The final live date of the three months long 2002 tour was a success. Morrissey was very chatty, as he had been all along this tour, and in a very playful mood. He was handed many gifts (books, flags, etc) throughout the concert, which he took and kept. The fans seemed more enthusiastic than on the previous night. They sang along to many of the classic songs. Still none of them tried to get on stage. Two shirts were thrown by Morrissey to his fans during the 75 minutes the show lasted.
Upon entering stage Morrissey greeted the audience "Hello Greece, we are Aphrodite's Child!". Aphrodite's Child were a late 60s / early 70s Greek band who enjoyed reasonable success over Europe. Aware that many people had bought tickets for both nights he followed set opener "I Want The One I Can't Have" with "You came back for a second night.how could you, how could you." He then told his favorite fan "Julia, it's the last night of the tour" and pretended to weep.
Before going into crowd favorite "Hairdresser On Fire" Morrissey sarcastically announced "So we are back tonight with a completely new set. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha, & we have been trying to learn some greek words & we have come up with.nothing.Nothing!" The night before he had complained about the microphone stand so after "Hairdresser On Fire" he commented "So u will see that tonight they gave me a new mike stand which I think is incredible. Athens, new mike stand, I'm happy. I'm happy, I'm happy" He then asked "Julia, is that for me or not for me?" After "Speedway" he asked the audience "So I think you really need to say something now, yes? No? No? No? Nothing to say, nothing to say, all these years, nothing to say Who? No"
Morrissey then introduced "The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores" with the question "You know why Kylie Minogue is quite popular? Do you know why? Becuz the world is full of crashing bores." After the song he discussed his day "I was riding around Athens 2day on a Vespa and I killed four people. I hope it was no one you know, or, I hope it was no one you like..." At this point someone asked "Is Madonna a crashing bore?" and Morrissey replied "Oh... oh.Madoga, ah! Madonna!" At this point Alain jokingly told Morrissey "You ran over her today!" and the man asked him "Sorry Alain, what are you trying to say?" He repeated what he had said and this time Morrissey answered "Yes, that's right, Madoga was one of the people I ran over today..." Looking embarrassed, he then said "Why Julia? Why do I make life harder than it is..." (Note: the Vespa riding footage surfaced in 2003 in a documentary titled "The Importance Of Being Morrissey")
"First Of The Gang To Die" introduced with "This, just in case somebody up there is interested, is a song I am singing: 'The First Of The Gang To Die'!" After the song, just like in England or in the USA, the audience started chanting Morrissey's name. Flattered, the man jokingly asked "yes, but can you say it backwards?" He then started "So" but was distracted by something shouted to him. He searched while saying out loud "So something, so something" but then someone shouted for "Mexico", which prompted him to ask "'Mexico'? How do you know 'Mexico'? (fan says he's from Phoenix) From Phoenix? Oh, yes, you were in Phoenix? So u came all this way? All this way? Really? Really?" At this point some other fan shouted something and Morrissey retorted "Were u on the corner? I'm sorry about your leg, whoops, I'm not insured" Having wasted a lot of time he then rushingly introduced "Jack The Ripper" with a quick "The thoughts of Jack The Ripper!"
After "Jack The Ripper" fan gave Morrissey an army tag and he told the fan "I'll wear it in the bath.nowhere else." At some point into "Everyday Is Like Sunday" the microphone started giving out and he screeched "Help! Help!" As the audience was singing along to song and was drowning him out he just stopped singing, smiled, and said "No microphone, wow!" After the song he said "thank you for helping!" He then proceeded with the customary introduction of the band: "It's very hard to believe now of course but when I first met them, they were all female. (crowd laughs) Oh yes, hard to believe! Would u please put your knees together for Boz!for Gary!for Deano! & you may remember him from the stage version of 'Fiddler On The Roof', he played the roof! Alain! & I have an attack of the cutes, an attack of the cutes, which means I'm saying: I like you"

I was at both of these shows in 2002 (20 years ago!!!) and remember it well. I tear up every time I reminisce of these old shows and my youth. 💙🤍💙🤍
