I saw this movie a lifetime ago. I can't remember it now, but I know I liked it. Life goes so quickly, one moment you're a kid, then you look in the mirror one morning and you're old. If you're still young and reading this, grab life with both hands and live it, grab it and never let go! Stay lucky and be happy!👍
Went to the drive in w/2 girls in my 55 nomad
Omg! I feel the same way: suddenly all these years are gone! How did it happen ?
thank you
🥲
@@antongrad it happens to everyone ... no one can hold on its the great leveler of all rich and poor. Then grim reaper.
When I was a waiter in LA in the early '80's one of the guests at one of my tables one night was Jennifer O'Neill. She was beautiful. I had the opportunity to wait on many film stars during my time as a waiter - Paul Newman was seated at the first table I ever waited on - but Jennifer O'neill stands out as a special memory for me because of this movie, and for her beauty.
you are so lucky
Wow!!! It's cool!
This is one of the best coming of age movies ever made. Probably the very best.
Really? It might be a fantasy for some. Because it is a married woman of thirty banging a boy of fifteen, everyone is raving about this as a "coming of age" movie,
but what if it were a man of thirty banging a girl of fifteen? Then there would be outrage. Double standards, I would say. It is wrong either way.
@@paulaltman9751 The woman is 22.
@@paulaltman9751hermit was such a lucky guy
@paulaltman9751 in real life, she's been married 9 times
And she's got a vagina, it's different for men: Only if they want to use their ... But women do not have this physical power to refuse, if they wanted to.
This looks like a great movie. I actually have not seen it. But I will have to watch it someday. The question will be, can I get through it without crying. Most likely not.
I met Penny in the summer of 1977 when I was 16. She was 30 (yes, a 14 year age difference). We eventually became EMT/Paramedic partners working on the ambulance together for many years. In fact, we worked the vast majority of our EMS careers together.
We were a great team on and off duty, building a successful life together. I knew her for 43 great years. We lived together for 30 years, married 15 of them (I was her second husband).
Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly in May of 2020. I can tell you they don't make women like Penny anymore.
I love and miss you, my wonderful wife. But life goes on.
So sad hope you are alright now and yes life must go on.
Very sorry to hear. Hope you have peace. You have the good memories.
What a beautiful story, thank you so much for sharing, it made me cry. I send you love ❤
I watched it today and i am 19. It's a Masterpiece....
Where can we want it
@@sanchitamukhopadhyay5001 I have a VHS copy lol
The Michel Legrand music score The incoming ocean rolling onto the beach and that Beautiful smile of Jennifer O'Neill that every young man just fell in love with xx
She's so beautiful it hurts.
Jennifer O'Neill is a perfect 10
Sike.....😂
one of the most heart-felt movies i've ever seen
It tells you about life. But the ending - he didn't hear from her again.....a bit unfinished...
I have watched this movie at least 42 times and have read the book about four or five times and I thank Hermon Raucher every time I do. It brings me back to when my two brothers and I were back in the 1950s.
I watched this when I was around 14 ('81/'82) and was spellbound. A gentle, moving film. Great photography, great cast. Astoundingly beautiful theme.
That’s awesome 😎 👏
I also saw it when I was 14 back in 1992
I heard about this movie when I was 15 or 16 years in 94-95 from a neighbour nuch senior to me. He said it was a cult classic. True to his word ..how right. The story, casting just superb.
Amazing movie, it's such a fairytale flashback to a young boy finding love on a summer vacation. This movie created so much emotion that all of us have felt. It's a bitter sweet film that keeps my mind wondering.
Its something we all have lived and loved as teenagers.
One of the most beautiful classic music in a millennium.. The last caress/ it's time to dress. So beautiful music..and lyrics / greatest Michel legrand!
Back around 1992, I was a movie projectionist and program planner for my college movie theater. I chose this film as part of my film series. I only saw it that one time, but I’ve been haunted by the soundtrack and melancholy ever since, of days once traveled and traveled no more.
I watched the movie as a teenager when it was shown on TV about 1980. It is beautiful while melancholy and depicts those teenage confusion moments and loss of innocence / coming of age in a way that I could relate to perfectly. Maybe it's style is dated in 2023 but it was perfect for the era and I still think of the musical score whenever I feel whimsical and nostalgic.
Your comment is so profound
Jennifer o Neil would have to have been one of the most beautiful women in the world. Absolutely spellbinding and made for this part.
She is Brasilian?
Brazilian American
She is half Irish
It's weird when you realize the film came out 50 years ago and the film itself is about a memory of narrator's summer 30 years prior. Someone out there has their own Summer of 71 story.
Yes. I saw this in my teenage😊.. i love ❤️ this movie..unforgettable movie of my life..
This and "Love Story" are the two best movies from 1970. Both are similar sad.
Heartbreaking...... and beautiful.........
I always thought she was so beautiful!
I watched this movie when I was 18 loved it.
What year was that?
@@asfiraihan2073 I think it was 1978.

