I did see some replacement parts for the console on Amazon already. The EV6 has been available in Korea and Europe for longer than in the US so the modd'ers have had time to come up with parts. Seems to be mostly carbon-fiber-look stuff now but there's definitely parts available to replace the default factory fascia parts on the center console.

    Buyer Beware
We bought the EV6 Wind RWD on April 2, 2022at Ball KIA San Diego. We love the way it looks, the way it drives, the modes and the room. We purchased it specifically because of the California CAV Carpool status and the 310 mile range. When I commuted to my work destination 134 miles away, the next day, on a 100% full charge; I had 13% battery and only 24 miles to go after I arrived to my final destination. I didn't drive extreme or in a hilly areas. Nothing different than the terrain and freeway speeds of Orange County where the KIA Corporate HDQ are located. I didn't have the heater or ac on anything more than normal. Needless to say I was peeved. I had to recharge in Compton and I'm glad my wife didn't have to do this. So here I am 3 weeks later, a new car that will not charge more than 215 est miles. The Mi/kwh is 2.3-3.4.
KIA wont help, they keep giving me the runaround and telling me that the 310mile per charge is only an estimate. Even though the brochure says 310* plus/minus 10... KIA headquarters says 167 -310 est range.
KIA wont help us, we have to do all of this investigation on our own, The Service managers, District Manager and Regional manager have not returned any of our calls, emails. We have been to 2 service centers and they are telling us that this 215 mile range is standard and correct for their long range Wind model (the 310 mile model) My wife and I believe that KIA has placed the EV6 Light Model Battery in the Wind Model Frame.

Yeah I've owned Kias for almost 10 years now and I gotta say, sadly, that the once great customer service I hd when I bought my first one seems to be going by the wayside. I'll NEVER use Kia Motor Finance again ever, and the dealership which once was bragged about by me OFTEN is now in my rearview. Could be because it was bought by another owner (Trophy), but HQ won't even help me deal with their crap anymore. Now when I go to the service department I feel like I'm being ripped off these days,...no more.

I park ours next to my Prius-C and it looks enormous in comparison (though, most cars do ;-).
Overall. I'd say the interior fees about as wide, or maybe a bid wider than our old 2008 Infiniti M35x (a full-sized sedan). Lots of leg room front and back.
The wheel base is as long as Kia's full-sized 3-row SUV, but that's because the EV drivetrain allows the wheels to be pushed out further to the ends of the vehicle.
Overall.. it's bigger than you might assume from photos.. but I wouldn't say it's (externally) huge. I still feel dwarfed by full-sized SUVs.
It does drive as smoothly as a larger vehicle though because of the long-wheel base.. and the weight probably helps there too. It really reminds me of the Infiniti on the road.. but faster.

I put off purchasing an ID.4 to wait for the EV6 and Ioniq5. I ended up buying an EV6.. though I had a pay a premium to get what I wanted given supply chain issues. 😞
First of all.. I thought the Ioniq 5 looked better than I expected in person. Specifically, I really liked the front end in person and I was 'meh' about it before that.
Overall, the Ioniq 5 felt more utilitarian.. more like a family grocery getter, and my wife wanted the "sexier" EV6. I think we'd get more bang for our buck with an Ioniq 5 but I didn't argue about the EV6 being the more appealing vehicle.
Overall.. Love it. Best car I've ever owned.. and previously I'd have said that was my Infinity M35X.
I agree with most (all?) of the comments in the video.. pros and cons. Just a few extra comments though..
My Wind AWD w/ Tech Package includes the Vehicle to Load adapter but no portable charger. I actually use a 'portable' as my primary charger because I only typically drive 0 to ~70/miles per day and a 120V 'portable' charger can keep up. I haven't had to use a commercial charging station in my first 1500 miles.
The vehicle sensors are, in some cases, way more refined than in my old Infiniti.. so much so that I can set cruise control in stop and go traffic and let the car (mostly) drive its self.. though You get a warning if you don't keep your hands on the wheel.
There are still some 'bugs'.. especially with the sensors in tight traffic. I've been in City traffic and had the warning sensors go off many times, telling me to survey the area around me. Things that seem to trigger.. the car in front of me rolling back an inch (~4' to 3'11").. a bus or truck moving in the adjacent lane, and.. ??). Also somewhat annoying, lane assistance can be unforgiving.. causing it to chirp and try to 'correct' if I'm in a merge lane that has street markers that confuse the sensors. This only seems to happen if I fail to signal though so I chalk that up to the price for me not being more consistent in my signaling.
One thing missed in the video.. the front seat frames sit down on the cabin floor. There's plenty of foot room in the back seats, but you can't slip your toes under the front seats to stretch out a bit more.

