Thanks Ally! Loved the video. I have learned so much from your videos. I have made a lot of logos over the years for our FamilySearch Library, using ArtText, and then changing to Logoist. However, with the skills learned using Affinity, I no longer need those applications. Your video is a great review in making logos using layers, special effects, etc. Again, I learned some new tricks with that gradient tool and the text along a curve. Thanks!

Excellent video. I just bought Affinity to escape the Adobe tax just used it for my first YT thumbnail. I think my thumbnails are way to busy with too much going on, like I want to cram too much info into it. I didn't have the courage this time to make it a background like the one you made here although I did make it. So maybe I should try a ab comparison.

Very good tutorial! I'd like to make a proposal, though: Instead of painting around the outline, you can duplicate the subject, having the FX (outline, shadow) only for the lower one and additionally give it a Gaussian Blur until the outline appears smooth enough. The blur doesn't matter much to the shadow as it is blurred already and you may adjust it separately. Since the overlaying subject is still sharp, you achieve a mostly satisfying result.
