Good video about a very important topic. Many of the health problems seen in our modern world can be traced back to our diet, for sure. Lastly, a lot of these compounds may be carcinogenic or harmful in animal studies when given at very high doses. But at the levels put in foods, they could be completely safe. I had these warts growing on my hand, I went carnivore for a bit to clean up my diet, and slowly I've added in things that feel great for me, mostly whole and healthier foods. After about a year, those warts have disappeared off my hand. Kinda crazy.
I think you mean ultra processed foods. We all eat processed foods and have been doing so for millennia. But UPFs are only a few decades old and the extent of their baleful effects on health became conclusive in the last few years. But thank you for highlighting this crucial issue!
That was a long scary list 😅 Recently, I noticed the coconut milk I regularly buy, has a thick and consistent texture and it doesn't separate when it's in the fridge. I checked the E numbers and apparently they started adding Xanthan and Guar gum to it. Then I noticed there's more packaged foods that are utilizing them. This is in Germany. It's worrying how these additives are creeping up everywhere. Makes me want to only buy from the fresh section and not anything that's packaged or has more ingredients list than the item itself. Living alone makes it much harder to cook, but it's an effort to have a healthier life.
Thank You - I find your pod cast very beneficial! From the benefit’s of Sauna use and the benefit’s of exercise and the importance of protein intake. Keep up the outstanding work!!!
I went canivore and it completely changed my life. No sugar and no carbs. Even if people don't want to go carnivore cut out the sugar and processed food and eat whole foods.
As a fellow nutrition scientist, I came to this video seeking vindication and instead found it to be meandering and lacking in quality evidence. If we are going to win the fight against these companies, we NEED to do better. Saying "X has been linked to cancer" or focusing on correlative studies is really pretty meaningless when we both know that could just mean in vitro studies that are not necessarily clinically meaningful. We can't be critical of those who argue red meat is bad for you on the basis of low quality epidemiological and rodent model studies, and then turn around and use that same approach against ultra-processed foods.
Hard to get high quality human studies done in nutrition, as fast as I know the only way to be certain someone is sticking to a controlled diet is to have them kept in a metabolic ward with access only to the food prepared in a controlled way by the research group. Besides which, the money for funding these studies is all in the hands of those with a vested interest in maintaining the very profitable status quo and don't want these studies done.
Not surprised at all to hear this. Most of what I buy are ingredients to prepare things myself, and it’s hard enough for me to even find high quality ingredients in this country
I work in logistics chain supply and see warehouses built all over the world, and continuing being built, ultra processed foods are going to be more and more prevalent in our food supply
My optometrist believes that too much processed foods combined with too much screen time on the smart phone is causing kids to become more nearsighted at younger ages and making it worse in adults also. He told me the American diet no longer consists of enough fruits and green vegetables.

