :p
I hate to say it, but I really should have programmed the beam me up sound. That would have been the ultimate way of connecting the Synth and Star Trek. Probably could have done it with the stack mode.
Hands down, he best Rev 2 video on YT
ProducedByDouglas 🖖🏾
Really enjoying the longer content
Thanks Joe, it was a long one, but fun to do!
Great episode man! Entertaining and informative. Certainly wish I had one! Everything was great, except I think you had the noise generator going when you showcased the oscillators.
I might have, I noticed it and I totally apologize, completely my fault.
Great review! Just got my unit recently, works like a dream!
I know this might be a dumb question, but what do you like best about it?
Out of my price range but I look forward to hearing what others do with this box of awesomeness. :)
I feel that. It’s cheap for a poly, but it’s not really cheap at all.
Wow Star Trek...cooolll man. One synt great Ford so many think s.... Like for Film scoring Videogames etc.
Perfect video dude !!! :)
Perfect, wow, that’s a serious compliment!
Loved the way you presented this video and the trip down DSI /Sequential lane.
Thank you, did you think the length was too much?
Noir Et Blanc Vie In my opinion, you covered many aspect of this synth very well, you moved on to the diffrent aspects in good time. So if anything i wish it were longer. However im one of thousands of viewers :-), be intresting to hear what others have to say ;-)
Glad to hear it, I myself just don’t want to waste people’s time, I keep my stuff short, but this Synth was just to deep.
Wonderful review. Loved it! 😍
that's a long "minute." Thanks for this, it made my decision to buy the Rev 2 desktop easy.
This video is what made me buy the prophet.
this is so fucking good. thank you for existing
How did I not see this before, so good!
Review perfection. Fantastic work.
Laforge outfit: instant like
You definitely deserve much more subscribers ! Keep going
Thank you for that. While I know there are more popular channels I hope mine is unique in some way. 😊
Fam the Star Trek costume... I'm dying. Great review.
Thank you!!!! It was one size too small hahaha
I'm all about it, love it. Definitely "tempted" to get the Rev2, maybe in a few years when I can afford it...
Which other synths might be on your shortlist?
Excellent review and presentation !
fffffff - so tempted to sell my Slim Phatty to partially-finance a Rev2 right now
Dawnchaser I support this!
This is the best synth review ever! Love Geordi
Haha thanks Rory!!
Geordi! Always my favourite.
Sweet video! I like the sound of the Korg Prologue, but the Rev 2 sounds pretty sweet as well. Please make a couple songs with the Rev 2 if you get the chance. I'd love to hear them. :)
Great video and lovely demo 🙏
You are a god among nerds.
🖖
Great videos man, very much appreciated.
Thank you Mack!
Love this extended review! Rev2 sounds not so deep in low end, but it seems so flexible and full of promises.
M. G. Krøger it’s got low end with the right patch in dual mode very fat.
I think its good along with a bass drum, you havent to use a eq. And yes, its not a bass synth xP it shouldnt be.
You're absolutely right. The REV 2 isn't quite as deep in the lowend. However, it has the midrange and high-end on lockdown! It can really cut through a mix nicely. I have the 16-voice keyboard version. It compliments a Prophet 10 nicely. The sound character is totally different between the two synths.
Your videos get better and better. The next one can't come soon enough.... And I spy the ever-expanding eurorack hiding in the background there!
I think it’s going to be full cone mid next week. Bought some tip top modules the other day
Thanks, Officer! Awesome!
I was watching your recent videos and was like “no roast but it’s a missed opportunity that he doesn’t do a Georgi LARP.” Turns out i needed to be patient and keep watching.
Oh, I miss these uploads. Hope you are doing fine during this Corona lock down.
I've been waiting for your review on this synth. It's the main one left for me to get. In a comparison with the Korg Prologue how do you think they stand up head to head with each other? Me? I'm going with the Rev2. What's your choice and why?
Oh boy, you better go with that REV2! I played the Prologue at NAMM and I did not like the way it handled resonance. Did you hear I’m in some demos?
Come to think of it I think I did and I think you told me already stick with the Rev2. Another musician told me Prologue due to the VCO's instead of DCO's but from listening to the demos of the two I still preferred the Rev2 personally. Digital or Voltage wasn't an issue to me. Rev 2 it is!!
