Louis Armstrong - Satchmo At His Best - Legends In Concert

- Louis Armstrong, nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an "inventive" cornet and trumpet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence in jazz, shifting the focus of the music from collective improvisation to solo performance. With his instantly recognizable deep and distinctive gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also greatly skilled at scat singing (vocalizing using sounds and syllables instead of actual lyrics).
Renowned for his charismatic stage presence and voice almost as much as for his trumpet-playing, Armstrong's influence extends well beyond jazz music, and by the end of his career in the 1960s, he was widely regarded as a profound influence on popular music in general. Armstrong was one of the first truly popular African-American entertainers to "cross over", whose skin-color was secondary to his music in an America that was severely racially divided. He rarely publicly politicized his race, often to the dismay of fellow African-Americans, but took a well-publicized stand for desegregation during the Little Rock Crisis. His artistry and personality allowed him socially acceptable access to the upper echelons of American society that were highly restricted for a black man.
Louis Armstrong -- Satchmo At His Best - Legends In Concert Also featured is footage of Armstrong playing with such jazz greats as Lionel Hampton and Jack Teagarden. Most of the performances are in black and white as it was made up using archive footage. In his early 20s, Armstrong moved to New York, where his music influenced many top musicians of the time.

Satchmo is one of the greatest musicians of all times - any genre, no discussion. Fact.
Hello AA
Music:. I agree
I wish I could have seen him perform. There will never be another Louis!
I remember seeing him several times on the tv variety shows in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Sullivan, Durante, Gleason and the like. I heard and liked immediately.
I'm normal teenager, i listen to pop music like everyone else, but when comes to louis or some other legends of jazz i can't help to put away pop and start listen to good old jazz :) love it!!!
Love the old clips of Louis! No one could make the trumpet soar like Mr.Armstrong.
What have I done to deserve such a treat? Thank you Almighty Lord 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I just finished listening to that whole 55 minute show. There were several times that I could not resist moving my shoulders and/or feet to the beat! My heart was light-weight and I smiled, just lost in his wonderful music and his voice!
. . . Now it's over and I feel that loss. . . .
It's a good thing that there's more Louise Armstrong videos here on RUclips! And I'm glad that I have some of his albums on CD!
I just listened to 1965 BERLIN. ❤🎉excellent, of course. ❤️ love
This is the Best. Nothing to compare.
The eyes tell a story. Whenever Louis is getting ready to hit those high notes he turns his eyes toward the skies. GOAT.
mi piace molto
Every time I hear Louis I get happy inside. It's like when I hear the blackbird singing in the springtime - it makes the life flow Again. Good we have Louis.
so beautiful description of his rithm...thank you Anthony
I know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account..?
I somehow forgot the login password. I would love any assistance you can give me.
@Brock Victor instablaster :)
I agree Keld , so thankful for all the footage on him.
Thanks so much for posting. My dad, Sid Davilla, was a jazz musician and had a nightclub on Bourbon Street in the 50's and 60's. I have a picture of Satchmo with my parents taken a year before I was born. It's something I really treasure! When I posted it on Facebook, my friends were awestruck!
I am so envious 1956..but this is wonderful for you!! Cheers..Marilyn...Can I have a sticky at the photo on your FB page?????
I'm 25, sad, lonely, nihilistic, and depressed far too often. If there is a God or not, I sincerely thank It for Louis Armstrong, one of few lights that can shine when many others have gone out.
WOW!!! ""Take It Trummy""..(And he DID!!) Those are words I remember from my childhood, in the 50's dancing to Louis'' 78""s that Mum would play!!! What an incredible find!! Thank you so much onemedia..!! I do hope this video is backed up (don't worry about it going down a generation!!!)..and I hope it is insured to High Heaven!!!! Louis, Trummy..who I met as a 5 year old girl at Louis'' concert in Sydney..my Hero!!!.. A lineup a mile long..Trummy and Louis playing it off at 23:13...And, yes..I will be following your links!! and Liking you! Thank you, again..Cheers..Marilyn...
Legends never die. Wow!
It's like the first time every time with Satchmo.
Where he and his music influenced ALL musicians - not to mention just about all listeners as well. I never attended a Louis Armstrong concert that wasn't packed.
What a wonderful artist! And all the other legends ... Trummy Young, Jack Teagarden, Peanuts Hucko etc. Even Gerry Mulligan! Thanks for uploading, onemediamusic!
Please, do not forget of Edmund Hall (clarinet) !!!!!
That mumbling part is genius
This video is full wide variety of great performances, all in their entirety, MANY of which I have never seen before. Louis is playing at a high level of swing, technical perfection and beautiful high notes, endless endurance, never surpassed over decades. When I was 19 years old, Louis treated me like I was an old friend, showed me his mouthpiece and spirits of nitre for the chops.(And Swiss Kriss).A creative genius who joyed in God;s gifts,
I was born in the wrong place and wrong decade... I know by this music and the feels it grows inside me...
no words can describe the magic of the man
Sactchmo is really a pathfinder for all Trumpeters as he was perfect in an effortless approach to add grace notes & glisandos and this really added to the texture of the piece played & that too spontaneous.
This is great! Most young people have no idea of who he even was. They have no idea of the influence this man had on modern day music. He was/is a musical foundational corner stone of American Music & Entertainment.
Incredible, as always. No one really ever talks about Mort Herbert, but he swings his ass off!! I’m always happiest when I see that the lineup features Trummy Young. Louis is simply the greatest ever.
I’ve been a rock n roller all my life but I love this music and I get it. I like all music that is good. Seems like mostly all the good music’s been done ‘cause you never hear anything that good anymore. Whether it’s Louis or Miller or Dizzy or Miles or Dylan or Lennon we’ll never hear anything better again. And Louis was one of the best of the best. Thank the stars for recordings. And thank you for posting this.
This version of St Louis Blues was new to me. Great stuff, with all the other giants of Jazz in the band. The lady singing I donnot know!
As a teenager I saw Armstrong live in concert twice in Sweden. A great musician and also superb entertainer.
WOW great job putting this together!!!! I was 10 when I first heard his music, along with other great artists from the same period, I'm in my twenties now and I can't get enough Great music never gets old.
How can you be a human being and not enjoy one song by the ole satchmo :)
Emocionante!!!!! una leyenda viva vigente , genio!!!
Lord !!!! dear Satchmo you are in Heaven!!!!
This gave me such joy to listen to and to watch. Thanks so much for uploading it. If my father were still alive, he'd be digging this swing. Of course, he gets the best jazz in Heaven now anyway ...
Louis Armstrong made you feel the music at his best. He and Harry James were my favorites!
I almost start to cry wishing I played with them
are you that good?
wish i could of seen him perform
I'm one of those lucky people who did: Empress Hall London May 1956 as a 16 year old when Ed Murrow was filming his documentary "Satchmo the Great", and twice at the Kilburn Gaumont in February 1959 (I caught both concerts on same day) Also got his autograph!! One of my most treasured possesions and memories.
@@GERRY1939 That’s wonderful! Indeed a prized possession! And two concerts on the same day, what a happy memory and a lovely luxury, to saturate in the presence of Satchmo for the day! Must have been delightful!
@@misskim2058 It was thank you
Thank you very much.Wonderfull
You're welcome Piet - keep watching and subscribe to check out even more great live legends in concert performances from some big names! :)
If only we had signers like this, still!!
The best trumpetplayer of the world ....I think.....greetings from Antwerp
This music sets my heart on fire!!!
Big T Jack Teagarden in Jeepers Creepers the greatest trombone player that ever lived!
Oh YES David Bento!! He most definitely was..followed by Trummy Young...(but I am biased..had a crush on Trummy from a little girl.can you believe it!! Mum thought I was..I don't know..but we both loved Louis! I thank my lovely mother, a singer, for my deep love of Jazz, blues, swing!)
I can´t imagine a live without Sachmo (or Ella Fitzgerald), everytime I do my homework I have to listen to them :D Thank you for the upload!
Especially when you consider Louis did not read music, it was all by ear! A bloody good ear.
Thanks for posting. ... and as a long time member of the Louis Armstrong House Museum , I strongly recommend anyone visiting NYC to make the pilgrimage to this "mecca." The story behind Louis' residence--thanks to his wife Lucille--and the creation of the museum, with it's recent upgrades-will give you an even greater insight to his greatness as a musician and human being. Truly a gem , and great way to stay connected with all things Satchmo.
I always like Armstrong, but when I heard him on Summertime with Ella, although not an expose of his incredible talent, I could not believe his technical skill, vocal and instrumental. Even his background filler was great. I was hooked.
Louis Armstrong you feel his music (it cuts through to the heart and soul)
Don't listen to the music just feel it and you'll get it. 62 people never got that memo. Thanks for the incredible video.