The people who eat processed foods, at least the worst kinds, do not seek content like this. It's as much of an addiction as anything, many people would not know what to do with good advice, sadly. As much as I would love to see this country get healthy and way less fat, I have my doubts about any forthcoming change.
You claim that people who are addicted to processed foods choose to be ignorant of healthy eating. Then you say that many people do not heed good advice. Which is it, are they unaware of better practices of eating or are they choosing to ignore it? Part of your statement also makes it sound like the addiction willfully prevents people from learning about healthy eating... What a strange comment and even stranger that people are giving it a thumbsup lol
@@user-e7xn4q I mean look around. Do you see a public that cares much about healthy eating? It's a combination of things... addictive quality of bad food, laziness, not taking responsibility for themselves, and not listening to people with good advice. You didn't seem like you had any intention of making an actual point, so I'll leave it at that.
This raises so many questions that just cannot be answered, but how about this one. Drinking out of yeti vs plastic - can you tell us anything about evidence of benefits? What happens to water that arrives in plastic containers that is then transferred to glass or other inert containers. Do we know anything?
PBA is one of the who knows how many chemicals in plastic. I don't think it can be avoided, nor do I think it's reasonable to try, with one exception, cooking. I avoid heating or cooking anything in the microwave with plastic. I use frozen veggies, but I remove them from the bag and cook in ceramic covered dishes. Hopeful that helps, but who knows really.
Rhonda. Additives are everywhere it seems. We buy beef on sale, freeze it in portions, and use our kitchen aid grinder to reduce the meat after thawing to hamburger. Then make meat loaf or just patties. Our top concern is water. Even distilled. Topic there is nanoplastic content. So now we bought water distillers from Amazon. We reduced but cannot eliminate additives. Any suggestions on doing more?
I agree that a whole food diet is the best way. I’ve been wfpb since I turned 50, no hot flashes, nothing at all. Feeling good inside and out, it works.
Firstly with the state of mind is dump the TV and mainstream media. Very difficult to eat clean. Most likely make the best of a bad thing. One rule we try to adhere to is if it comes in a packet try and avoid it. Only oils we use are olive oils or if needed a little butter from the local farm. Very hard to be properly clean with your consumption of anything. We often carry out five days of fasting. Water only. Amazing how great you feel with no food 😂.
The only thing I'm a little confused about is the plastic water bottles and drinking out of a different container. Where is the water out of the yeti cup coming from?
All of the above mentioned packaged foods here on every supermarket shelves contains these chemicals whether from American processed food giants or foreign made, it's unfortunate anything that goes through any processing causes long term chronic health issues...
There's a huge problem with supplements and medications as they often contain additives that you can't avoid, like titanium dioxide, artificial flavors and colors, sugars, sweeteners.
Processed food manufacturers need to hear from consumers that less ADDED chemicals, sugar, oil and salt is wanted in their food products. Why is there so much ADDED sugar in everything, even bread. That's just crazy Email, text, tweet or phone your favorite producer of poison and let them know consumers want less salt, oils and sugars in their products. Let their customer service department know that all the extra added salt, oil and sugar is not necessary or desired and is causing health issues. Reduce or eliminate highly processed food from your diet if you can.
You are mistaken that consumers don't want them. They make the food tastier and last longer. This increases demand for the products. Think about it: adding things makes the product more expensive, not less. So clearly, if it adds to the cost, then the only way a profit-oriented firm would go for it, is if adding those things increased the demand for them. Now you might not want them. And neither do I. But the general population is either ignorant or is willing to sacrifice well-being for taste and having a longer expiry date on their food.
@@mrmacguffin6886 If the consumers don't know they are there how do you know they want them? If they are ignorant and think it's just food, how do you know they know that it's the chemicals doing it and not just thinking that's how it taste?
The first one should be seed oils then sugar then bleached flour Regarding cured meats you see other information suggesting that the nitrates and nitrites are precursors to nitric oxide and they're identical compounds found in vegetables and are praised for their benefits, and when you claim ohh its the antioxidants in plants that block nitrosamines we ignore the fact that those plant compounds are not very bioavailable I'm not convinced, as long as someone keeps telling me to eat LEAN meat, I know they don't truly understand science and the vast importance of healthy animal fats and I don't put a lot of weight on their discussions, bc they don't seem to understand the importance of insulin anytime I hear lean meat I know they are a high carb believer and a proponent of the starvation diet with lots of colorful plants and carbs bc where are you going to get your healthy fats with lean meat that's just nonsense and easy to see through Sorry but I've heard her opinions on carnivore and I'm not really impressed with her science It seems to be all epidemiology based and that's just problematic when you want to form solid causation like quoting places with the most centurions lol turns out a lot of the deaths in these places go unreported
Agreed, you should have a RUclips channel, very articulately described. I tend to listen to all the experts and get a sense of direction, some of this adds to my understanding, some I am with you on re lean meat telling you they are not there yet and some pointless. What soil your dark chocolate beans are grown may have some truth but is entirely impractical to be worthless. Good commentary from you, thank you. 😊
@@inMotionOutdoors I have been most of life but there must be something else because it hasn't hurt. Do you vote with your dollar? Buy only organic whole foods. Nothing processed.
Keep in mind, at least in the US, although transfats are banned, if the serving size is small enough that it's less than 0.5g per serving, the food companies are allowed to put 0. Just because it says 0, doesn't mean it's true. There's still a loophole.
I think the people that say they don’t have time to eat real food that they cook. Don’t understand that it’s very easy to do especially now with modern technology. You can take a pound of hamburger cut up a bunch of vegetables if you like those maybe put some eggs in to your Insta pot, which is a pressure cooker. It takes nine minutes to cook it and it comes out delicious so I don’t really buy the time argument with preparing food.
I wonder how healthy our fresh foods are when they're being grown in 3rd world nations. Who knows what they're using as fertilizer and what contaminants might be in the water from irrigation. For example, our so-called fresh tomatoes are bland and have a texture like cardboard. Our supermarket fresh foods just don't have the rich favor of home grown varieties.
Everytime someone talks about ultra processed foods bad, whole foods good, theres a pushback from nutritionists and people addicted to artificial flavors. Personally i dont give a shit what people wants to eat. I will eat whats good for my body.
The problem for me is not to know what is processed food. Is bread, noodles not processed? How many households prepare them from scratch? How many people know how to do this? Is she only talking about preservation?
Anything packaged in a store is processed. Bread, pancake mix, tortillas ect goldfish, cheez-its,ect. Anything made out of a factory. (: It took me a while to figure all this out to.
While i agree with you, how do you go about dealing food with 300+ million people just in the united states? Most people don't even know how to grow basic vegetables or raise livestock. Corporate greed would say, let the rich eat healthy for longer life and let the poor eat junk. Supply and demand. It's our job to pick our choices. That's just facts.
Titanium dioxide is also in a great deal of cosmetic products as well, good luck avoiding it! I just realized it’s in the shampoo I’ve been using, and it ‘s an “eco-friendly” shampoo.😊

