The video that started it all. The first Beastie Boys song I heard was Paul Revere. I heard it in early 86, and I was listening to the radio. I was like, wtf is this, damn this is good! Went and got that licensed to ill tape along with Run-Dmc Raising Hell that Christmas. And I stayed a fan for my entire life; still love them. Won't change!

I was about your age when this song came out. The Beastie Boys were a combination of rap and punk rock in this phase. It was the soundtrack to a lot of my youthful misconduct. If you listened to the lyrics closely you could see why.
This came out just as I was in Army training. I was at AIT on Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana, and they used to blare this song down the hallways of the barracks.

This song was an ANTHEM back in 1986 for young people everywhere
FYI They wrote this song in a day or so as filler. It was supposed to be a throwaway song on the album (or as a B Side to a single song record), but it caught fire and lunched them into being a household name.

I agree that they didn't catch the lyrics but it's nice that they were so attentive when it came to the video. Some reactors don't pay attention to anything at all. And above all they seemed to enjoy it amd at the end of the day thats what the artists intended for the song and video to bring enjoyment. I'm sure at some point they'll hear it again and clue in too the lyrics
You gotta love how a band can make a whole song making fun of jocks and that same song then becomes an anthem for jocks. Makes you think about the awareness level of these guys. How many tackles does it take until you don't realize people are laughing at you?

Loved this song and loved this video, think this was the first beasty boys I heard growing up, thanks guys, great reaction, and when the party gets out of control and police show, head out the back and run through the woods before get caught find way home later, keep your hand up sideways foot in front of your face, to keep branches from hitting you in the eyes in the dark
I was about Ya'lls age when this first came out. The video is not meant to be taken literally as in they wouldnt really smash someones guitar etc. I guess its supposed to give a wild party vibe.

My part was always the sober guy "I don't drink so I was always the Person who went to the door when the police came collected car keys ......I still had fun :) "Class of 86"

I was 15 when this came out. I grew up with Cookie Puss and the Beasties. After hearing the Beastie Boys album Paul's Boutique in 1989, the one after this one, I stopped listening to all other rap. There was no other for me. BEASTIES RULE
I hadn't thought about it that way but I stopped listening to rap right after Pauls Boutique.
@@randabeast I got boutique and a then rap started falling apart. A friend had Check your head and I liked that and thought it may have been their best. I listened for them after that and respected them, but did not really follow pop music after the Clinton administration. I reverted back to the seventies and sixties. But I do like the Beasties over all other rap artists. And there hasn't been anything comparable in decades.

Im not being a ass and know you guys are young but I know the videos itself are fun to watch but you listen to songs to interpret it as well but you guys didn't mention one version of the song. I grew up watching the Beastie and their lines are some of GOAT and I think you would like their words! I want to see as do others on what you think of the lyrics as well not just videos !
