  • This video is an unboxing and first impressions of the Santos de Cartier wrist watch.
    I would definitely recommend this timepiece as a dress watch for people with average to small wrists. The large would be better for people with over 6.75 inch wrists.

      @walkerb1734 2 года назад +1

      @@wristroll_vlad Honestly, yes. I tens to be very careful when wearing my watches. So I have yet to experience any real dents or dings. That said, it does pick up hairline scratches and swirls like all other stainless steel watches do. But the flatness of the bezel does perhaps show them a little more. It’s the one downside of this amazing piece

      @@walkerb1734 thank you! I’m pretty neurotic about keeping my watches in pristine condition, so I’m still on the fence about adding the Santos. Enjoy yours and wear it in good health!

I was waiting for my Rolex AD to notify me of new stocks however I went and bout a medium santos and chose to make Rolex wait for me instead lol. I don’t regret my decision not one bit. I received my Santos medium a month ago, had a few problems with delivery delays but they are available - not like the crazy situation with Rolex. A bit of a challenge deciding bet the med and larger 39mm. I liked the blue dial w/date but with a smaller wrist opted for the med and it’s a perfect fit for me. The square case sits larger on the wrist than an equivalent 34mm round dial. Iconic unique design, you will never mistake this for anything else. This is a piece you will own forever.

      @@burbinghard I've had the Medium for a couple of months and I love it as a versatile dress watch. Last week I tried on the Large, and I am soooo glad I opted for the Medium. The large has the design language of a dress watch, but the proportions of a sport watch... and it comes off as confused. Maybe on a 7.5" wrist and above it works, but I didn't care for it at all.

    Nice review Burbinghard, it's an absolute fantastic watch. I purchased the large version just 2 weeks ago. The only complaint I have is the bezel is so nice and polished, but so easily scratched. Long sleeve dress shirts put hairline scratches on the polished bezel.

      I’m not a fan of DLC coating. I think it makes the watch less versatile as I don’t think a DLC coated watch can be dressed up quite as well. I’m a traditionalist and would opt for DLC coating on my tool watches and 🔫 s.

    Medium looks perfect on you! Can you provide your wrist size? Ideally would like to know the width of your wrist using those calipers more than the circumference.

    • @burbinghard
      @burbinghard  2 года назад

      I think using calipers across the top of your wrist is a better measurement than overall circumference. Across the top my wrist is just over 2” or about 52mm. Approximately 6.5” around. I could have gone with with either the medium or larger model but I wanted to be able to use it as a dress watch. The medium only gave me two small links to remove. So if you’re much bigger than 6.5 around I’d go large to avoid buying extra links.

    • @hiboostsupra5965
      @hiboostsupra5965 2 года назад

      @@burbinghard I'm 56mm across and 7" circumference. I really like the medium on paper because a) it is closer to the classic size and b) it doesn't have a date and c) this is not a watch that I want to fit me like a Panerai. Thanks for replying!

      I have a friend that works for Richemont who let me know luxury goods prices across the brands have been increasing. Other brands like LVMH has made price increases, and luxury goods sales have been very strong throughout the pandemic. He didn’t have a date but speculated it would hit Cartier later this year. Wish I had a more accurate time frame for you, but with inflation I think it’s inevitable.

    You’re calling this a dress classification but in Cartier standards and given it’s history of santos himself, this wears more for usemi-formal classic sports watch with its larger squared off look when compared to the Tank line. This is more in the class of retro sports watch rather than dress watch. Santos wore it as an aviation field watch back in the day but with some flare, he was an ostentatious fashion forward fellow who like to fly shit. I’d group this with the likes of other integrated sports watches. I’d rock this with a tee, v-neck, polo, Oxford, or dress shirt. I Agee that it’s definitely more versatile where you can wear it in all types of settings/occasion.
    Wish they came out with a blue medium version. I’m still not convinced the date is necessary. You don’t wear a Cartier to tell time. You wear it because it’s the watch to wear.

    • @burbinghard
      @burbinghard  2 года назад

      I totally agree with your comments. It’s definitely less formal than the Tank, but the Santos on leather can certainly be dressed up. In my collection it’s as dressy as I will need. It is a less capable sport watch as there is no lume, no safety clasp (butterfly on bracelet), and there are no complications. It is in a strange in-between space for sure.
