Club DJ here. Trust me, a lot of us WANT to play music like this (I try and sneak in some every now and then), but a lot of the clubs I DJ (Okinawa, Fukuoka, and Tokyo) just want to hear either just straight hip hop or the most mainstream soulless EDM.
I remember here in the states Lain came on TechTV real late, like 1am. TechTV had an anime special during that time where they played weird stuff, not the run of the mill shounen like on Cartoon Network. I remember that feeling of staying up way past my normal bedtime, past when any of my family members stayed up, to watch shows like Lain and Ergo Proxy. While the world was sleeping I was cramming my own sleep deprived head with existential fears and dark tragedies, yet there was an odd comfort to that. I was safe BECAUSE the world was asleep. I could experience these dark emotions and all the catharsis that came with it without the burdens of fake smiles and smalltalk. If I wanted to cry I could, who would judge me? It's in the safety of that darkness that I found a deeper part of myself. Lain is a fantastic moniker for Jvnes music. It's the exact same safe dread of watching psychological horror alone under a cozy blanket on the couch in your family home.

This compilation is singlehandedly helping me to finish my writing of PhD by striking just the very right pitch of anxiety and depression and RAVE at the same time.
It sucks that I only found Sewerslvt about a year ago and that she's quit. She introduced me to this type of music (whose genre I don't even know the name of to this day) and now we'll never be able to hear more of it. Hearing this music brings me to a sort of feeling of peace, and knowing there'll be no more of it is a little gut-wrenching. That part in Lolibox with the Silent Hill 2 samples, absolutely incredible. I'm surprised there aren't more artists that sample SH2, that OST has such a rich and cohesive yet distinct sound perfect for more chill or melancholy tracks

Kind of amusing considering around that time I was still far too young to go clubbing, being in my pre-teens, and Sewerslvt according to the age that's been mentioned in the past is even younger than me. The fact there's still zoomers out there diving into these older forgotten styles and inspired to make similar music, even if with modern touches gives me some comfort in knowing they're still as curious as us millennials have been for decades, despite what we're told.

The underground scene is absolutely thriving, go on resident advisor and find a good looking night. Maybe if you're german or aussie you get something like this, UK if you're lucky, but Portugal, Italy, Spain, the overwhelming majority of the US or other countries? too bad the techno scene from my city was co-opted by rich clubbers. it has been a while since i've attended a real basement-goodvibes-cheap and yet good party. parties organized by people who don't necessarily need to profit and charge a stunning amount of money for a god damn bottle of water and an overpriced ticket. don't get me wrong... money isn't a problem to me, but when organizers want to profit they'll inevitably loosen up on certain quality-of-party aspects.

I feel that Euphoric Filth never got as much attention as it deserved, it is such a sexy trance that drives me from the inside to either follow the beats, or shake my whole damn skeleton while thinking of those voices, the way the just shape anything around into another part of the soundscape, even the quietest things acquire some form of vibration. too bad the techno scene from my city was co-opted by rich clubbers. it has been a while since i've attended a real basement-goodvibes-cheap and yet good party. parties organized by people who don't necessarily need to profit and charge a stunning amount of money for a god damn bottle of water and an overpriced ticket.
don't get me wrong... money isn't a problem to me, but when organizers want to profit they'll inevitably loosen up on certain quality-of-party aspects.
