No she did not let him out. She had a pretty high bail. What I do not understand why a bail bond company would even post it since he jump bail so much. Bail bond companies do not have to provide bail in cases like this.
The judge is just following the DA's orders, let's face it America's justice system is corrupt beyond repair. Look around the world, this doesn't happen anywhere else in the first world and not even most of the third world, but it happens in every single state in America, no matter who the judge is, no matter what color the state is, no matter who the president is. LOTS of people make LOTS of money from our system being completely broken. Blaming a single judge is laughable, this is a nationwide thing. Our for-profit justice system is only out for profit, not justice.

There are guidelines for bond and release and it has way more to do with legislation. People get released every day in this country with much lower bond with much higher charges. It’s the same thing with sentencing guidelines. We need to fix the system.

In most states the courts are required by law to set bond, except in capital cases. And in some states bond has to be granted to even those charged with capital offenses - it's that way in my state, and killers are routinely out on bond. I suspect it's that way in this state. The judge did set a quarter-million dollar bond... she almost certainly had no authority to have him held until trial. The root problem is that neither the law or the activists care for the law-abiding or the innocent. The stars of the criminal justice system are the criminals. No one cares about your strangled child, but watch how everyone rushes to the rescue of the killer.

Over crowding in prisons is the usual excuse for them allowing someone like him to return to the streets. It’s not those people’s specific fault that the states where this kind of stuff happens because the states don’t have the money, or the space to jail them. The fact is they should only put violent people like this guy in prison, and come up with alternative methods for all non-violent offenders. It’s a broken system is the real problem.

the jails are full. Several states are barely able to prosecute short of the most severe stuff. California for example as of 2017 their jails were 37% over-capacity (since then they released a lot of lower level offenders getting that down a bit but they are still way over). Other states are in similar boats. The jails were filled to the brim due to the war on drugs to where many even more severe offenders get released pretty early.

As a young adult i was arrested for driving without a license. I owed maybe 450$ and i couldnt find a bondsman anywhere because it was a cash bond. Now i understand not wanting to give up cash to let someone out you dont know. But to let a man out who shot at and attempted to kill police on a quarter million dollar bond that he wont even be able to pay in his lifetime is insanity.
I’m from Australia. I have a friend in the US. During convid he lost his job. Ended up selling everything he had and after a while while sleeping in his car. Now he’s in jail for not paying child support. Never been in trouble his entire life. Yet you shoot at police and get let out. Wtf
It really depends on the state. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin have the most liberal bail laws in the world. You can shoot at cops in Minnesota and be walking the streets the next day. Conversely, you can spit on a sidewalk in Alabama and spend the next 30 days in county jail. It just depends on what attitude the state takes toward crime.

It is frustrating, but the source of the problem are the lawmakers and the fact that there are not enough jails in the US to hold everyone.Judges are the secondary problem. As a result, less than 1.2 million are incarcerated and 3.7 million are out on parole/probation. They kick them loose with light sentencing time, to make room for the next. I've ready quite a few articles and statistics about your country and this problem. (I read everything LOL) Several of your laws are insane and a human rights issue as well.

It's not always the courts that are to blame. Sometimes what judges do is dictated by law. The judge obviously didn't see him as a serious flight risk or there was some legal reason why he was given a bail/bond. I agree that he should have not been released given the information that was presented.

The angle the suspect has on a shield gives more protection than you’d think to officers as well 👍

Most states have a bail schedule that judges must follow. It's hard to deny someone bail in a system that presumes innocence. And for every case like this where someone should be in jail, there are 15 people that can't make bail and shouldn't be in jail.
i just want to say, i spent 36 months in prison as a first offense, dealing in stolen property. I SPENT 36 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR PAWNING A STOLEN LAPTOP. I got probation. I violated that probation by missing curfew and i went to prison. How do he and i live in the same world much less justice system? They failed OVER AND OVER here. This is incredible for me to see, and he’s not the only one. These extremely dangerous, violent offenders consistently get released or mere moments locked up & are handed their freedom to go hurt whoever they want - but non violent offenders get slammed. Supreme Court ruled that police are not required to provide aid to anyone, so idk why they do so to suspects who shot at them, even if it did go to civil Court, it would get tossed out because of the ruling

Jails and prisons are overcrowded, and the state/county/city wants that bail money. My ex-GF got arrested for driving on suspended license, no insurance, and speeding 30 over the limit, and they wouldn't give her a bond, but somebody else we knew had meth possession charge and like 8 Failure to Appear charges and they got a bond. And they also got out and proceeded to fail to appear in court.
"Our Court system is a mess", ... not really, what is lacking worldwide is immediate pre-trial detention, punishment must be immediate in order to have an "educational" effect, this also applies to lesser offenses such as theft and the like...

