Was an honor to meet this man and dine with him. Thank you Lionel !
Wow. Amazing to look at this video and see my grandfather Johnny Board laying his tenor saxophone. Something I can share with my sons.
Magnificent!!!! the very essence of nonchalant vistuosity and COOL!!!!! This is the music myparents fell in love to....THE GREATETS GENERATION INDEED!!!!!
" TALENT " TALENT " TALENT "
The Hamp is swinging in this video! He plays the piano like he vibes sort of. LOVE THIS VIDEO. Whoever dislikes has no soul.
voilà un musicien dans l'âme capable de passer du vibraphone à la batterie avec une aisance remarquable .
Quincy Jones on trumpet on several songs, in the last one he stands up and takes a short solo. I arrived to this video because I'm reading his autobiography (which I recommend a lot) and he talks extendedly about this band. Clifford Brown played in this band too, I don't know if he is on any of this videos, but Q is very recognizable! Regards fron Barcelona!
Simplesmente sensacional!
Great to see Milt Buckner. He was on organ when I went down to Ronnie Scott;s to see the Illynois Jacuet trio. Tony Crombie on drums

My intro to jazz some seventy years ago. One of the best jazz show bands of the time. Note the “soot”suits which was the fashion of the time.
That is supposed to be ZOOT Suits.
Milton Brent Buckner (July 10, 1915 - July 27, 1977) was an American jazz pianist and organist, who in the early 1950s popularized the Hammond organ.[2] He pioneered the parallel chords style[3] that influenced Red Garland, George Shearing, Bill Evans, and Oscar Peterson. Buckner's brother, Ted Buckner, was a jazz saxophonist.
that's Betty Carter on COBB'S IDEA.
Billy mackel its a nice musician
ME HE QUEDADO ESTUPEFACTO PARA NO DECIR UNA GROSERIA. MAESTRO
That flute at 27:50 looks so small, i wonder if it's a rare Db flute.
:-D The guy's just great!
#Jazz 30:58 Rare or unique - Lionnel Hampton (c, p, vb, dm, & fl) playing the #Flute in Air Mail Special ( Sander Telesciptions 1951 ) - RUclips - bit.ly/1jjRCsS
