According to the BBC History magazine (in), "There were 53 major conflicts in Europe. France has been a belligerent in 49 of them, and in the UK 43. Among the battles that France has delivered over the past 800 years 185 his armies have won 132 of them, and have lost 43, leaving only 10 battles undecided. False false and false. France had a natural defensinve strategic advantage, an awesome maginot line to support its defense, numerical and technological armored divisions superiority, an actual navy, huge number of colonies permanently bringing resources to mainland, lend lease, commercial and military aid from UK, Netherlands and Belgium. And it felt in 1 month against a humiliated Germany, who had to pay a colossal tribute during the republic time, whose army was reduced to 100.000, also losing 1/8 of population and territory in the previous war(at the peace treaty!) and whose only significant advantage was the aerial combat(and even there, the uk had comparable technology and numbers). So, what is your excuse for surrendering, le baguette?

Did anyone ever tell you before that all those wars Napoleon fought in weren't started by him but by his enemies? Do you know anything about the French revolution and what it caused to the rest of the monarchs in Europe? Do even know what a coalition is? You still have the nerve to come up and shout up shit thinking they're undisputable facts. It seems the finger that's pointing at me is itself covered with filth.
It's all relative mate, France should be seen as a hero to the french people. France post-revolution was in shambles and they had many enemies since all the monarchs felt threatened of france's new libertarian ways. (And in fact france was already at war with austria in Italy before Napoleon was even in power) So we can hardly say napoleon caused those wars. HIm coming back from exile is an exception since the whole of europe actually declared war on him, not France. But tbh, the only reason he came back was that the monarchy in france was unpopular and everyone in france wanted him back. We can argue that without Napoleon, there wouldn't be a france as we know it, and there certainly wouldn't be Europe as we know it. He's the one who first brought the continent together, coming up with the metric system, he even wanted to make them all have the same money. I don't deny that Napoleon has done some bad, after all every world leader has. But imo he's done more good than bad, especially for France. And that is why, yes, he can and should be seen as a hero to this day. At least to the french people.
DBeiki Great reply! Just want to add that without his unprecendented measures to emancipate the minorities in his Empire like the Jews, show tolerance and high respect towards Islam, become a strong patron of Science and Mathematics to oversee the greatest generation of European thinkers before the Quantum Era began, realise the importance of cultural, linguistic and national identity to directly or indirectly create nations like Italy, Poland, Germany, all of Europe, not only France, would be in a worse condition today
Thank you for summarizing the video in such a short time! I am glad you mentioned the after effects of the wars. I was having trouble finding the results of the war in Europe and overall how it impacted the world during my research. Thank you again and I love how you present your educational videos. :)

@@SamAronowSweden was fine with the weather, and Russians suffered the winter alot as well, it's a stupid stereotype that Russian winter defeates everyone. Who beat Russia in WW1? Germany. Who destroyed an almost 4 times larger and fortified Russian army, during a winter (and huge snow storm) in Narva, modern day Estonia? Sweden. Who captured Moscow, gave a string of defeats to Russia? Napoleon Bonaparte I and the French. The French did not retreat from Russia because of winter. The retreat started months before winter. The winter just made the retreat more harsh. The French during their time in Russia, were harassed by partisans and the Cossacks, when they were also very low on supplies. Many people who actually study history and not just watch inaccurate memes, are sick of People who say Russian winter this and Russian winter that. Finnish Patriot Swedes were not fine with the weather. They lost thousands upon thousands of men due to the Great Frost. It was a considerable setback to King Charles XII military ambitions.

7:02-7:03 Is no one gonna talk about ABBA in the bottom left corner? Their song is literally called "Waterloo" and the first two verses of the song are "Alright, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender..." There's even a scene in Mamma Mia 2 where Hugh Skinner as Harry Bright hides behind a statue of Napoleon and waves a white cloth!! Not to mention an ending scene in the prequel (before credits) where everyone sings "Waterloo"!!
So...Let me see if i get this right, europe and russia needed to make 4 coalitions JUST to destroy france... and they only won thanks to terrain advantages and numbers pretty much...right?
HankproBR they needed 6 coalitions just to defeat him. I don't really wanna consider those coalition bastards being the winner cause Napoleon beated them from 1st-4th or 5th coalition, so overall France is the winner.

Spain was hesitant in joining the war since they fought a huge civil war in the late 30s. Spain was also not very United initially after the fascist regime took power.
Alex Roberto poor as shit because of the civil war, country without a strong sense of national identity unlike other powers, world war ii would have seriously fucked them over
RyanIsWatching lel Russia never defeated France? If I'm not mistaken, after 1812, Czar Alexander I myself led the sixth coalition to fight the French, and guess where we ended in? That's right, Paris. The imperial Russian army captured France in 1814 and resulted in Napoleon being exiled to Elba! The Russians won the French by force!
evan nesbitt sorry my english is not perfect yet, I mean "keep your anger toward Russian for yourself". I think it's a very interesting and controversial part of the cold war and could be a nice video.