Obviously.......
Nothing is obvious on the internet. Saying processed food includes all. Click bate titles don't help anyone but the creator. @@hofmanntile4817
Processed food is also foods in bags and boxes. Things made with seed oils...all processed
Defund the FDA.
You are a national treasure Rhonda
Buy organic coconut water and mix it with organic almond milk (ingredients: water, almonds, sugar cane). That's what I do for "Coconut Milk"
Carnivore is a bit extreme since Humans are omnivores.
Agreed would like some more in depth, valid evidence. But these videos are made to be accessible and pack in as much info as possible.
I’m a nutritional sciences major and can agree, been trying to move forward in my career in these weird food times
Thank you for this comment. I am finding more content like this unfortunately.
@@iconoclastic23 bingo, Nutritional people fighting against the interests of corporations that rival countries, it is a fight
Nuts and seeds NOT roasted in oils.
What about it
Thank you Rhonda! Anyone IN THE [USA] watching this should see CLEARLY how IMPORTANT it is that RFK - Jr. be in charge of the health in "our great country". I live in a foreign country (thank god) where the INDUSTRIAL - FOOD, MILITARY - OR - HOLLYWOOD (INCLUDING DISNEY/ABC NEWS) doesn't RUN MY GOVERNMENT!! So here in the Republic of Panama my food sources are not contaminated by the MASSIVE POWER of all of those "old brick buildings" at Washington D.C. or - Lobbyist which want their party to CONTINUE RUNNING THE USA ... and BURY INTELIGENT INFORMATION such as what this podcast represents - [inteligent information] , problem is Rhonda there are tooooo many IGNORANT PEOPLE in the USA whose "source of information" is Hollywood and the corrupt media... Hopefully the party supporting RFK Jr. Will be elected and many good things will happen (WORLD WIDE) Plus the HEALTH IN THE USA will improve CONSIDERABLY!
More people need to be aware of this!
Thank you for sharing!
What a strange comment and even stranger that people are giving it a thumbsup lol
those people don't want to change, they claim they don't have time, yet they waste lots of time on their phones and TVs
@@user-e7xn4q I mean look around. Do you see a public that cares much about healthy eating? It's a combination of things... addictive quality of bad food, laziness, not taking responsibility for themselves, and not listening to people with good advice. I mean eating right and getting healthy is not complicated. There is a lot wrong with what a person is eating or listening to if they are not. You didn't seem like you had any intention of making an actual point, so I'll leave it at that.

Excellent and complete report. Funny how an ad for Stauffer's frozen was an ad previous to watching Dr. Rhonda the second time.
I've never seen an ad for Stauffers on YT. Literally never. I thought that company died 🤣

Kerrygold butter uses PFOAS in its wrapper, except California and Europe
FDA is where you go to work for kickbacks
Hopefully RFK Jr reaches out to you Rhonda! I would feel so confident with someone like you working with the government
Nitric Oxide, precursors, food sources, and a clear understanding of their bio-chemical pathways would be revealing!
The proof is in her fresh face everyday. I will listen to anything this woman says
Thanks for this valuable information 🙏
I agree that a whole food diet is the best way. I’ve been wfpb since I turned 50, no hot flashes, nothing at all. Feeling good inside and out, it works.