One of My Favorite
Movies of All Time!
With a very haunting
theme song, which is
also a Favorite of mine.
I own the movie on DVD
and recently bought a used
French copy of the
Original Soundtrack album.
I Absolutely Love this movie!
This came out the year I was born.
It is beautiful and painful at the same time.
@Ghost2000 youre a dork ..
There’s a sadness in the movie. The yearning for love that a teenage boy has . The loneliness of the Island he lives on and the nostalgia for a time more innocent when many people look back on their teenage years
The shining brought me here
Deep and beautiful movie and fabulous french music of compositor Michel legrand
This is one of those movies from way back then I would like to watch again.
When I saw it as a kid on TV, I thought she was like 40. Turns out she was only 22!
same, i thought she was soooo old
Crazy isn't.
Yes today the actress is 73.
At 15 my mam sat with me to watch this, for the score as I loved music and I now know why in a thousand ways
I watched this film with my two cousins & we were laughing & enjoying the film. But when it came to the scene of Hermie & Dorothy, we were quiet & taken back.
I watch this movie long time ago now Dec.2021 and I still remember the movie and the song and I also read the book.❤️
Quem nunca em nossa adolescência não se apaixonou assim???
Great movie.
one of my all time favorite flicks they dont make em like this anymore more the shame.
One of the best movies I've ever seen
Classic
I love this movie.
Jennifer o’ Neill is so beautiful
Oh Jennifer!
Jennifer O NEAL WAS SUPER IN THAT MOVIE.
I have thought of other models of that era and as beautiful as they were none of them could have replaced Jennifer O'Neill in this IMO.
She certainly was.
she was indeed super
This great movie takes me to my teen years when ı was a student in 1976 in Exeter,England...
Lindo e delicado filme sobre sentimento, afeto, amor é descoberta do mundo!
I do believe Dawson's Creek writers got the idea for the Pacey and his teacher romance from this movie.
One of the best movie ever made IMO. It’s expresses the crossroads of a teens life. I wonder if it would have been as succinct if the roles were reversed.
Art imitates life. I was a 14 year old farm boy and my summer romance with a 36 year old San Francisco widow (her husband shot down in Vietnam).
One of my favorite movies 🍿

Not yet watch this movie. But been listening to the song since 1994. Summer Knows
I had a girl like that once until I met another one ... I called the Summer of every Year... ☺️
50 years of the film
I will be forever grateful for the summer of 63, not so much the ending of that year. The one that change life forever.
Why don’ t. Hollywood make movies like the SUMMER OF 42?
You're so right
Because they no longer wish to endorse pedophilia
@@paleo704 really. They endorse it all the time in movies they make.
'Cos they're sh!theads.
Mine was a summer of '77. An affair that lasted a year and a half. And that seemed like a very long time.
No more movies like that
Dad took me to see this the day it came out. Seems like a lifetime ago
Surpreendente as várias leituras que dão a essa película (v. abaixo). Respeito todas. Para mim um filme bonito, sensível. E Dorothy dolorosamente bela!
The main character Hermie was I think supposed to be 16 in the movie and the older woman was supposed to be 28 I think . I think the actor who played Hermie was actually 16 also but the lead actress was in actuality 23.
The late Syrian 🇸🇾 poet Nizar Qabbani (1923-1998)

Michel Legrand Music... Fantastic music, to a Fantastic Movie.
It would be looked at as some criminal offense these days. I think it was such a beautiful story and whoever is lucky enough as a teen to experience something like this is so lucky.
I heard in reality it never progressed to full blown sex
Can’t find it free anywhere I wanna see it so bad 😢
I'm thinking of the real-life Dorothy (played in the movie by Jennifer O'Neill). I hope that she went on to have a happy life after the events depicted in the movie and that she's at peace wherever she is now.
I’m about to watch this movie for the first time
Oh my! I saw it in 1974 I believe. Been my favorite ever since.
Bittersweet

great movie , make the feelings different .
Corny TEAR JERKER. I ❤️ IT.
REMINDS ME OF HOME, INNOCENCE.
Such a strange movie
The screen writer passed away today.
I don't understand why they made Jennifer O'Neill look like a '70s gal in 1942. I loved the movie, but that always bothered me.
Summer of ‘42...meanwhile in Stalingrad
Why on earth was Wendy watching this movie with Danny?

Its a good movie but if this was a movie about a man and a young teenage girl it would be banned , blacklisted , ensue riots etc..... double standards.
And it would be right.
Married and devorced 10 times in real life.
This is not a romantic movie! This is a story about a desperate, unstable woman getting advantage of an underage boy, who lost his innocence after their encounter...
This is a true story. Why not take the time to research it. They did not have sex. That was left to the imagination of the viewer. Her husband has been killed, and they cuddled. That is all. The best part of the story? He was not paid for the script, instead being promised 10% of the gross. In his own words, he has been living off that ever since!
@@ConvairDart106 Damn! What a spoiler!
@@ConvairDart106 I am not interested in the true story, dude. We judge a script, a movie here. You say yourself that it is left to the imagination, so yes, they could easily have had sex in many viewers minds. Given, as well , the fact that the boy admits his life was affected ever after ( I suppose a simple cuddle does not do that). There is no point at all in your comment, sorry.
It's a Masterpiece....

The most beautiful movie ever made about statutory rape.

This film and a few other masterpieces mystified me about white women.😳
What did you want to say with that?
Great movie, laughable trailer editing.
But the acting is so horrible.
Statutory rape shouldn’t be glamorized. What a ridiculous movie.
LOL,jealous?
Lovely movie😢
Unimpressed…forced boomer quasi-nostalgia.
