- It’s a look inside the store where George Floyd was shopping just before his tragic death. Jamar Nelson is a spokesman for Cups Foods and gave Inside Edition a tour. Owner Mahmoud Abumayyaleh says he wants the world to know he’s heartbroken that what happened inside the store led to Floyd’s horrific death. He says the clerk working that day was inexperienced and called police when their money counting machine flagged the $20 bill Floyd used as counterfeit after he’d left the store. #InsideEdition

I worked for a McDonalds and a Bank in my ancient history. We were told if we received a counterfeit bill, keep it and call the police. That was before you could print bills at home on your inkjet printer.

That’s what I was thinking. If they ran it thru the scanner it’s done before handing over merchandise or before person leaves. Then he just so happened to be still parked across the street from the store where the clerk approached him told him it’s fake 20 and return cigs but he refused. Then he still there long enough for cops to show up. Does any of that make sense?

Apparently they did run it through and George left with the cigarettes, so he went after him and George refused to return the cigarettes for the $20. So it ended up in the police being called, so no one seems faultless in my opinion but totally not worth losing a human life over ofc.

Its not pretty, I can tell you that. I'm not saying what he did was right, all I'm saying is that he pled guilty on all accounts, did his time, got clean from drugs, and left everyone and everything he knew to start a new life. Ill commend him for stepping up to his mistakes and coming out a better person in the end.

as a banker I can tell you those cash counters do not always detect a counterfeit bill, the bill could be too old or faded to read, so you must be able to verify a real or fake bill yourself not just rely solely on a cash counter

in all fairness the guy who called the police only did that after walking up to Floyds blue SUV to let him know it was a fake $20 and the three people in the vehicle waved him away. The young worker walked back to the store and called the police since it is his job to report criminal activity. In that call he let dispatch know that Floyd was under the influence and not in control of himself....
It has came to light that he wasnt drunk when he was murdered, he was high on meth and fentanyl. So back to what you were saying, it could have been avoided if the bill was checked while he was in the store or he just gave the cigarettes back BUT like this video said, there's a lot of fake money and he MAY NOT have known or maybe he didnt care beacuse of the drugs he was on. If you have no idea what im talking about look up the full clip showing 1 camera from a building and 3 or 4 other cell phones. Be warned though, those last moments will make you sick.
