The one upgrade I highly recommend is the Geissele Super SCAR 2 Stage Trigger. Yes it cost $325 but let me tell you it's worth every penny and the stock trigger is trash. There was not much that I got upgraded because it's a great rifle. Only replaced the trigger, grip and muzzle brake so it can shoot suppressed.

I have an angled charging handle on my SCAR 17, I never wear gloves and have never scraped my knuckles on my Tijicon 648 ACOG scope mount. I have the SilencerCo brake on it for my Omega, that runs flawlessly as I treat mine as a DMR; I don't consider myself a sniper even though sometimes that Giessele trigger makes me feel more accurate than I typically am. I like the accuracy and the durability of FN's weapons shooting ball ammo, or even cheaper stuff if I feel crazy.

Yup! I got the 16S first in 2010 and love it and got the 17S in 2011 and love it!
Mine's in FDE, with the Leupold scope and larue tactical scope mount. An angled charging handle made by stryker enterprises and a magpul MIAD grip, Geissele trigger results in a truly excellent firearm.

I've been researching this rifle for some time now, needless to say I fell in love with the looks and features and the fact it can be a workhorse. Wanted to make sure I'm not missing any info before I buy one, I think I'm pretty settled into what I'm going to get and also love the simple mods you put on it and I will likely fall into line with that trigger wise etc.

In 2009, after the administration was changed, they passed the 2010 budget that cut SOCOM's funds by 15% across the board and ordered them to stand up an extra battalion at every group. M4s and M16s are "free" in that their cost falls under the parent service branches and doesn't affect SOCOM. Even if the SCAR were a super rifle that solidly outperformed any AR for half the cost it would still have suffered cutbacks unless you could offer it to SOCOM for free in the face of that budget cut.
Of course SOCOM didn't say that to the bloggers. They replaced the extra personnel requirement and a 15% budget cut with "limited funds" so people would jump to the conclusion that the rifle was at fault. Like telling your friend that a new car is too expensive for what it does and that you're going to keep your old one... without telling them that you just lost your job and had to pay for your kid's braces.

As one of MANY viewers that simply listens to the review while doing something else...10% productive 90% just looking at whatever hes reviewing on Slick Guns and erroneously telling myself I can drop $3000 on it. I like a 20-45 min review length.
*30 min seems perfect for anything NON-AR related*. Mainly because we know nothing(or very little) about the item in question...Compact 9mms, unusual 223s, 308 offerings, etc etc etc All deserve comprehensive videos.
Unlike ARs, which other than the latest and greatest triangle grips and 20 foot long keymod rails are exactly what we've been seeing for the last 10 years(those reviews should be 15 min).

+Raul Danger Officers tend to have a lot to say, and Nutnfancy was a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF. Like MAC, Sootch, Hickok45, Iraqveteran888, etc., he's an important part of the gun community and an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Whether you like his style or not, have some class and leave his wife and family out of it.

*As you know, 1st amendment rights do not extend to baseless libel* .

Hi Eric. Superb review. I've had my 17 for 5 1/2 years. 5500 rds through it. Great rifle. Also have a SCAR16-11,000rds through it. PhenomenalThree items come to mind. Concerning the charging handle, it's that way purposely to eject a bad/dirty round or to be used as a forward assist. To avert the knuckle problem with your LaRue mount, reverse it. Have the controls on the ejection port side in your case. I have the exact same mount with a Swarovski Z5. By reversing it, no more potential knuckle problems.Next, regarding the trigger-cut a coil off the hammer spring and spray some white lithium lubricant all over the contact and moving parts. This is how mine came from the factory. Big difference. It'll bed over time. Finally, we find supressors will change the impact and dispersion factors in all rifles and pistols. It's just physics. Your take on it is 100% correct. Thanks again for an excellent review of this great rifle. The 16 is no slouch either especially using Mk262 ammo. Bridges the gap a bit if you know what I mean.Faulkner Out.

Couldn't you reverse the scope mount to get the QD locks out of the way of the charging handle? I thought they were supposed to be on the right side in the first place so they can't (or have less of a chance) snag on your clothing.

+YoderTexas And how exactly would you propose that on a cantilevered mount like the one in the video? Larue is a left side only mount for magnified/cantilever mounts. Second, those release levers on the Larue mounts close in quite close to the rail. You would have to try very hard to get one of those to snag on your clothing.

    • @silasbland4515

American Defense MFG (ADM) makes a SCAR specific scope mount ( Search = ADM SCAR Scope Mount ).

    • @YoderTexas
      @YoderTexas 8 лет назад

      Aaron Orr
It's very simple. You release the clamping levers and put the front end where the back end was. Then flip the scope end for end. He has a lot of free real estate on that rail so he can move it to wherever it needs to be. A gun only "needs" a cantilevered mount when you run out of rail.

There simply has to be profit made in order to be able to produce these really good items we buy. Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal didn't get where they are today buy selling low cost firearms,...nor did any other of the great manufacturers that we like to patronize.
I read a little sign once that went something like this, " If you want good clean , well baled hay, then you have to pay the price, but if you want the grass that's already been through the cow, well folks, that comes a little cheaper" !!!

Getting real sick, and real suspicious seeing this ZQI crap everywhere. I personally, which is my own opinion, and do not believe anyone else should feel this way to be clear......won't by anything turkish after seeing what they do overseas. I spent 2 years in Greece, and most of the immigrant issues over there are turkey's fault.

I love tactical Tailor! I live about 2 miles from their factory store and about 5 miles from their production warehouse. I'm glad to see some representation from outside of WA State! This totally made the video for me!
Unfortunately the guy who started Tactical Tailor passed away a few years back in a motor vehicle accident. You reference guy a lot, but it's many GUYS at tactical tailor.

Nice review video. I purchased a SCAR 17s a few months ago. Still configuring my own. Price tag is high, but gun is great. My brother, who has zero rifle experience, put his 3rd and beyond shot on target. Would love to show off my own build soon. Great video.

This is a proper REview. You can't just take a rifle, run a couple hundred rounds through it in an afternoon, and call it a day. Kudos to you for actually owning and using it for an extended period of time before you decided to form an opinion on it and broadcast said opinion to the world.

Thank you for a informative video, I have the 17S now for about 2 years. I have replaced the trigger as you did with the same brand, changed the grip, and put Glass on top Vortex 5x20x50. My favorite rifle, no regrets on the spending and I'm not rolling in the money either. I have a saying, "Do it right the first time and you won't have to upgrade or trade later costing more money". I also did the IWI TAVOR 5.56, another fantastic rifle. The silencer is also AAC and fits both rifles, so now covered both favorite calibers with top line equipment and very happy! I noticed in your video you felt the same way I do, that made me even more sure I did right...Thanks!

I have it in FDE also with the super scar trigger and hogue grip. Need a new optic though. I used to run the Eotech before it stop working. The good news was the model I had was defective. I soon found out that every Eotech was being sued because that model was defective across the board so I get a full refund 2 years later. Just have to wait on my check in the mail. I will check out the Vortex and will also look at some leupolds.

This gun shoots like a dream. The SCAR 17s is absolutely worth the price, and from my limited time on the range with one I'd want to invest in one. Unbelievably light and very little recoil, and a hell of a lot of fun.

Have a family member whose unit was issued the scar 17 when deployed in Afghanistan - very few lasted the duration of the deployment. They eat optics and crack stock base plates - high round counts suppressed.
