I like the 'get more people into fusion' angle. Nice job guys! You can't go wrong with the Elektric Band.

My dad introduced me to the music of the Chick Corea Elektric Band when he played me the GRP super live in concert on vinyl and I was absolutely blown away by the playing and the musicianship of these guys, they were playing jazz music but with more of a rock approach but leaning towards the pop aspects. I've been a big fan of this band for close to 30 years and they made some fantastic music during the mid 80s to early 90s. I saw these guys back in 2017 and it was one of the best shows I have been to. Thanks for doing this, I really appreciate it. I've been waiting for this one for a long time and you guys delivered. It was late 80's when hard rock and heavy metal had just started to take a turn for the worse... hair bands! I didn't feel like I had a musical home anymore. Then a friend of mine said, hey you gotta check out this guy Dave Weckl on drums on this Chick Corea album. I got a used copy of the first Elektric Band CD and I was hooked.
I agree that they're all great in their own way, but for me, Eye Of The Beholder is on another level. Less about soloing or musicianship, and more about song composition and feel. Absolutely brilliant.

    • @LuchaLibertaria

Actually there was a lot of variety in late 80s Metal scene: Power Metal, Progressive Metal, Thrash bands, Traditional Metal bands still going on strong & plus the Hard Rock bands. Rock Bands have long hair since the mid 60s.

I love this channel, RTF and Elektric Band, and Purple happens to be my “favorite” band all time. In my opinion, the classic lineup of Elektric Band playing live is hard to touch from a technical standpoint. DiMeola is a tighter player than Gambale, but the overall output of the band and the live shows are awesome. There are RUclips videos of Mike Pope filling in on bass and even he is awesome. I like them more than Dream Theater even for outright jamming. It would be cool to hear DT or Petrucci/Rudess cover some Elektric band stuff.

Love Chick Corea, definitely my favourite Jazz fusion artist (second favourite Al DiMeola) and top three jazz alongside Miles and Coltrane. Both bands were great - Corea has a knack of choosing to work with excellent musicians - and who better to replace DiMeola in RTF iv than Frank Gambale? I'd agree with George's choice of Inside Out being my favourite, with the debut next then beause I came to the party fairly late, To The Stars in third - though I also find the interludes a bit annoying. I also have no truck with his personal beliefs that inspired that album and which I think (though may be wrong) were a reason for DiMeola and he falling out? Each to their own. Unfortunately I've never seen them nor RTF nor Chick live - at least there are some videos out there. I'd still have to go with RTF over Elektric band as my favourite out of the two, not to forget some superb Chick Corea solo albums like My Spanish Heart, Leprechaun, The Ultimate Adventure and for a great overview of his various trios , quartets and duos there's his great Rendezvous in New York set.

Great show guys about a band I dont know much about but will have a listen as per your rankings.
After seeing you struggle sometimes with where to place certain albums do you ever have your list finalised only to change whilst actually doing the show? Also do you plan on doing a nightwish show in the future as you have previously mentioned you are a fan?

Yeah, I've done it more times than I can count! LOL! As for Nightwish, possibly at some point. Haven't really listened to a lot of their music in recent years.

Pete are you aware of a late 80s early 90s jazz fusion band from Buffalo called Gamalon ? I would bet you are, but if not they have some killer guitar centric rock/fusion albums you ought to check out. Star with Aerial View first if not familiar with them.

I am in a metal band but I love Jazz Fusion so this is really cool for me. I am huge Chick Corea fan but I'm more familiar with his work in Return to Forever, this video is good for me to delve into his solo career. Commenters here who are some good fusion artists besides Mahavishnu, and Return to Forever, Holdsworth, Tribal Tech, and Billy Cobham that I should check out? those ones i know pretty well already.
