    Question...Unfortunately, I will have to switch my current career and I've been looking into medical billing and coding for some time now. I can't really afford to pay for classes. Do you think I can pass the class just by watching your videos and having some knowledge of medical terminology? I have all three books already as well for 2024.

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  2 месяца назад +1

      It's highly unlikely to pass the certification exams relying solely on my videos and your current books. While having the code books and some medical terminology knowledge is helpful, they don't teach coding fundamentals comprehensively. You'll need structured coursework and textbooks to fully grasp the necessary skills. My videos can complement your studies, but they're not a substitute for a formal course.

    So question, will it be spilt up into sections or are you just going to have to know by the codes provided? And will there be any back and forth if you are taking it remotely? Also, can you skip a question and come back to it or you have to answer it right then?

    • @ContempoCoding

      You can move around the exam and none of the questions are labeled by section.

    What if you have taken a class m, got a certificate of completion but you did not finish paying for the class? Basically you finish the class before you’re done making the payments. Will that hinder you from being able to take the test?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  7 месяцев назад

      It won't hinder your ability to take the test, but you may run into issues when you want to get your apprentice status removed and need the paperwork from them. Or you just have to wait until you have enough job experience to remove the apprentice status.

    I took my this today March 2024 at testing facility .
    The computer testing threw me off . You answer one question at a time. Can’t skip the hard questions and go back. You can forget that strategy. You can’t even tell what number question you’re on. So my timing was off.
    I wish it let me see if I’m on question 50 and there’s 2 hours left. I would know I’m on a decent pace.
    I wish I could skip the harder questions and go straight to the easier questions. Hcpcs and lab and pathology was at the end of my test which I rushed through.
    Paper test would be much easier since we would be able to highlight or underline key words. Skip through any questions and go back to the harder ones later. Mark an X to Eliminate answers choices we know are not correct.
    Messsge me if you have any questions about the exam.

    Also I'm just reading the Prohibited Items list and it includes "Personal writing utensils such as pencils, pens, and highlighters" Also just learning that ALL are now on electronic (thanks to this video) (no more paper!) How in the world can we highlight and mark out important information????????? Help!!!! How do you get practice with the exam software??????

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  8 месяцев назад

      Absolutely, the CPC exam is indeed an open book test, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a walk in the park! It's a challenging exam that requires a solid understanding of medical coding concepts, guidelines, practices, as well as anatomy and terminology. Being a member and paying the fee is just the start. You'll need to dive deep into the study materials, get a good grasp of the coding systems, and practice a lot to navigate through those books efficiently during the exam. It's all about how well you understand and apply the knowledge, not just having it at your fingertips.

      You can use one prior calendar year's books or current year. There is no variance by state as this is not a state exam or state board, it is a certification exam. Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance:

      @@ContempoCoding Thanks for reply! Well, I certainly do not know what the ratios of credentialed coders from AHIMA vs AAPC - but AHIMA has been around since early 1900s credentialing HIT experts including coders. I know things have changed but back in the day - it was only AHIMA and only RHIT and RHIAs that were doing the coding. I could be wrong, but it seems like if you incorporated the CCS-P into your studies -- you could DOUBLE DIP on both credentials! ;-) And considering they are both about the same -- pretty much the same content except when it comes to the testing component -- such as this video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! ;-)

      To learn medical coding, I recommend the Step-by-Step medical coding books by Bucks:
      You will also need a CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM book as those are the coding books required.
      2024 CPT - amzn.to/3vdquX3
      2024 ICD-10-CM - amzn.to/483TsHv
      2024 HCPCS - amzn.to/47eHjOz
      Step-By-Step Medical Coding Textbook 2024 - amzn.to/48vfkLG
      Step-By-Step Medical Coding Workbook 2024 - amzn.to/41DaxFI

      The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. So, even though ICD-10-CM codes might update on October 1st, those changes won't show up in the exam until the new year rolls around. 🗓️
