Would love to get your thoughts on when the “safe choice” goes wrong, how do you respond? I’ve been struggling with this lately. For example, picking 5W when the driver isn’t behaving and then topping my 5W 80 yards - it can derail a round.
That's a hard one David. I've done the same. I guess my reaction to it depends on whether I'm playing the sunday comp or just knocking it round after work. I use my after work rounds to figure out what I will attempt on the weekend. If I'm sticking it in the trees on the second then mid week I might go to the other side of the tee box, change clubs and try and hit a big hook or something. What do you do when you don't trust any club off the tee? Get the round done and go have a lesson and try to smile. Golf will kick us hard at times. The other week I had a great front 9 in the competition and threw in 2 doubles on the back and shot 76. Golf just kicks us when it feels like it.
@@thehairygolfer yeah you're right, I think I need to just accept it will happen, finish the round, and go work on the clubs that are letting me down. And if I need to, pull out the 7i off the tee to prevent a round going completely down the toilet.
@@thewzrdharry I played this morning. Back was really stiff so the swing was lift and chop - not much turn. You just try and stay out of trouble and get it round. I was down to hitting 4 iron off the tee just to get it out there. Strangely I hit it well and Iwouldn't normally call my 4 iron the reliable club in my bag. Golf is strange.
Sorry Joey. The white tees are 6212 yards par 69 with a stroke rating of 70.6 so it's judged to be a hard track because you can be in the fairway and still blocked out from going to the green. Off the fairway, especially the front 9 you are playing some sort of recovery shot. The tees are never on their back stops so probably 6050 on the day. There abouts I guess. The white tees on 17 are back at 214 but they don't use that tee very often. Thank goodness! Essentially if you stretched 3 holes to make a par 72 it would be about 6550 - round figures ish. Hope that helps.
Cheers. There was some luck on that back 9. Don't often find 15 in 2 or par the 17th or get 2 birds. But we all need luck from time to time. 75 - 77 would be more like my score with a card in my hand. Nice to have a good one to show off for a change!

It's longer than some par 71's I've played for sure. I guess that is why the stroke rating is 70.6 I just wish I could use my driver a bit more, without fear.
I played away recently and used the driver 12 times and enjoyed opening the shoulders a bit and letting it all hang out. Cheers Snowman.
Golf is strange.
what tee's/yardage are you playing?
What a Playa
Cheers. There was some luck on that back 9. Don't often find 15 in 2 or par the 17th or get 2 birds. But we all need luck from time to time. 75 - 77 would be more like my score with a card in my hand. Nice to have a good one to show off for a change!
