The fact that you are willing to explain your process is AWESOME, but what really sets you apart is how well you are able to explain things. I bought these programs but definitely have not been using them to their full potential. Thanks Sam! Can't wait for your next vid!
Ghaleon in gimp I’ve managed to recreate the light / glow behind the subject the cog was not available so couldn’t do that and wasn’t able to create the 3D text yet lol
As soon as I saw that "Edit in Designer" button, I immediately bought both of them... The fact that you can take your entire photo project and instantly bring it to designer to make vector-based stuff and then switch back so seamlessly is amazing.
I was just letting RUclips play from your most recent video and this came up, and it's amazing to see side by side how much you have grown as a creator in just a year. Keep up the amazing work, and thank you for all you do for your community.
Just used the knockout text trick for a thumbnail. Its about video games which might not work, but I like the effect & had some fun with it. Always good to keep new tricks in the back of my head. Thanks Sam.
@Sam Woodhall - Thank you for the amazing tips! I've started applying some of these techniques to my own thumbnails, and they look 50 times better! You're awesome!
Sam I discovered you channel a couple of months ago and I have been binge watching all your design videos. I've started paying much more attention to my thumbnails recently, thanks for your help!
A pro tip for those that are on a budget (just like me): you can do the bitmap editing in Pixlr and the vector stuff in Gravit Designer. Both browser based and most importantly: FREE to use.
Making thumbnails definitely takes experimenting to find that perfect balance that fits your channel/video and draws attention. Always grateful for the tips and tricks you give us, thank you sir.
Really Really good techniques. I am working for most in GIMP and can replicate most of your tips there but I can see how the program you use can speed up the process a lot. I am glad I found that vid. I will definitely come back to it another time. I really hope there is a tutorial for Channel design. Especially the Header since that one is tricky to design for all sorts of devices. Mobile, Tablet, and Desktop.
Sam, I always underestimate just how much I love your videos and how wonderful they are. My only gripe (and this isn't a real gripe) is trying to find people who create the same type of videos that you make in programs that I use (Resolve, Gimp, etc) with the same type of quality. I'm too spoiled, and find it difficult to watch some of the tutorial videos on those programs because they just aren't as engaging as the content you create. Thank you for being so awesome, and I can't wait to see what you have planned for the future!
Great Video Sam. I used myself in my thumbnails for the first time a couple days ago, and it got more clicks then normal. Will definitely use these tips for my next thumbnails. Thank You!
This is great. I actually use Photoshop but it gave me the ideas and concept of what you're doing in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer all the same. Thanks!
Easily the thing I've struggled with the most as I'm learning this platform. Super helpful tutorial with lots of useful tips and ideas to play with. Thank you!
Hey Sam! Thanks for the videos. I’m currently looking to hire a video editor and don’t know where to start! It’d help me out a bunch to know roughly what you charged Harris when you first worked together?
Very helpful video! I’ve struggled with finding out a way to make clean eye catching txt without having it look “overdone” this helps a lot thanks Sam!
Aaaw man, these are some really good tips! Unfortunately, I use Photoshop, but I think I can still apply most of these effects anyway using similar tools in Photoshop. Thanks again, Sam!
You're a wizard, Harry. I mean Sam. Dangit. Anyway, my point is that I am very much not good at these things, and your tutorials have been helpful. It approaches magic in my eyes, thank you for the content.
For everyone struggling with doing this in photoshop: The method used here is a bit of a ‘hack’ in that it’s a manual way of creating an effect that you can do using a specific tool. It’s a really nice trick though, would never have thought of this! Create the text as normal with whatever stroke colour/thickness you want, and then in the bottom right of Photoshop, click FX. Use the drop shadow, adjust the settings so that: - The colour matches your text outline - The direction matches the 3d effect you’re after (usually 45 degrees down and left/right) - The feathering/fade is set to the minimum so it’s just a blocky harsh shadow (I think there’s a couple of settings to play around with here. Once you’ve got the settings right, you’ll have the same effect but it’ll be easy to make adjustments to the colour, opacity and direction. Also probably less CPU intensive as it’s just one later and one effect.
If you’re struggling with Masking there should be hundreds of tutorials on this. Just search ‘cut out background in photoshop’ and look for PixImperfect, his tutorials are sick.
Gret video sam! I have a couple stock sun rays I will be deleting off my hard drive now thanks to the cogwheel trick... That honey dijon color looks good on you too!
Hi Sam thanks for a great video, did you use the same process to create your socials lower third, would be great to see a tutorial on how you created the animated text :)
Thanks Sam. Now I know how to turn Harris into the Virgin Mary. Joking aside though, thanks Sam. That was a great tutorial, as always. You're a pro. 👍🏻
Hi Sam! The most useful videos for graphic design!! thank you. i have a suestion... I'm trying to edit a video to cut it so I can use it to add into my alerts on stream, I don't know what to use and then id like to add different audio over that video... thank you so much in advance! hope its not a bother
Is there a less expensive option to do this or a way to bundle them? What i could find only was buying each piece for $50 each. Hoping there is a way to get all 3 because my thumbnails need a lot of work
Sam! I can’t get my images to size for thumbnails after using this. Can you show me how you port this onto RUclips thumbnails so they’re the right size?
*Grabs popcorn and settles in for another absolute banger*
My man said "wait til friday" on the stream, did not disappoint
This is not even just a thumbnail tutorial lol This is a full on "how to use Affinity suite" tutorial! I love it! Learned so much!
The fact that you are willing to explain your process is AWESOME, but what really sets you apart is how well you are able to explain things. I bought these programs but definitely have not been using them to their full potential. Thanks Sam! Can't wait for your next vid!
Could you possibly show us how to do these effects or similar effects like these but in photoshop please?
Yes please
Literally just about to try this in PS with no idea how to do it, a video using PS would be awesome.
Anyone found any similar with PS?
Ghaleon in gimp I’ve managed to recreate the light / glow behind the subject the cog was not available so couldn’t do that and wasn’t able to create the 3D text yet lol

