It took my lovely angel wife-my world away August 9 2018 6:58AM. It played an unfair game masking itself and being misdiagnosed. Our 39 years of marriage and 44 years of love (from HS sweethearts who never lost our undying love) just robbed! She/we never saw it coming and when she was shockingly diagnose only 3 days before our daughters wedding (that she missed) she got 2 months! We got 2 months! This after we had retired me at 64 / Terry 62 and her going onto disability for her bad back. Yes this evil monster hid itself as a bad back! Please dont ignore any signs -always get another opinion before its too late and force your Dr to think and look "outside the box". God Bless all who are fighting this thief of life.

I'm a cancer survivor from Brazil and just saw this powerful advert. The sensation is exactly like this. It's wonderful to know there is a place where people can ask for help and support. Great job!

As a cancer survivor (so far), the sentiment WILL help. Being in the 'cancer club' isn't where anyone wants to be and it can be a lonely place

Last year’s advertisement was one of the most complained about. This is little better. We already know cancer is terrible and can hit anyone. Macmillan doesn’t need to fuel people’s fears in this way. I’m currently undergoing chemotherapy. Cancer is a disease I’m unlucky to have. The treatment is worse than the disease and I’m grateful for the support I’ve had from Macmillan. But I don’t want to be portrayed in such a negative way. People do get better. People can be optimistic and positive, even when they are going through hell. Macmillan isn’t allowing for that. Another thumbs down - perhaps a change of advertising agency is called for?

    • @macmillancancer
      @macmillancancer  5 лет назад +2

Hi, thank you for your feedback and for letting me know about your diagnosis. I’m glad you’ve had a positive experience of our services and hope your chemotherapy is going as well as it can. If you do ever want any more information or support please do call our Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm).
I’m very sorry that you found our advert to be too negative. Unfortunately, many people still see Macmillan only for those in desperate need or at the end of their life, and are not accessing the support available to them. As such we need to show some of the struggles that resonate with the people we are here to help, and effectively convey our message that whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you. We really do value your feedback and I have recorded it for review.
      Thanks, Matt

I'm sorry, but this advert really upsets me in that my Husband is 16 months into regression from a rare and aggressive cancer and doing well from his positive attitude throughout his operations and intensive radiotherapy. I find myself turning the sound down or switching to another channel when this comes on, as do you really think people who are suffering with this evil disease and trying to carry on want to hear or be reminded that "Cancer doesn't care about you" "Cancer doesn't care about your job" "Cancer has no sympathy" "Cancer doesn't care if you're broke" I just feel that this advert is the last thing cancer sufferers want to hear and SO demoralising!! Just saying...

Hi Karen. I’m sorry you found our advert upsetting. Thank you for making me aware of your husband’s diagnosis. I’m glad he’s still keeping a positive attitude throughout his treatment. I want you to know that if either of you ever want any information or a chat, we are here to help. You can call our Support Line for free on 0808 808 00 00 (7 days a week, 8am-8pm).
We created our adverts in this way as many people still think we only offer end of life care. We wanted to show the different ways how cancer may affect people & that our physical, emotional & financial support services can help. We never want to upset anyone that we are here to support, so we tested the advert with people living with and affected by cancer, Macmillan professionals, supporters, volunteers and staff. As they were very positive, we went ahead with the campaign. Despite this I know our adverts affect everyone differently and I apologise again for how it made you feel. Thanks for your feedback, Matt

@@macmillancancer Hi Matt I appreciate you have to emphasise and advertise the wonderful work you do and really don't like to complain, perhaps it's just that we maybe a bit more sensitive with being in the thick of this evil disease and thank you for your feedback. Just to let you know that we did have some positive news from the Consultant today in that the tumour hasn't grown back and they're really pleased with his progress, so we can at least relax for another six months until the next monitoring. Thank you again for your response and kind words

Hi Suzan, I’m very sorry you found our advert to be negative. We need to advertise as many people with cancer aren’t aware of what support we offer. That’s why our message to people who relate to the issues in the ad is, whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you. We don’t want to upset anyone that we are here to support, so we tested the advert with key audiences including people living with cancer. As they were positive we went ahead with the campaign. Again, I am sorry for any upset caused. Thank you for feedback, Matt

@@macmillancancer It is a shame that you could not support me when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2011...I was told that Macmillan do not support people with cancer that do not follow barbaric conventional treatment. I was asked why having a breast removed was such an issue. But it's only when you hear that 11,000 women suffered conventional treatment under the knife of Ian Patterson. I would say we are just people to support who have reservations about these types of psychopath's who call themselves breast surgeons. I needed support and Macmillan simply refused to help me. Like the advert says cancer is cancer...but if one doesn't take the next step and really scare themselves with 'shots in the dark' treatment, my cancer doesn't matter.

      Hi Suzan,
I am sorry to hear that you did not get the support you needed from us at a time you really needed it. I would like to better understand your experience, so I hope you do not mind me asking, who it was that you spoke to regarding Macmillan Support? Was there any particular support you were needing or are still in need of Suzan? If you wish to contact feedback@macmillan.org.uk we can look into your experience and discuss this with you.
      Best wishes, Megan

I have to agree with Suzan - this is a very negative advert and the music is very ominous. I think it triggers already emotionally vulnerable people to a place of further emotional isolation.

    • @macmillancancer

Hi there - I’m sorry you’ve found our advert negative, this isn’t our intention. We are conveying how it can feel to experience the many different challenges a cancer diagnosis can bring. We realise the not all of the depictions will be true of everyone; we researched our idea and consulted a wide range from our target audiences who agreed that the advert resonated in portraying accurate representations of how it can feel to experience a cancer diagnosis.
Our research revealed only 55% of people at the point of diagnosis think Macmillan is able to offer them any help or is relevant to them; too many people living with cancer are not getting the support they need right now and remain unaware of the range of help Macmillan can offer. Therefore, we felt it was important to showcase the range of services Macmillan can provide at what can be a very difficult time. It’s a tricky balance and I’m sorry for any upset caused.