Just because she was with him does not mean she participated in his breaking the law. If you’re involved with an abusive person you are likely to just do what they tell you to do and it doesn’t necessarily mean that you want to do it. It’s easy to stand there in judgment when you don’t know all the facts.

The entire system is broken. It’s not just the bail system. A guy who is shooting at the police shouldn’t be on the streets. If he was just a car thief that would be different but he’s a violent thief and he belongs behind bars. The problem is people don’t want prisons in their back yards and states don’t want to spend the money to build more of them. Unfortunately they have it all backwards. Only violent people should be put in prison. That is a broad enough spectrum to cover many people in of itself. The rest of the people who commit crimes should be subject to a different type of punishment.

2500 criminals are sitting around on death row. Streamline the appeals process and those with undeniable proof should have 30 days to get their affairs in order. Spend the money on victims and not the crooks.

@@gsdalpha1358 If there was a cosigner involved, yes. And real estate is how that works. I'm not sure if there even was a cosigner in this case. There may not have been, if ol' boy had assets or investments, they might just let him sign for himself. In this case, where he died, there may be a release of liability clause, I'm just not familiar with the process/laws in Michigan. Where I'm from, the bondsman would not have to pursue the cosigner for the bail amount, it would simply go away and they get their money back because there's no longer a criminal case open against any defendant, therefore no monetary value to be had from pursuing them. It's much simpler that way. I know in other states they will pursue life insurance before they collect their collateral. Most bondsmen are pretty easy to work with as long as you're the cosigner. They're not out to hurt people, or make inordinate amounts of money (although they do), they make enough as it is and are frequently willing to work out deals and negotiate with cosigners in cases where a defendant dies.

This is outrageous. That damn judge needs to lose her job, like immediately after this second crime wave. How the hell could she let him go? This makes no sense! Thankfully, no officer or innocent bystander was killed, only him. I stayed in jail longer than this dude when someone else (not me) had drugs and paraphernalia in my car. Our stories matched that it was his, but still, they charged me with a felony complicit drug charge. I had to get an attorney to fight this nonsense which cost me several thousand bucks.

I yelled at him to drop the knife and he didnt. he came at me and i cought his hands at first but he got free and started stabbing me. I had a punctured lung and lost an unbelivable amount of blood. Somehow the paramedics got there fast and I lived obviously. We went to court over it and his father being a top surgeon in illinois was able to hire the best lawer money can buy. He was facing charges of 2 counts of battery with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and permanent disfigurment, maybe another charge idk. but his lawer made me seem like the bad guy and that it was ok he brought a knife because i was more muscular then him so it was for his defense. All he got charged with was 2 counts of battery with a deadly weapon and served no time. The guy has serious issues, hes the guy who was given a credit card with no llimit by his mom, but steals from stores and has stolen from me. Considering his family is more than well off his life is still probably going to be filled with vacations overseas and working for his dad. The guys name is Lucas Wagner btw idgaf anymore if you wanna look into it if its public. idk.

I know it sounds cruel, but nothing of value was lost here. He made his choices, and in the end those choices cost him his life. As someone who has been fighting illness to stay alive and lost a couple of loved ones to illness who were always willing to give anything to help those around them, its depressing to see people like this who throw away their health, their freedom, and the lives of those around them for nothing. The world becomes a slightly better place everytime one of these types of people shuffle off the mortal coil.

They should absolutely be thrown in the slammer for being, what I would consider IMHO, an accessory to murder/aggravated assault/carjacking or whatever the criminal does, IF THE JUDGE has proof that the criminal willingly did all of those things and then releases them anyway.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no Constitutional prohibition against suing judges. "Qualified immunity" is neither in the Constitution nor any amendment that came later. It was a legal fiction invented out of whole cloth in the 20th century because people started to notice shit like this.

The witness statements were unusually well communicated. They described what they saw, nothing more. No unnecessary emotion, no guessing at the motive, no apologizing for not recalling something. Good witness statements.

