    My favorite crochet memories aren't of my own creations. When I was little and my aunt was still alive she would take me to the craft store with her and I loved watching the yarn she chose turn into beautiful blankets. She passed away when I was 13 and I always regretted never asking her to teach me, so I taught myself as an adult when I missed her the most. Learning her craft gave me a way to connect with her and feel apart of her legacy. I wish I could have had memories of us crocheting together, but to this day going to the store and picking out yarn makes me think of her and smile.

    When I was young my mother taught me how to crochet. I love to crochet..it is so relaxing. Up until a few months ago I always used worsted weight yarn, then I found your videos, and made a shawl using your Palometa pattern and lighter weight yarn. Now I only want to use lighter weight yarn. Your patterns are so beautiful and I will make this my next project.

    I remember when my granny taught me to crochet and she started me out accidentally with just making the worlds longest chain. I was so confused how my chain could make a blanket that I almost cried. She laughed when she walked back in the room and saw my like eight foot chain, evidently she thought I would just stop after like fifty or so and come get her. We unraveled a lot of it and then moved on to single crochets.

      haha. When I first tried to learn, probably around 8ish, I used to crochet a looooong chain, pull it out, then do another loooooong chain. Over and over. I was in my 20s before I used an Family Circle insert to teach myself actual stitches.

    My grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was 5 or 6. But my favorite moment is from only a few months ago. I made your Renata shawl for my niece. She travels a lot for work (and is back on planes again). She wears the shawl in the airport and on the plane because it can be chilly there. I'm just so happy she loves the shawl. She loves that it's light, but warm; large but easy to pack. I'm just thrilled she uses it.

    Aloha Chandi💕 I’ll never forget those days when my mom would patiently teach me how to crochet when I was 5 years old; as soon as my older siblings leaves for school. It was her way to calm me down, I guess. I remember crying my heart out coz I don’t have anyone to play with 💕😆 I put my crochet hooks away when I lost her to colon cancer when I was 10 years old. Mom was 41 💕❤️

      My favorite crochet memories involve my grandmother. She and Grandpa moved from Petersburg, Alaska to our house so she could receive cancer treatments at a larger hospital when I was a young teen. They chose to live in a travel trailer in our driveway to have their own "home". I remember the joy of zipping down the sidewalk to knock on her door and spend the afternoon chattering, laughing at her silly stories and learning how to cross stitch and crochet. That was my last year with her and the warmth of that time will always be a part of me!

      @@kaberle7 Thank you🌺For 3 years now, I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. My late Mom visited me in my dream. When I saw her, there was this feeling of peace and calm that I felt. As soon as I woke up from that dream, I knew that she visited me to remind me of what gave me peace and calmness; one of our favorite things to do..... crocheting. So, I took online classes to learn it again. So now, I'm hooked and slowly began to heal myself.

    My mom showed me how to chain about when I was 10. Sitting on couch in our Dining Room/TV room with a very long chain draped over me to floor. Didn't learn anything else. Not sure if mom knew. Though she had been taught tatting from grandma. A million years later in ~2016 I decided to learn crochet to use as a resource in my pain coping toolbox. I asked around for help. No one knew. A few knitted. Got books out of library. First YT videos I watched were yours & Crochet Crowd. Bought cheap yarn to learn and mess up. I've made 6+ blankets since, got a basket with some WiP & UFO'S, list of RoundToIt & Someday projects, ok@ reading basic charts, & finally going to attempt 2 summer projects for self(sweater in a Crochet Along & throw using your yummy yarns). So crocheting has been a HUGE blessing in my life & others. TY for being part of it!!

    First i really need to say how much i love to watch your videos. Especially the way you present the crocheted items! To see how the shawls flow makes it so much easier to decide if its something i want or not. And you are such a warm, beautiful person, it is a delight seeing you smile. (The bloopers at the end are always hilarious!) I love that you always have the patterns free for a while and after that they are incredible inexpensive! Always clear and easy to follow, so nice to work with them.
    My favorite crochet memory is when i made my first complicated shawl. I always did easy pieces before so it was quite a step for me! Seeing how my work growed, that i was able to do it and how awesome it looked when i finally finished it gave me so much confidence in my crochet.

    I have two memories (really three) that are just as precious. The first is that of my mom teaching me how to crochet at age four or five. She thought me how to make the chain stitch then the single crochet then the double crochet, half double, and triple crochet. The other memories are of when I showed my kids first my oldest two and then my youngest how to crochet the same way my mom did me. I hope that next year I can teach my grandson he will be five I think that is a good age to learn.

