We had a drop in center right above a liquor store, no cover charge. It felt subversive hanging out with other kids while the neighboring bar did karaoke, we didn't get up to much but there was a bunch of videogames to play with strangers.
Actually there’s TONS of songs in the show that are playing in the background? Serial experiments Lain’s songs are like one of the best features of the show lol.
watch it's successor, texhnolyze. slow pacing tho, not much dialogue, very atmospheric. and prolly the most mindfucked nihilistic piece of anime/art today.
If you're still looking for similar music, I'd suggest The Prodigy songs, for example: "First Warning," "Serial Thrilla," & "Climbatize" Trentemøller - "Always something better" CJ Bolland - "It's All In The Mind" Sorry if none of these were what you were looking for, cheers!
I've been looking all around for a good quality sub because, being a child of 95'/ early 2000's, I recognize that some of the best phylosophical topics were presented through really good animes back then. Gloomy, slightly depressing, but relevant in their surrealism and art (Ghost in the Shell, Witch Hunter Robin, and I'm sure Ergo Proxy counts).
phase866 For old anime and shows the only way to get good picture quality is to actually buy the DVD itself because the rip's look really bad if the show isn't ripped from a blu-ray disc. The price is reasonable considering what you get
It's such an urgent yet groovy song. It's like something is going wrong as alarm bells ring through your ears, yet everyone still has some time to dance before shit hits the fan. And the breaks where the music calms down also still have anxiety in them, the pitch getting higher. It fits well with what happens at Cyberia that kicks off the series- a guy killing a couple people and then himself. The urgency and panick of this song perfectly fits that theme.
One cannot enjoy this song without listening 0:23 to 1:12 on full blast and full bass ITS FUCKIN' WORTH IT, I CAN'T HEAR A THING NOW AND ITS FRICKIN' AWESOME
I was born in 2002 and didn't discover this anime until I was twelve, so wayyy late into the game. I still have such a unique, deep and relevant bond to this anime in my own way, but if any feel so inclined I'd love to know how Lain hit back then.
this just feels like that one time you have been to a night club as a kid, everything around shaking and moving so rapid you cant focus on anything, music almost as if roaring into your ears, and you're confused trying to hide from this
Adult Swim should very much have slated something like "Serial Experiments Saturday Night's" every other month in the early '00's, in which they'd feature three episodes of Lain up until the finale. Geneon of course would've never paid like MacFarlane.
Very nicely done, but I wish you had shown her angry face with the red tint... I think that captures the moment perfectly. I once tripped and saw this mean grandmothers face, cursing at me, even though she wasn't really that's what I saw. And words can't describe the fear I felt at that moment. When I watched Episode 2 I felt like the conceptual artist had been there himself because he depicted the feeling perfectly, right down to the look of terror on that boys face.
Serial Experiments Lain is probably one of the most confusing amines Ive ever seen (Compared to Elfin Lied), Ive watched it more than 4 times through it so addicting! Thanks for uploading this song Ive been looking everywhere for it! I WANT ACELLA!
I always get this confused in memory with some of the soundtrack from Deus Ex like the Lucky Money music. I guess the memory slots for "cyberpunk dance club background music" in my head are unlabeled.
Perhaps the reason they were so addicting is because they were so few. There's the Cyberia Theme, the opening and ending songs, about 2 or 3 other soundtracks I heard and actually remembered in the ENTIRE anime. Though, to be fair, this anime didn't really need music. It's awesome as it stands, seeing as this is the first anime that I bought the BD/DVD for. The only thing I dislike about Serial Experiments Lain is how short it was.
What I meant is that if you haven't studied at least some of it, the whole serie will be pretty much senseless until about episode 9 or so... and it will still blow your mind

Reminds me of the teen discos they do here, though they weren't as cool as cyberia haha
