To this day, this is still the best "high energy laser weapon" scene I have seen in any movie. The way the metal doors briefly shut out the light before turning red, orange, yellow is an amazing buildup. As the door bursts, you see that most of the superheated metal is basically liquid, and the entire structure instantly dissolves. Great animation to really convey the amount of energy transferred.
Everyone says, how scary and bad ass that robot is. But when I was child (and even now) I cried. It wasn't something bad, it was a robot, that wanted to defend. It hadn't killed any soldier guy, only guns. And when it showed Laputa emblem, it was like a try to talk, like "I'm your friend. I will defend you." And then BOOM... It is dead...
That thing used to scare the LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of me. The way it can take out a village in a few shots was was got me and the mass destruction it could have caused.
Snouty, your video is unique in the fact that Studio Ghibli hasn't gotten around to filing a copyright complaint against your channel. And honestly, I'm glad they haven't, because I always love coming back here to this amazing scene that I only catch glimpses of in the trailers. I'd prefer this scene without the music, but really, it's very easy to turn the sound off and watch the beauty of the animation in silence. So thank you, for this wonderful video.
Nop, you are in an error, studio ghibli takes down spirited away videos( i hate them), not totoro or laputa , i have uploaded some without problems, but if i try to upload something about spirited away it is taken down, pokemon anime is taken down too by a company called shopro
This entire movie is a warning about the nuclear deterent. These robots are the embodiement of it. Massive destruction power for the sake of protection is a risky road as you never know who's gonna control it in the future, and its usage will always be as cold as a robot. the fact that it's damaged is no coincidence either to me. it shows how unpredictable and uncontrolable these kind of power can be with only a little damage
The impending doom this thing gave off by walking through the base and causing endless destruction with the entire military greatly struggling to take it down used to TERRIFY me as a kid
My first and favourite anime... I saw it when I was like 5-6 years. When I saw that moment with robot, I had mixed feelings, like I was scarsd a bit and felt something special, idk how to explain it. This is the best anime in my mind. Ehh so nostalgic.
Sorry to reply so late. When this video was posted up, I was new to the whole fair use thing. At the time I was not sure if fair use meant we had to change the clip somehow so we changed something the music, because our emphasis wasn't on the film, wasn't on the sound, it was on the robot character itself and it was part of an article about robots. That's the reason. Our understanding has grown though so we would not repeat the past. Thanks for asking nicely, sorry it ruined it for you.
This scene had to be one of the most influencial ones in Anime. I cant immagine it didnt inspire a lot of later robot, or laser weapon scenes, and animations.
Does anyone remember the Grolgoth in Rayman 2? You know? The big yellow robot that Razorbeard pilots right at the end of the game? Yeah that thing is actually based on the Laputa robots.
I was hoping you could post the video without this dumb music. I really really really was hoping to be able to download it off youtube, and have a copy of this scene for myself in its original form. I have a plugin for the browser firefox that allows me to download videos from RUclips.
Look i grew up with this from age 6, its my favourite thing in the world... & i have NO problem with no leaf clover as its awesome, esp the s&m version... its just his choice of some music to list/tribute appreciation for a great character - leave him/her alone... its not the end of the world now is it. id be more worried about that damned disney version of the whole film myself.

I remember doing some calculations and figuring out that melting the door that quickly would require over 12,000 megawatts of power.
Não necessariamente...😶@@bigguy4u989
@@bigguy4u989wouldn't it be written as 12GW then
@@teamllr3137 yeah but 12,000 megawatts sounds like a bigger number
The way it tried to protect Sheeta before being destroyed always broke my heart
These robots, and this scene in particular, used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid.
Except the moss covered dude, he's cool.
The robots were terrifying and an example of why you didn't want the main bad guy to have any Laputian technology...
I just though they were badass as a kid
@@twosphere-e5f me too
The moss covered dude would have got his moss growing on you too. lol

great vid but the music totally ruined everything thank you very much...
Did NOT see that one coming a mile away.
Tae Oh agreed
agreed.
this clip's editor thought ,metallica is better than Joe Hisaishi's original score.
Would be copyright striked with original audio
Stfu Metallica best band ever

Everyone always talks about how sweet the Gardener Robot is with the flower, but everyone ignores how bad ass this robot was
I agree
@@vivianleonlove do you even know what badass means
I'm not saying he's a good guy, he just has a simple idea: protect his master, remember, he's not a human but a robot.
they're the same model of robot. the gardener could easily do all of this if not more given the fact he still had all his limbs
あのロボットとこの戦闘型ロボットは同じ種類でも用途が違います。このロボットは戦闘型、介護型などの種類があるため分けて考えるべきです
When you accidently hit the irongolem in Minecraft
This thing can take out an entire village in a couple of shots. Imagine how much destruction an entire army of those robots would cause.
a dozen of them could take over a country
For everyone, they were afraid, but me? I saw a dragon in shining armor, willing to protect someone with their own life.
I've spent nearly 30 years trying to find the name of this movie. I thought it may have all been a fever dream. Thanks
Did you ever rewatch it?
Yeah did you ever rewatch it
yeah did you ever rewatch it 2.0
Fun Fact:
This robot (Laputian Robot) is the origin of Minecraft's Iron Golem
also was the inspiration for the robot Bastion from the game Overwatch, covered in moss with a bird friend on his shoulder

Pretty sure the nuke guns on the actual castle are the main embodiment of nukes. But the robots are pretty destructive too.
My favorite scene in the movie. ^^

rough calculations: in order to melt that door the robot is dumbing about 50 tons of tnt equivalent energy into it in 5 seconds
When i was super little (2-4) i used to call the robo soldier iron giant because to little me, any Big robot is the iron Giant
Original music made it badass. I wanted the original
Ah. I've read the description. That's a shame.

A better way to avoid copyright would be to have the Robot with the voice of Liberty Prime.
why would you put a song like that on that footage?
to dodge the Copyright infringement (if shattered will lead to either termination of account or FBI Enforcement action)
Cuz metallica is badass
average jojo character in battle tendency:
it's hilarious to see that one soldier who's using a German rifle reloading like crazy

when i was a child this scene traumatised me so hard i cried everytimed
when the robot tried to help the girl before being shoot by the guys
How I expect the iron golem to fight a raid
Mojang why didnt ya make the iron golem this war machine
why's there shitty music instead of the actual audio?
Copyright most likely

They would make quick work of standard space marine.
Thanks for the defense. It's quite nice. Piggies appreciate kindness.

In every scene the soldiers try to escape from something they seem desperate and 1 of them always trip over

Iron golem in minecraft inspired by this ancient robot
And i know from magma musen
And this robot was inspired by the giant robot in the animated movie The King and the Mockingbird. It's a weird movie but it's worth watching
This would sound great with the last stand behind it
The new film of DreamWorks. Is amazing
I can't wait to watch it.
Why not make the actual video? I could barely even find clips of this movie on RUclips but the music ruined everything
The OP is evading the copyright enforcement on RUclips, it's annoying, I agree, but that's why you're struggling to find the scene as I just have.
In my opinion he looks like a mixture of the iron giant and the queen news of the world robot