Would you recommend for large commutes?

    • @ffakr
      @ffakr 2 года назад +1

@@markk7082 It depends on what "large" means to you.. and whether you mean long regular travel or road-trips.
For regular travel.. I seem to be getting around 3.5 miles/ KW*Hr around home (it's got a 77KWhr battery and you recover a lot of that with regen braking).
I recharge with a 120V 15A charger at about 1.75 KW/hr. So, that means my 120V-15A L1 AC charger can keep up with about 6 miles of daily travel per hour of recharge. If you're leaving it plugged in about 12 hours overnight, that's like ~70 miles of range a day while still having your battery topped off every morning. If you invest in a 2-phase L2 AC charger, you'll get about twice that daily range without requiring public charging.
      Road-Trips..
I just took it up for a weekend-away in a neighboring State (~190 miles) and I ended up there with only ~30 miles to spare because I was driving 75-85 MPH and passing, not Drafting, for long stretches.
The lack of public charging infrastructure in the US is still an issue.. as much as I'd like to be able to hand-wave that away.
We didn't have too much trouble finding a charger when we got there. It happened to be at a gas station and it was a DC fast charger so we were pulling up to 120KW out of it. We were nearly topped off in the time it took us to figure out which breweries & Resturaunt we were going to visit that first day. 🙂 BTW.. the warnings about charging speeds at over 80% capacity are spot on.. it slowed down to ~35KW as we pushed up towards 90% full.
On the way out, we had more trouble finding somewhere to top-off.
In that area, the main options are chargers at Auto Dealerships (usually L2 AC or lower-capacity DC (35-65KW).. and chargers at some big-box stores.
Stopped by a dealership and all stations were full. Then went to a near-by grocery store and found they used a services (tied to Shell) that I had not yet signed up for and the chargers were only L2 AC so it wasn't worth the effort. (they also required me to pre-deposit funds to use their fairly slow charger)
Eventually drove a bit farther to get to a proper DC fast charger, where we once again were pulling about 120-125KW and we were fairly quickly on our way after perusing a neighboring art gallery and enjoying a doughnut & coffee.
The EV6 should be able to pull upwards of ~300KW if you can find a fast-enough DC charger.. but those are exceedingly rare (so far only found One around the major City I live near). Generally a 125KW DC is the best you'll find.
Side note: the Gallery owner from above also owned the Charging station we used there.. must have been some sort of franchise setup because it was Charge-Point station. He said he actually got stranded for 5 hrs while trying to drive the length of Indiana.. because of the trouble he had finding working chargers in corn-country.
In theory, I don't see the charging as being a major impediment to road-tripping with the EV6 as long as you're not going too far between public chargers. It only requires you to stop and stretch your legs every few hours.. not a terrible thing.. and the EV6 really does guzzle down power if you can find a decent DC Fast Charger.
In practice though, what I've found (so far) is the patchwork nature of US Charging infrastructure means you're searching through multiple apps to find an available charger to use and that can be a pain. Even after locating them, you need to check on their output-capacity, their availability, and you have to hope they're actually free & working when you get there. This alone would make planing a long road trip a lot harder. Your best bet would be to try and swing by larger cities every couple hundred miles and hope to find a decent charger there.
The adoption of a unified payment platform for Public chargers would solve a lot of headaches. I want one app that will show me all Electrify America, and Volta, and ChargePoint, and EVgo, etc. chargers.. plus any free ones (I use PlugShare for this). I just haven't found that app yet.
If I could also pay for all these different Charging services with that one app, that would also be a huge improvement because then I wouldn't have to take the time to setup a new account and payment details for each new service I ran across.
Here's an idea.. Socialism! If the Feds want to push EV adoption, set up a national payment processing system and allow private Charging companies to utilize it. Or, at least.. give us one interface to find all the public charging stations across the Country. A National Registry of Chargers!
I'm sure if it proved successful, the private market would step in to compete with better tech, right?

