The moment i saw the film "Arrival" i felt that the environment took a deep influence over me, but the sound is absolutely intriguing and misterious. For the winner i was expecting was between in "Hacksaw ridge" and "La La Land", but im glad this result.
They used a lot of earth and rock sounds for the Heptapod's ships, making it feel like a very natural, almost ethereal atmosphere surrounding the spacecraft. The sound of the Heptapods themselves were unique- very much aquatic and underwater like (whales, orcas, Cthulhu etc.) Made them feel otherworldly and like a truly alien species. Absolutely love this film 👌🏾

Agreed. What Joe Walker did to cut the film in a way to allow the twist to land was remarkable. Dealing with the element of time in a non-linear way is never easy and he nailed it.

A lot of these films are starting to become 'Oscar' bait, but I believe Arrival was the exception. Interstellar (a superior film to The Martian and Gravity IMO) should've at least received a Best Pic nod and nominations for Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain. Sigourney Weaver should've won for Aliens, Star Wars should've won Best Picture. I could go on. For some reason, there's a stigma that sci fi can't shake in terms of the Oscars. And yes, Amy Adams should've gotten a bloody nomination for Arrival. Academy, you got it wrong! Although I believe that an Adams nomination would've thrown a monkey wrench into Emma Stone's coronation. Don't get me wrong, I love Emma Stone, but Amy Adams is long overdue and Arrival is her best role yet. That film was going to live or die by her performance.