      I am jealous, not really, but still. My grandson, just rolls his eyes at me, when I mention teaching him to crochet. I even showed him Mickey from Crochet Crowd and several other guys, even the young boy(forgot his name (Johnah?) He said, I am going to be a surgeon, why do I want to crochet? Huh? He might find, eventually, how calming, relaxing and meditative crocheting is. He is thrilled with my finished projects, and watching, but can’t get past the idea of it a girl thing. 😳 Teach them young. I am so glad for you. Enjoy!

    First, love the open stitch work of this shawl. Second, I was hoping, you would give instructions on the foundation double crocheting 🧶. Thanks. My GrandMa, Sarah, taught me to crochet. I was around five, and made a super long chain. I seem to remember, someone, Mom or an Aunt, helping me spiral it into something useful. I later learned to knit, but prefer crochet. I had chronic pain for years, which spontaneously healed about 2 years ago, and could not crochet,, but very short intervals. Since, Summer/Fall 2019, I have been working nonstop. My Mom was undergoing cancer treatment and I used it as a distraction. I found, if I focused, breathe, relax, and tune everything, I mean, everything, out, I could crochet with no pain. Since, Mom’s death in December 2019, I crochet everyday, sometimes all day. It has helped so much with connecting to my deceased relatives that were crafters, loved bright and warm colors, creating and sharing their items with love ones. I do appreciate textile art. Thank you, for sharing, and asking us to share with you. That is so special, especially since things have been so wacky of late. Blessings 🕊💕🕯😇🙏🏻💚🧶

    I am currently working this pattern and have a dilemma. The pattern for block one states to repeat rows 5 & 6 five more times. Then, row 5 again.
    However, the graph shows the repeat as being rows 4 and 5.
    I was just starting row 18 when I caught it.
    I was reading the pattern on my phone. I didn't even look for a graph which I always prefer and will look back at the written pattern, but didn't this time.
    I got hooked on the pattern and realized the sun was coming up when I got to row 18.
    Then realized there is discrepancy in the pattern.
    I looked for a correction in the bottom somewhere but didn't find one so I thought I bring it to your attention.
    If I am missing something will you please clarify it for me? Thank you so much.
    I'm really excited and invested in the Quitude journey.
    I may frog everything and start over at initial row five after I get some sleep. Lol
    I had a great practice session at least.

    Chandi I have a question. When you complete a crocheted/knitted item you block it. It eventually has to be washed from wearing it so much. So, do you have to block it AGAIN after washing it OR is the first initial blocking sufficient? I have NEVER blocked anything I have crocheted & I have NEVER completed a knitted item I've tried to make 😂 Your yarn is SO beautiful. I received my Vellum kit the other day and can't wait for the CAL starting in July! I'm SO excited🤗🤗

      😍😍 I'm so glad you are joining our CAL, Deirdre! So, It really depends on if I re-block it after washing it. But, to be honest, I am usually pretty lazy and I just wash it and lay it out to air dry. 💕💕💕

    I love this shawl and I started to crochet it yesterday. (sorry my English I am from Austria) As you mentioned I read the written pattern and the chart.
    And I have one question: In the written pattern there are row 4 - 5 - 6 - (5 and 6 its to rep. five more times)..... In the chart there is row 4 - 5, but no row 6. And it says, that row 4 and 5 is to repeat. Sorry to bother you, but I really cannot figure out what is the right pattern :( Please can you help me. Thank you !

    Another beautiful shawl! Love this! But I am still having trouble knowing when I need to alternate skeins when using the same color. So, on this shawl would I need to alternate skeins? And if so, then I would need to buy 2 of each color instead of just one? I must be over thinking this. Thanks.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  3 года назад

      That’s a great question. You won’t need to alternate skeins with this shawl. You will be fine with just one skein of each color. Does this help?

      @vickiellisorlemere4369 3 года назад +1

      @@ExpressionFiberArts Yes and no. ;) Sooo, only need to alternate skeins if doing a solid piece, a garment or there is a huge portion of the piece in one color? Then alternate every 2-3 rows? I am so confused. Sorry.

      Yes, and truly it’s a personal preference. Usually it’s done for larger areas or items made in all one color.

    Hi.
    Can you tell me the length and width of the shawl ,!
    Usually what's the length and width to make perfect shawl

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  3 года назад

      Sure! The size is 15x30. All of the details can be found here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/quietude.html Because there are so many different shapes and varieties of shawls, I think the perfect size shawl is the one that works best for you. For rectangular shawls, I like them about this size because you can wear them in a variety of different ways and they will look good. Hope this helps!

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  2 года назад

      Thank you for your question. We're currently out of stock of Vellum Fingering but we're expecting a delivery from the Mill later this summer. Alternatively, you can use our CashSilk Sock base (www.expressionfiberarts.com/categories/fingering/cashsilk-sock.html) with a fiber content of 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 15% Cashmere, 10% Silk. It's not the same as Vellum but the Cashmere will make up for the softness of the Baby Alpaca and Yak.
      Hope this helps!
