    OMG this was so refreshing! I grew up reading that british windsufing magazine and every single review you could tell they were absolutely terrified of offending any company. Literally every product was amazing in nearly every way, you had to interpret each review like it was written in some unknown language I call Obsequiese.
    I love your willingness to say what was bad. (Although even you had to be super polite.... Understandable given you're looking for a sponsor. But that makes your honesty even more impressive)
    More please 🙌

      Exactly - in Windsurfing Magazine all is great.

    • @Bart-surf
      @Bart-surf 2 месяца назад +3

      The disadvantage of reviews in magazines is that they are financially dependent on advertising revenues from the brands they test. Well, then you can't judge freely and honestly. Ricardo did well but of course he is not linked to a brand now and then that is possible. Maybe also a board test?!

    Thank you - exactly the approach that was always missing. Maybe the next one could focus on the current top wave-boards - not only of the main brands, but also strong customs on the tour like BRUCH-Boards and FLIKKA. And don't hold back...

    Very useful, thanks. Most revealing for me is your making the link between the size/weight of the riders who influence the design of a sail and its handling characteristics. I hadn't considered this before. For me your opinion does count very much Ricardo, because of how you sail, but please consider that we live in a dishonest world where those who tell the truth rarely get thanked for it.

    Honest reviews are one of the rarest things on YT, or on the internet in general. Not just for windsurfing, for any subject, so a big THANK YOU. Subscribed and eagerly awaiting for a boards review (or opinion on more niche sail brands). Booms would also be good, as they are a critical part of control and maneuverability.

    I use a simmer Blacktip 4.2. Its range is insane. And the power it deliveres.
    I have ridden also a blade 5.3. Blades are indeed lighter but Blacktip is more powerful and bold. And it’s a 4 batten sail. Also much more durable than severne. Here in Greece however Severn is much more popular. But for me Simmer all the way. And Ricardo seems to agree with me hahaha

    • @wetchicken8533
      @wetchicken8533 18 дней назад

      I love the blacktip too. 2018 to 2023 are great. Had a few feedbacks about the 2025 from good sailors really used to the blacktip and the spirit seems to be changing. I hope not too much. It used to be one of the best constructions ever made for hardcore conditions. Maybe slightly heavier then but at least you feel confident. I hope the cost of material and the trend for always lighter and lighter gear will not be the same for Simmer ... When a sail is so good why suddenly changing the whole design ?

    Thank you Ricardo. This is a great review. I think it is fine to be honest about how you feel about equipment. Different people will like different things and if more people did honest reviews like this we would all have an idea of what we would prefer for our type of sailing. For what it is worth, when I watched your videos of you sailing these sails I felt that you looked best on the Simmer and Neil Pryde and worse on the Severne sails, but other sailors would be different. Hope you find a sponsor as the tour needs you.

    Very nice and honest video, we really appreciate this. In most mag tests you have to read between the lines to understand the conclusions. Yes, as he says he has different expectations than most of us (capacity for push forwards!), but lightness, power, speed and manoeuverability are definitely universal. I'm pretty sure there is room for more such tests. Our investment in equipment is worth it

I was told by others Yeah it’s great only to find out it didn’t work for me… So please produce more like this… you could make something out of this type of honest testing…. You have the skills to understand the kit, 90% of testers aren’t good sailors…. Thanks

    Sweet! Gives us normals a good starting point towards which ones to try and evaluate for ourselves, along with your thoughts on why the performance difference comes in with respect to rider weight and conditions - so thank you so much, very refreshing as many have commented already. If you have a chance to also try the Hot Sails and give us your impression alongside these that would be fantastic for us Maui based folk. I'll have to see if Robert can get me a NP to try as my current quiver is wearing out fast. Aloha from Huelo and hope Venezuela is doing better.

    Thank you Ricardo for the great reviews👌. I am not even a moderate wave sailor but I would always prefer Simmer Style(and Hot Sails Maui) because of the heritage of the brand and its , for me, distinctive appearance (brand value). What is Alfa Romeo for me for cars, is Simmer Style for windsurfing. Hope you will be back on the tour soon, probably not with GA😂

    I have always used either Naish or Gaastra sails; however, I was positively surprised with my first 2020 Neil Pryde Speedster 8.2 sail. So well balanced, exellent topspeed and a wider wind range that I have never experienced before. Beside that, I especially love the (fighter jet) top-wing design!. Dont know why other sailmakers "cut" the top slightly off. Definately not my last sail from Neil Pryde!!!.

    The main solution to sail test reviews is to try as many sail brands for yourself as possible. You know you want to. I just do free ride bump and jump so i choose on basis of graphic design. All been good out of Severne, Duotone, Neil Pryde, Naish, Point-7, Goya. Haven't had a chance to try the others. Severne S-1 is supposed to be good for wind foiling but haven't tried it yet as i've got Freeks which are freeking awesome for foiling.

      I've got a 5.7 m2 2022 Naish Force 5 and it is great for free ride, bump and jump etc. First couple of times from new you need to check the pin thing at mast head (mast bung) is in the mast top ok before fully downhauling. First time i did it mast popped out top of luff sleeve. Seems to go in on auto pilot now the material of luff is a bit loosened up. The sail material seems to shed water very quickly. I bought this sail as tribute to Robby Naish and also that Ricardo Campello helped to design it

    Super fun to watch. I have to say that after an hour and a half you can't really tell if the sail fits you. Furthermore, you should use the same sails, otherwise it's a bit like comparing apples and oranges. For example, the S1 Pro sails very differently than the "regular S1".
    Fun to watch and keep up the good work

    Thank you for that Ricardo! It is a nice Idea to do this an I like the clear Opinion you have on the sails. But again I have the feeling you are very in financial trouble an even most of us know that feelings around that, it does not help to show it in this "fun sport no problems phantasy would". For me it have something to do with our mindset and what kind of energy we spread out in the would…
    So my arrogant advice is, try to feel that you already have a good Sponsor and a Chance to win the would Title…

    How fast a sail is and what it is like for double forwards; you dont read that in the magazine tests! For an average sailor like myself how fast can be important (as I do some flat water sailing as well), doubles not so much. Really interesting your point about sailor weight and how that affects the sail's performance, you dont read that much in the magazines either.

      It is heavy and not for light sailor!

      @@SuperFlo8888 It is lighter in weight (kg) but yes little heavier in handling.
      I have sailed Ezzy elite and Wave for years next to Severne Blade. The Blade was more crisp but comparatively much more sensitive to windspeed. Not that one gets overpowered easily but it looses its grunt easily. Ezzy is more forgiving on wind in particular falling windspeed. The greatest advantage however was that Ezzy sails where stronger and last much longer.

      I'm light and love the Ezzy Wave but I always set it on the max downhaul setting, and minimal outhaul. I think the masts could be lighter but they are bombproof.