@Roman Dubrovin yeah it took Napoléon 1 week to arrive in Russia -_-. Are you stupid ? He arrived and he left Russia in october-november, the comeback was during a hard winter. Russia does not say it but its hidden weapon is winter

(And in fact france was already at war with austria in Italy before Napoleon was even in power)
So we can hardly say napoleon caused those wars.

Great reply!
John D Ruddy, I love your videos they are very short yet informative also enjoy the style that you make your videos in
Thank you for summarizing the video in such a short time! I am glad you mentioned the after effects of the wars. I was having trouble finding the results of the war in Europe and overall how it impacted the world during my research. Thank you again and I love how you present your educational videos. :)

I'm overall very pleased with the maps in this one! Probably the most complex I've done yet!

Napoleon Bonaparte I and the French. The French did not retreat from Russia because of winter. The retreat started months before winter. The winter just made the retreat more harsh. The French during their time in Russia, were harassed by partisans and the Cossacks, when they were also very low on supplies. AMAZING VIDEO! I LOVE IT! However at 1:03 you show Napoleon coming into the Americas and then offering the USA the Louisiana purchase DURING the revolutionary war. However the Louisiana purchase came after the revolutionary war when the USA was expanding. Keep up the good work man! I love this!

So...Let me see if i get this right, europe and russia needed to make 4 coalitions JUST to destroy france... and they only won thanks to terrain advantages and numbers pretty much...right?
6 coalitions, not 4
Europe needed 6 coalitions to defeat France and 2 World wars to defeat Germany
HankproBR they needed 6 coalitions just to defeat him. I don't really wanna consider those coalition bastards being the winner cause Napoleon beated them from 1st-4th or 5th coalition, so overall France is the winner.

I would like to learn more about my country since I haven't leanrt much of it cause of how Canadian history is pretty much forgotten.

CV9 i would as well, I was born in Alberta, but lived in Australia for so long i only know little history of my birth place so yes it would be very grand if he did a video on it
There isn't that much that history class schools in my area.and Canadian history is more ww1 and ww2 it is very rich history.
Hi Rud :)
Can you tell me why Spain in WW2 don't fight ?
There were allies with nazi Germany since Spain was fascist under general Franco
Spain was hesitant in joining the war since they fought a huge civil war in the late 30s. Spain was also not very United initially after the fascist regime took power.
Alex Roberto poor as shit because of the civil war, country without a strong sense of national identity unlike other powers, world war ii would have seriously fucked them over
Alex Roberto Britain threatened to blockade Spanish ports if they joined the Axis forces.
Alex Roberto Francisco Franco was a shrewder leader than Hitler and Mussoline were.
Russia never defeated france
it was the weather that did.
RyanIsWatching No. The Russian did defeat Frqnce. They burn Moscow and Jungles.
Adam Hope How does throwing a match at their own fucking capital count as a victory?
RyanIsWatching It's called a Strategy.
Adam Hope Throwing a match at a french occupied place is "strategy"?
RyanIsWatching lel Russia never defeated France? If I'm not mistaken, after 1812, Czar Alexander I myself led the sixth coalition to fight the French, and guess where we ended in? That's right, Paris. The imperial Russian army captured France in 1814 and resulted in Napoleon being exiled to Elba! The Russians won the French by force!

evan nesbitt sorry my english is not perfect yet, I mean "keep your anger toward Russian for yourself". I think it's a very interesting and controversial part of the cold war and could be a nice video.
evan nesbitt How is that a provocation?. So nobody can talk about that because the USA lose.

Russias best weapon
The winter
@Roman Dubrovin yeah it took Napoléon 1 week to arrive in Russia -_-. Are you stupid ? He arrived and he left Russia in october-november, the comeback was during a hard winter. Russia does not say it but its hidden weapon is winter
@@Unpseudopascommelesautres Oh! It looks very weird when man who can not google trying to talk about history. Main battle of this was Borodino was on 26 of August. Napoleon started invasion to Russia on 24 of June. Last battle in Russian territory - Berezino(when French army was already collapsed) was on 26 of November. It is important that Nepoleon had to force this river because it wasn't frozen - coevals of this war noticed unusually warm Autumn.
@@РоманДубровин-л9м Battle of Moskova : french victoy. Date : 7 september of 1812
On the way back from Russia, the winter was rough, in addition to starving the Grande Armée, winter did not help things. The Russians took the opportunity to attack the French army, very weakened by winter and hunger.
@@Unpseudopascommelesautres 1. Wow! Somehow Frenches had battle of "Moskova" on September despite the "fact" that "He arrived in Russia in october-november". It's amazing!!)
2. You must understand context to discuss this topic. There wasn't any battle of Moscow, Moscow was left without battle. Battle was on Borodino. It was two way victory because goal of Kutusov was to hold Napoleon while Moscow was being prepared for surrender, goal of Napoleon was simply get field. He used vantage of long distances, partizans and terrible French supply. If it were not for the tsar's mistakes, then this battle could not have been at all, as Kutuzov had planned. If you will google way of invasion you will see that Kutusov led Napoleon by one way and turn him back by absolute same way without chances to get food and arsenal from another cities. It is example of genious maneurus.
