I own every issue of Progression magazine ever published. The reason I began watching SOT was I remembered seeing the name Pete Pardo in Progression. I wouldn't mind having copies of the SOT magazine.
The magazine pre-dated me finding you and your content on RUclips. I am grateful you decided to talk about it as I was able to order a couple issues, surprisingly at a very reasonable price.
First thing I did was hit up ebay. Figuring these would be valuable collectors items. Pleasantly surprised to see somebody had issues #5-#8 for low price so I snapped them up. Looking forward to thumbing through these time capsules. I got into prog in 1992 but had drifted away by the time these came out. Didn't get into bands I see on the covers like Ayreon , Pain of Salvation, Fates Warning until much later (last few years), nice to see SoT was already on the ball as soon as they came out and their reviews have stood the test of time. Just increases my respect for everything Pete does. I don't collect music/vinyl/CDs (go figure) and have as close to zero physical music media as possible but do collects lots of other stuff including old magazines. These will go right on my shelf next to Hit Parader and Metal Edge LOL. No idea these existed but am thrilled to find out about them.
Jag Panzer's "Thane To the Throne" ad inside the issue #5 cover-- can't get much better than that! These mags look beautifully produced and designed, hanks for sharing these nuggets with us.
I am a professional journalist, I have been doing it all my life, but if you can say that I am something more than a journalist, it is that I am a sucker for print magazines. I love the covers, the smell of the paper, everything. I'm still buying Uncut :-)
Coming from a graphic design background I really like the covers of your SOT magazine. I really like the fact that you’re posting photos and text on black background. That’s kind of the way I look at the RUclips pages when you’re showing art as I like a nice black background with the picture floating in the middle Instead of having a massive white border and I think Ken has done that nice job with his Friday show and with a little sea of tranquility logo on the right looks really classy and nice
I have a few issues that l purchased at the first few NEARfest concerts l went to. Along with, of course, even more issues of Progression magazine as well. I may have even bought some issues at some record fairs l attended back in the day. Thanks for the musical memories!
It would be nice to see some new listening guides on the show, and/or how certain kinds of music morphed over time into different genres. I became more aware of Fusion through this channel and have really enjoyed this ride. Through the fusion I also ended getting into a lot of Jazz, which was not that easy, and I ended up having to get a book on Jazz to get a better understanding of what was happening in the music, and how it had progressed through time.
Great seeing older physical magazines. Pete, I recall that you said that you ar one time used to write for Ex pose' . It was more like an expanded prog news letter. I subscribed to it from 11 1995 to about 2000 , if or when did you write for them. I thought that it was an excellent publication.. You must have been an extremely busy young man in the 90s.
I looked up your webzine version when I first started watching your channel. I was surprised to see a review or two of a band a good friend of mine played drums in, Slut Em Go (later Pio Mazotti). Not really prog which is why I was surprised. Cool to see some original hard copies.
Curious, where did the name come from? I believe BJH has a song titled Sea of Tranquility, wondering if that was the inspiration. Thanks for doing what you do. I discovered you 2 years ago, have really enjoyed the content. I do miss the curse of the collector.
@@seaoftranquilityprog Maybe he had an interest in astronomy, & the moon landing as the sea of tranquility is where Apollo 11 landed on when it went to the moon.
Some back issues are still available from Progression Magazine: store.progressionmag.com/back-issues.html
Nice! Just ordered Issue #7. Always loved this time for metal. Looked like the issue that would be most up my alley.
Thank you for the info, just picked up a couple issues; even through Sea of Tranquility magazine was short lived, I would have been a subscriber.

“Music for the new intellectual” - I love it! Thanks for this look back!
I was just watching the old videos of these last week the irony... they were about five years ago! Love to see these, it's so neat.
Yep, thought I had done one many years ago! Oh well, here's an updated one then!

I had a few, think they might be in a tote in the attic…I liked them
Pretty cool Pete, thanks for sharing 👌🏻
Very cool stuff...
❤ it ! Pete ❤
Very cool- it would be fun to do some sort of print annual taking the best stuff from the webzine now to put together.
That's really cool - I also remember subscribing to Progression magazine.

Different times I remember only getting music news in print once every 2 weeks or weekly
Cool! Never knew that Progression magazine had bought them out. I’ve got a bunch of those!

Our founder, the late James Bickers, came up with the name. Never really heard what the actual inspiration was.

Pete think you would go from Mag writer to You tube Channel thanks for all the years
Not really, but glad it happened!