Maybe some people bought a car, loved it, decided to get a different model. You have no idea if they went back to gas, or went back to another EV. So essentially, your observations are kind of meaningless.

I was concerned about the RWD performance given the weight of the EV6 (and other similarly-sized EVs). I now think that's not a serious concern though.
The EV6 has 3 drive modes. Eco and normal are primarily RWD. Normal kicks in the front motor if you accelerate hard, and I think Eco will do the same if you floor it but I won't swear to that.
The throttle response also changes between modes. That's most obvious when you switch from Eco to Sport.. where the position of your pedal in each translates to significantly different amount of power.. so the car jerks ahead during the switch.
My AWD Wind is comparatively sedate but perfectly drivable in Eco mode and down-right peppy in Normal mode (even without the front motor activating).
In Sport mode (full time AWD), it's really too fast for normal driving. Don't get me wrong.. it's super fun, but there's so much torque that acceleration is jerky. This is even the case in Normal mode.. if I accelerate a bit too hard to change lanes (or similar) our heads get flung back into he headrests.
I'm glad I got the AWD.. both for winter traction and 'for fun', but I think I'd be perfectly happy with the RWD model too... and the extra range would potentially be useful too.

The front does look great. The hood was one of the things my wife immediately commented on.
I'm more impressed by the rear though.
The muscular rear fenders are reminiscent of a 911. The swooping rear tail light assembly is tasteful yet very sporty. Even the small wings along the rear roof-line that enclose downward firing lights (turn on when you approach/unlock car).. it's all brilliant.

Looks like you guys mixed up the price of the RWD and AWD Wind model. Also, where is the Kia shark nose grill? It feels like the EV6 has more Hyundai style, while the Ioniq 5 should have been branded as a Kia.

It is incorrect to say a slight decrease in mileage. More honestly, an increase in the waiting time on charging. The battery is the same, so it will take more time to charge. I'm talking about all-wheel drive.

This EV6 is a waste of money. Imagine people forking over 50k for one of these golf carts ! Plus all the hidden costs installing a decent charge station at your house will run over 2k. I am sorry if I had 50k I would buy a car that's worth 50k. Mark my words this EV6 will have major problems. It's a Korean rushed out of production to make tons of money. 50k? But a good ford explorer or a jeep Grand Cherokee the ev6 is a glorified golf cart.

Not many people will opt in for the EV-6 light package, but this is the loophole that many ev car manufacturers use to allow for the $7500 tax credit, as long as the “ base” price is under the specified government limit you get the tax credit no matter how many trim lines you jump to after that, in some cases almost half again as much as base price to get the car you really want to drive. The legislation is still unclear ( imagine that) as to which trim levels or models might be included in this so called price cap for the tax credit, right now the word is $80,000 or more no tax credit. Not many of us will have to worry about reaching that price point and if you do you probably don’t need the tax credit anyway.

As with any car very important to research total cost of ownership, parts and service and insurance. There’s been a lot of news out there about the super high battery replacement cost of a ionic five main Propulsion drive battery just checked with Kia here in Southern California just as bad over 53,000 to replace the battery pack when it’s off of warranty totally unacceptable Tesla is the only way forward right now. Their batteries are about 16 K not the whole price of the car Huge dealbreaker hope Kia and Hyundai do something to drastically lower this price.

Insurance companies are not willing to insure theses EVs, Tesla has started their own company to insure their cars and many say that company is also a lemon. What are the costs of the battery replacement, tire wear because of the acceleration and battery weight! Reviewers are not talking about the downsides. Buyer beware before wading into electrification, the shock will kill you!