When I tell you that I met this character when I was in high school, he was a little older than me, but he was definitely one of those people that had a definite coldness to him, Crazy they let him out after shooting at them the first time. Even crazier that he actually stayed away from trouble somewhat from 2015-2020 than the some of the most reckless & careless shit I’ve ever seen at least in MN. Brodie honestly went out the way he wanted to. He said he don’t point unless to kill…. The police have that same right. Only difference is they have honor & something to lose. There was a kid like this in my high school who was already dealing with a vehicle theft conviction and on this path. Tried to act like the boss-man and throw things at me because he was bigger than me and thought he could get away with it without consequence. After 3 calm and entirely reasonable warnings from me that escalated into him throwing a book at my face, I slammed his head into his desk, threw a couple of elbows, and hit him in the kidneys so many times he could barely walk afterwards. He didn't even have time to stand up properly and mysteriously became a model citizen afterwards, at least at school. Unbridled physical force is the language they understand quite well. If they don't, you have not used enough of it. Meanwhile, I got a slap on the wrist because the staff knew _somebody_ was going to put him in his place. They were just shocked that it was me.
He thought he could get off easy again by shooting at and running from Police. This time they ended his crime spree for good. Sadly the courts failed miserably in this case.

In most states the courts are required by law to set bond, except in capital cases. And in some states bond has to be granted to even those charged with capital offenses - it's that way in my state, and killers are routinely out on bond. I suspect it's that way in this state. The judge did set a quarter-million dollar bond... she almost certainly had no authority to have him held until trial. The root problem is that neither the law or the activists care for the law-abiding or the innocent. The stars of the criminal justice system are the criminals. No one cares about your strangled child, but watch how everyone rushes to the rescue of the killer.

the jails are full. Several states are barely able to prosecute short of the most severe stuff. California for example as of 2017 their jails were 37% over-capacity (since then they released a lot of lower level offenders getting that down a bit but they are still way over). Other states are in similar boats. The jails were filled to the brim due to the war on drugs to where many even more severe offenders get released pretty early.

As a young adult i was arrested for driving without a license. I owed maybe 450$ and i couldnt find a bondsman anywhere because it was a cash bond. Now i understand not wanting to give up cash to let someone out you dont know. But to let a man out who shot at and attempted to kill police on a quarter million dollar bond that he wont even be able to pay in his lifetime is insanity.

It really depends on the state. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin have the most liberal bail laws in the world. You can shoot at cops in Minnesota and be walking the streets the next day. Most states have a bail schedule that judges must follow. It's hard to deny someone bail in a system that presumes innocence. And for every case like this where someone should be in jail, there are 15 people that can't make bail and shouldn't be in jail.

Supreme Court ruled that police are not required to provide aid to anyone, so idk why they do so to suspects who shot at them, even if it did go to civil Court, it would get tossed out because of the ruling

Jails and prisons are overcrowded, and the state/county/city wants that bail money. My ex-GF got arrested for driving on suspended license, no insurance, and speeding 30 over the limit, and they wouldn't give her a bond, but somebody else we knew had meth possession charge and like 8 Failure to Appear charges and they got a bond. And they also got out and proceeded to fail to appear in court.
How many lives did this man traumatize??? Our Court system is a mess.

The entire system is broken. It’s not just the bail system. A guy who is shooting at the police shouldn’t be on the streets. If he was just a car thief that would be different but he’s a violent thief and he belongs behind bars. The problem is people don’t want prisons in their back yards and states don’t want to spend the money to build more of them. Unfortunately they have it all backwards. Only violent people should be put in prison. That is a broad enough spectrum to cover many people in of itself. The rest of the people who commit crimes should be subject to a different type of punishment.

2500 criminals are sitting around on death row. Streamline the appeals process and those with undeniable proof should have 30 days to get their affairs in order. Spend the money on victims and not the crooks.

@@gsdalpha1358 If there was a cosigner involved, yes. And real estate is how that works. I'm not sure if there even was a cosigner in this case. There may not have been, if ol' boy had assets or investments, they might just let him sign for himself.
In this case, where he died, there may be a release of liability clause, I'm just not familiar with the process/laws in Michigan. Where I'm from, the bondsman would not have to pursue the cosigner for the bail amount, it would simply go away and they get their money back because there's no longer a criminal case open against any defendant, therefore no monetary value to be had from pursuing them. It's much simpler that way.
I know in other states they will pursue life insurance before they collect their collateral. Most bondsmen are pretty easy to work with as long as you're the cosigner. They're not out to hurt people, or make inordinate amounts of money (although they do), they make enough as it is and are frequently willing to work out deals and negotiate with cosigners in cases where a defendant dies.

