    A bit late watching here but.....An outstanding episode for The Review Crew and this foursome is definitely a group that should appear again. Four obviously distinct personalities but they managed to pull it all together and provide what sound like some outstanding choices from everyone. Some specific thanks? Well, thanks to Davy for bringing some music and sounds not necessarily typical for the SoT channel. Great to have some recommendations from across the pond. Thanks to Scot for his prog choices - no genre surprise here but found Scot's channel through other SoT episodes and always enjoy his enthusiasm. Having Karen appear here regularly is a huge plus as still missing the All About The Fuzz episodes that she and Pete provided and good to hear her choices as well. As for having Jamie host, another great hosting job and his presentations always bring a smile or a laugh. The pie chart and report card did it this time. So, thanks everyone, for your time in preparing and appearing on this episode. Looking forward to the next Crew Review.

    A great new release from the end of April is “Dark Sky Sanctuary” by Freeways. This is the sophomore record from a great Canadian band I haven’t heard much hype for but really deserve some attention. Some elements of the NWOTHM but just as much straight ahead hard rock. Great songwriting and great playing.

    • @wolf1977
      @wolf1977 2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah more rock than NWOTHM to me - some of the guitar lines remind me of Thin Lizzy at times (like on "Spark Eliminator" & "Stray Into Yesterday"). I have their CDS of Dark Sky Sanctuary” but not the album (yet). I do have their 2020 album True Bearings which is pretty good - they also have a 2017 EP called Cold Front (which I don't have). Apparently they've been around for 10 years now...

    Two new albums I’ve been listening to lately
    New album by band I never heard of until Pete reviewed it couple days ago called White Dog from Austin Texas. Double dog Dare name of their new album, man really good southern rock, rock n roll album. Definitely Allman brothers band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, I hear bits of Led Zeppelin in the song Holy Smoke. 4/5
    Slash of GNR has put out a new solo album this time it s a blues covers album he said he always wanted to make and he invited a bunch of friends on the album. The album is called orgy of the Damned it’s really good, my favorites are Killing floor Brian Johnson singing and Steven Tyler doing the harmonica. Brian Johnson we all know him for his high register voice for this he sings this in low register and it’s good and said he always wanted to cover this song ever since before AC/DC. Check out the songs The Pusher featuring Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes really good, Hoochie Coochie Man featuring Billy Gibbons, it’s Billy he always sounds good. Born under a bad sign a Albert king cover with Paul Rodgers singing, man Paul Rodgers so good, after how many strokes he had for last 5 years this guy at 74 is unbelievable. 4/5

    I agree with Karen. I loved Arctic Thunder and Oldstar, but these past three Darkthrone albums have been more miss than hit. This one is a step in the right direction, but not a highlight. I love their early stuff, but also stuff like their crust era, their 2010s stuff is good to great all the way through but from these past three albums you could probably make one killer album.

    The Hazytones - Wild Fever
    This album jams. Stripping it down to a nice, neat little review, this sounds like Alice in Chains meets COC. With Bill Ward on drums. And a little bit of psychedelia thrown in for good measure. Doom done right. 8.1/10
    Pallbearer - Mind Burns Alive
    Not a fan of this one, honestly. The doom has almost disappeared and it has been replaced with...emo prog? Since I don't care for it I have a feeling Jamie and Pete will love it. 6/10
    White Dog - Double Dog Dare
    Pete got me to purchase this one. If you like Southern Rock then this is for you. There's dashes of Skynyrd, a little Allmans, some early Blackfoot and a lot of Outlaws. Sounds like it was recorded at Capricorn Records in 1977. 8/10

    @Fastnbulbous1969 2 месяца назад

    Jamie's kick ass vs. pampered ass chart is priceless. The pamper bits actually remind me of UK band Elbow, but not in a bad way! Another band that comes from a psych prog background that released an album (Vessel) on the same day as Pallbearer, and also does the emotive vocal bits, is the third album from Vitskär Süden. They sound Scandinavian but are from L.A. Worth a spin! A big release day, Italy's cosmic doom sludge titans Ufomammut released Hidden.
    My favorite of the year so far is on the Heavy Psych Sounds label, the fifth album from a band that's not as heavy as most of the roster, but I love their psych pop sound with a subtly jazzy swing along the lines of Dungen. That's Denmark's The Sonic Dawn - Phantom. Highly recommended.

    Scot is...a bit much for me. Tries to butt in a lot. Think you can see Jamie and Davey not digging him too much at points here! This format throws personalities together and Karen is great with Jamie and Davey but Scot - and he says it himself - just too loudmouth and trying to interrupt.
    Really glad Karen brought some Japanese to the show - so much great music from there rn. Ditto Davey talking about The Lemon Twigs and Mdou who would never be on SOT but are absolutely worthy to be so. Karen picking Uncle Acid is also exciting. I don't like this one as much as others but the discussion about it in a film context since 2 Monster's Den crew are here was terrific. I saw the Lemon Twigs in Akron a couple of years back and they were amazing in person - but the last two records have shown their growth. Would love to see a few others mentioned live.

    WOW!! I was fully expecting, despite NOT the usual crew in the thumbnail, to be bombarded by metallic, amelodic noisy garbage (sorry, but that's what most of it sounds like to me, sometimes)...but, OMG, I don't know where all these Scottish accents come from, but did he REALLY just use the description "70's Todd Rundgren"??? Yikes!!! Up until I got on my current Steven Wilson kick, Todd was, basically a God to me, from back as far as Something/Anything and Wizard era power pop, prog-ish brilliance. O.K., I must amend that due to having seen him a couple of weeks ago, and it just was NOT Todd...at least not what I expected, and not in a good way...BE FORWARNED!!! Then cap it off with getting my ass kicked by a group of Nazi bouncers for no apparent reason, and you get the worst show of my, well, recent lifetime. That said, Todd's worked with Lemon Twigs 'cause he likes 'em, not as a producing project, and that IS saying something right there. But enough for now, that's only pick #1 and I'm actually looking forward to the rest....good start, though!! (edited for spelling)