Thank you for your work and for informing us All.❤
Firstly with the state of mind is dump the TV and mainstream media.
Make America Healthy Again; we need RFK to dismantle our corrupt FDA
Very informative , thank you !
Thanks Dr. Patrick! 😊
Processed food manufacturers need to hear from consumers that less ADDED chemicals, sugar, oil and salt is wanted in their food products.
Why is there so much ADDED sugar in everything, even bread. That's just crazy
Email, text, tweet or phone your favorite producer of poison and let them know consumers want less salt, oils and sugars in their products.
Let their customer service department know that all the extra added salt, oil and sugar is not necessary or desired and is causing health issues.
Reduce or eliminate highly processed food from your diet if you can.
Or read the label and stop buying it.
Those companies don’t care. They work with farma (spelt wrong on purpose) to keep us unwell. In order to make money.
If they are ignorant and think it's just food, how do you know they know that it's the chemicals doing it and not just thinking that's how it taste?
vote with your money. Stop buying food like products
❤ this wonderful super woman so much life changing education 😊
Not only will people continue to eat processed food after watching this, they'll do it gladly.
I would have like to have seen examples of the foods that have these chemicals in them as you’re talking about them.
If my salad has been tossed..is it processed?
Let me toss your salad sage bro
Process food makes me sick. I literally have seizures hours later
The first one should be seed oils then sugar then bleached flour
Regarding cured meats you see other information suggesting that the nitrates and nitrites are precursors to nitric oxide and they're identical compounds found in vegetables and are praised for their benefits, and when you claim ohh its the antioxidants in plants that block nitrosamines we ignore the fact that those plant compounds are not very bioavailable
I'm not convinced, as long as someone keeps telling me to eat LEAN meat, I know they don't truly understand science and the vast importance of healthy animal fats and I don't put a lot of weight on their discussions, bc they don't seem to understand the importance of insulin anytime I hear lean meat I know they are a high carb believer and a proponent of the starvation diet with lots of colorful plants and carbs bc where are you going to get your healthy fats with lean meat that's just nonsense and easy to see through
Sorry but I've heard her opinions on carnivore and I'm not really impressed with her science It seems to be all epidemiology based and that's just problematic when you want to form solid causation like quoting places with the most centurions lol turns out a lot of the deaths in these places go unreported
Same...
when I talk about this to some people that are healthy & into fitness they flip their 💩and say “we cant avoid and restrict everything” 😢

Keep in mind, at least in the US, although transfats are banned, if the serving size is small enough that it's less than 0.5g per serving, the food companies are allowed to put 0. Just because it says 0, doesn't mean it's true. There's still a loophole.
What about whey protein? Is It safe?
I think the people that say they don’t have time to eat real food that they cook. Don’t understand that it’s very easy to do especially now with modern technology. You can take a pound of hamburger cut up a bunch of vegetables if you like those maybe put some eggs in to your Insta pot, which is a pressure cooker. It takes nine minutes to cook it and it comes out delicious so I don’t really buy the time argument with preparing food.
I just started making my own coffee creamer with sweetened condensed milk and heavy cream and am never going back to toxic creamers EVER.
Just add milk and sugar to your coffee like a normal person dude
You're still ingesting toxic creamers though. Try the unpasteurized version.

I wonder how healthy our fresh foods are when they're being grown in 3rd world nations. Who knows what they're using as fertilizer and what contaminants might be in the water from irrigation. For example, our so-called fresh tomatoes are bland and have a texture like cardboard. Our supermarket fresh foods just don't have the rich favor of home grown varieties.
very useful information shared...thanks Dr
Also soda and all fast food places. It's anything prepackaged (: hope this helps
I answer why our country allows this, and RUclips took It down. I wonder why???
While i agree with you, how do you go about dealing food with 300+ million people just in the united states? Most people don't even know how to grow basic vegetables or raise livestock. Corporate greed would say, let the rich eat healthy for longer life and let the poor eat junk. Supply and demand. It's our job to pick our choices. That's just facts.
Nice list of abbreviations.
Why don’t you specifically tell people what to eat, that’s clean.
