I just did a simple Google search because wanted a little more information. It stated that they began as hard core punk. Turn in said they transitioned to hip hop For the debut album and left punk behind for the most part. These are my words on what I just read. All I did was type in what genre' Are the Beastie Boys? Straight off the top the 1st sentence on the 1st result was they started as a hard core punk band but by the time they released their debut album they were hip hop. I can definitely see a lotta punk. Oh yeah in also said jazz Frank punk hip hop and more that I can't remember all are included in some of their tracks . I wonder can you tell me are there any videos or any kind of thing about the Beastie Boys before their debut album when there were doing punk. Also, The site said hardcore punk which is something now wanna check out if there's a video out there. Anyway peace and I'm not trying to be combative or argumentative I'm just trying to learn

YES! They got their start in Punk and then moved into the rap scene but being true to form, brought the punk edge with them. In NYC Underground scene they had a decent punk following, which many of those fans came along for the ride into the rap scene and made quite a few hardcore punks fans become rap fans. A mega crossover contingency here in NYC.

Beastie Boys started the Punk Rock Hip Hop/Rap Scene in 1979! I remembered, I was invited to Break Dance at a house party in an huge apartment building in a basement in Jamaica Ave, Brooklyn NY in 1981! There were over hundred people. I use to Break Dance in those days in NYC when the big and Great Run DMC came out to call them on, “Lets make some noise for These crazy White Boys the Beastie Boys!” When I first heard them they were wild and crazy, I was hooked! Matter of Fact Beastie Boys influenced Run-DMC to do parody with Aerosmith on his previous hit song Walk This Way! Run DMC really like the song and want to do a mesh with it and hit big time! Also Beastie Boys influenced not only influenced rappers like Eiminem but many rock bands Linkin Park, Rade Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Slipnot, Limp Bisket, korn and many others!

The Beastie Boys were Hip Hop and Rock. In fact, they were one of Def Jam's first signings. One of the founders of Def Jam Records is in this music video at the party...along with LL Cool J (another Def Jam Hip Hop artist) who also made a cameo appearance in the video.
This is a Def Jam Record music video, from the early days of 1980s Hip Hop.

Oh such a fabulous rabbit hole to go down. They are personally responsible for the door opening in suburbia for rap/hip-hop and the career of LL Cool J. This album was under Def Jam and as LL said...Rick Ruben and Run DMC took rap to the outskirts of suburbia and Beastie Boys ran it to middle of town. Enjoy the ride 😁🕊️

They are considered rap. The producer Rick Rubin was into rock and influenced Run DMC with Aerosmyth. This was a number 1 selling record opening doors for whites to accept rap music more in the mainstream. At that time the fat boys and Run DMC may have been they only acts that were played on pop stations.