At 12:43, Jack Teagarden and Louis are just fabulous.......
Nagyon tetszik és gyakran megnézem.
I heard Armstrong twice, the first in the summer of 1964 at the New York World's Fair and then on New Year's Eve 1964 in San Carlos, CA, just days before I departed for Army service in Vietnam.
Gotta love that hot dixieland style of jazz trumpeting.
Thisis not Dixieland but new orleans . Dixieland is a copy of N.O plaid by white people, often good stuff, but copy.Nowadays We could say that's the same thing, but at the beginning of the century, Satch did (quite)invented (after buddy bolden), but in better way This jazz
Jean Lemenicier
Oh I didn't know that. Thanks!
all negative thoughts go away as soon as Louie picks p his horn...He was a musical genius
The bucket got a hole in it, that was the first number of Satch i heard, from this time i heard thousands of numbers of the great Pops. I am always fan of his music.
Wow! Simply Great! Satchmo came to Ghana in 1961 and traced his ancestry to that country.

We're not entirely sure - usually it was Bessie Smith or Velma Middleton who performed the St Louis Blues with him. Will have a search and see if we can find a name! :)
Hi onemedia..I saw Louis and the Allstars..Trummy (dad got his autograph for a 5 year old me..big crush on Trummy!!) This hurts...... Satchmo playing a slave..... HE WAS SO MUCH MORE.......
Di An I know...
It's racist.
Yeah, EVERYTHING is 'racist', and blacks are the only ones who've ever had any problems. My heart just bleeds.
On the bright side, better do play a slave that actually be one.
One of the best.
es simple mira lo bueno que es, que hombre tan integro, Música hay música