The best video I've seen on thumbnail creation. So many gems in here. Cheers Sam. 👍

The things i learned about photo and designer in this was more useful than the affinity videos i watched.
Thank you!
Shits even better then the 5 years I spent at uni
I can't wait for Sam to get that algorithm wave momentum he deserves. This content is so vital for so many creators.

Hey Sam! Thanks for the videos. I’m currently looking to hire a video editor and don’t know where to start! It’d help me out a bunch to know roughly what you charged Harris when you first worked together?
Anyone knows what font he used for the "RUclips" word?
I used SF Pro Display
A room tour would be awesome! Edit: Thanks for all the likes and the favorite sam! This has NEVER happened before and I gratefully appreciate it!!!!

Hey, Sam - would you recommend Affinity Designer/Photo over PS and Illustrator?
Great help! appreciate it soo much!
Great content mate!
Love the content, Keep up the amazing work
yesss i was wondering how you guys did the 3d text for so long
Can I ask you how much the mixer impacts in your sound? Do you recommend to buy one? Is it connected directly to the microphone?
Also one more question, do you know an alternative app to do this type of edition, for Windows? Free or paid version I don't mind.
Thanks a lot!
Harris's face at 5.17 is like
"Why did you do this to me, sam ?"

Really enjoy video's like this.

What RGB lights are those? Look awesome!

How do you make your lights show the colour so well? Mine just blow out white?
Sam thank you so much, I had to teach myself how to do PS and this vid will improve my thumbnails even better
I didn’t look at the date on this, and I watched it after your recent room update video 😂 I was SUPER confused for a second 😂

It's funny. I've already known how to do all of this for a long time, but just don't think to bother. Nice work!
How do you make those fonts look so awesome? How can i give my white fonts that black outer edge?
NVM, i am using a newer version and turns out i just have to use the STROKE which is almost hidden... xD