I stayed in jail longer than this dude when someone else (not me) had drugs and paraphernalia in my car. Our stories matched that it was his, but still, they charged me with a felony complicit drug charge. I had to get an attorney to fight this nonsense which cost me several thousand bucks.
As a victim who never got Justice for their attacker, I can say the justice system does indeed suck.

I yelled at him to drop the knife and he didnt. he came at me and i cought his hands at first but he got free and started stabbing me. I had a punctured lung and lost an unbelivable amount of blood. Somehow the paramedics got there fast and I lived obviously. We went to court over it and his father being a top surgeon in illinois was able to hire the best lawer money can buy. He was facing charges of 2 counts of battery with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and permanent disfigurment, maybe another charge idk. but his lawer made me seem like the bad guy and that it was ok he brought a knife because i was more muscular then him so it was for his defense. All he got charged with was 2 counts of battery with a deadly weapon and served no time. The guy has serious issues, hes the guy who was given a credit card with no llimit by his mom, but steals from stores and has stolen from me. Considering his family is more than well off his life is still probably going to be filled with vacations overseas and working for his dad. The guys name is Lucas Wagner btw idgaf anymore if you wanna look into it if its public. idk.
Imagine living in a state where you can do all of this and never getting any serious jail time. If living a regular, law-abiding life stops working for me, I'm moving to MN.

As someone who has been fighting illness to stay alive and lost a couple of loved ones to illness who were always willing to give anything to help those around them, its depressing to see people like this who throw away their health, their freedom, and the lives of those around them for nothing.

I've seen dozens of cases like this, people commit major crimes and get a slap on the wrist in return. If our system worked we wouldn't have these people endangering our lives after being convicted.
It's time to amend the Constitution so these judges can be (at minimum) sued. Preferably also voted out of their jobs.

Nah nah nah. THIS level of incompetence should be mandatory arrest. If a judge can be thrown in the slammer for DUI? They should absolutely be thrown in the slammer for being, what I would consider IMHO, an accessory to murder/aggravated assault/carjacking or whatever the criminal does, IF THE JUDGE has proof that the criminal willingly did all of those things and then releases them anyway.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no Constitutional prohibition against suing judges. "Qualified immunity" is neither in the Constitution nor any amendment that came later. It was a legal fiction invented out of whole cloth in the 20th century because people started to notice shit like this.
If you're amending the Constitution, you'd have to take out that pesky 8th amendment which guarantees bail first. Because that's why people get bail.

There was a kid like this in my high school who was already dealing with a vehicle theft conviction and on this path. Tried to act like the boss-man and throw things at me because he was bigger than me and thought he could get away with it without consequence. After 3 calm and entirely reasonable warnings from me that escalated into him throwing a book at my face, I slammed his head into his desk, threw a couple of elbows, and hit him in the kidneys so many times he could barely walk afterwards. He didn't even have time to stand up properly and mysteriously became a model citizen afterwards, at least at school. Unbridled physical force is the language they understand quite well. If they don't, you have not used enough of it. Meanwhile, I got a slap on the wrist because the staff knew _somebody_ was going to put him in his place. They were just shocked that it was me.
He thought he could get off easy again by shooting at and running from Police. This time they ended his crime spree for good. Sadly the courts failed miserably in this case.
Very sad to see how hesitant these officers are because they don’t want to get charged for just doing their jobs and protecting others and themselves. Plus the justice system didn’t do anything for justice besides endangering more innocent people by letting him bail out over and over again.

The politicians, judges and lawyers keep putting these police officers and the innocent public back at risk because they can’t create proper laws, and enforce them in a way that really deters this kind of behavior.
The only thing that will deter crime is a cage. Laws are only written so government has a way to punish bad behavior. How many times have you heard “There’s no law against it” ? That just shows they don’t care about right and wrong unless it’s punishable. Criminals don’t care about laws. They do what they want to do. They don’t care about prison. Prison is viewed as a badge of honor. One act of violence that may likely or possibly cause death or great bodily harm should be treated severely. The first time should be the last time. The penalty should be life in prison. Why wait until a person has been murdered to take action to prevent it? The people of Wisconsin are just lucky this maniac didn’t kill anyone. Good riddance.

These videos make me simultaneously glad that we've got great officers who will go out and apprehend the worst of the worst, and also filled with anger at how much of a joke our "justice" system is. We need far harsher punishments in place. Too many times I'll see heinous crimes committed, and the judge/prosecutor gives them a slap on the wrist. Life without parole really is the answer for repeat felons imo.