Noir Et Blanc Vie was wondering if you could fill me in about the lfo’s on the rev 2. I was trying to find this out. Apparently the rev doesn’t have like a global lfo..? Do you know if this is true? Meaning like you cannot control all oscillators with just one lfo. Maybe I’m rambling but it seems abit of a mis understood statement?
Hmmm, like a global LFO that would effect all oscillators, filter and say envelopes at the same time? I don’t think so.......you can’t take anything in the mod matrix and assign it to everything...What would you use the global LFO to effect?
Eff the Prologue, sounds like resonant garbage. (Oops, don’t tell Korg, they think it sounds good) 😏
I’m not at all a Trekkie but this is both hilarious and informative. GREAT VIDEO DUDE
Haha, thanks Brian, I’m not a Trekkie either, but people knew I had to do this costume at some point 😅
Love the Geordie outfit but Captain Benjamin Sisko would have been more appropriate to deal with the PROPHET...
Brilliant review as usual.
Thanks Stuart, how’d you think it compared to other episodes, too long?
Noir Et Blanc Vie A good length for a DSI instrument as sculpturally expansive as this. For most, the price tag is what keeps people from pushing the buy button, so intricate but to the point detail (as shown in this video) nails it home to just buy it if that’s the sound they want.
Also to note that DSI, among other brands, retain their value, totally worth the additional spend. Love my OB6 and now looking to get this.
This is great !!!
Thank you!
Noir Et Blanc Vie y'all walcooome
This is so excellent!
I've got a Prophet 8 (rev 1) and I've been debating where to go from there. It's been good to me, but just hasn't ever really hit home hard. There is something I like about the vibe of DSI synths, but I'm unsure of the P6, P12 or OB6 would be a better shift for me.
Wow, what a monster. Never had my paws on a Dave Smith board, but they seem to be such a different breed of cat than the classic monosynths (I love my ARP Odyssey!) or the Roland polysynths. It doesn't seem to have any limitations, and I can't tell if that's a good thing or not. But wow, love that fat envelope section! Thanks for a great review =)
Great Review Noir!
Thank you, ‘‘twas my pleasure!
Great vid just subscribed!
Love it! Can you please wear star trek uniform all the time now? Also i got a sh-01a just getting into it finally, people say its great for beginners but in my case its complex. I would really love to see you do a video on it anyway as i know you are an analog man at heart haha! Keep up the great work :-)
Amazing video, your productions are off the charts!
I've been stuck making a decision between the rev2 and the prophet 12. Any advice? I'd appreciate some opinions!
Xx
Its tough I own both and they are both fantastic instruments in their own ways. Its like saying whats better a Trumpet or a Saxophone it all depends on what you want to use them for.
Hope you get around to reviewing the Novation Peak synth! Channel is dope.
Thx for this great video ! But !What wrong with the sound quality ? I miss the top end, sound like a woolstuff lay on a monitor or so?! (sry for my crap englis\American language)
Such an amazing video
Thank you!!!!!!!!
Love your reviews.
Thank you! Really appreciate you stopping by!
Loved the intro hahah could you make a video like that for novation peak?
Maybe, Novation offered me a peak, but I gotta decide if I want to do this again. Complex Synth cause me to not want them to review half way through. If they give me one for free I’ll probably think long and hard about doing it. What makes you most interested in the peak?
Cool intro...and I want this synth
I... Don't know how I ended up in here, watching video on synths that I don't understand how they work (like, I don't have a intuitive feeling on what would happen if someone would turn one or more knobs there) by a fellow wearing star trek outfit. I'm confused, but glad that I'm now here.
I love your comment, thank you 😊 I hope you find some entertaining videos on your journey!
thank you for this video. very nice! stay yourself! you are great. p.s Hope you will do a review for the Korg Prologue synthesizer. They should send you one..!
great review!
Excellent review and demo. Just a tad longer than one minute though.
Haha, yeah Sammy....OMSR is an inside joke that’s almost 3 years old. Maybe I should retire it, it’s just confusing new peeps now. Lol
SammyVOfficial its one minute if you travel at the speed of time due to time dilation
