Nope, slow-motion screw people hit; with slow motion, people think racket is moving passively, but the opposite is true racket moves really fast. If it moves passive, you are not hitting; you are guiding
@@ksutha1944 that is likely true, but you have to start somewhere when it comes to technique and I would add, no one, not even the great ones, started with the hitting you are referring to. Just my 2 cents.
A brilliant video, simple but makes one appreciate Alex's smooth, practiced stroke. Tried it with a ball machine and it feels natural. Please expand on this format, such as timing (not waiting for the ball, go after it).
Great instruction. Watched many videos on FH technique, first time to realize should finish with racquet hitting face pointing outwards. Can't wait to try tonight.
Great video. I've spotted a lot of things I'm doing wrong just by watching you do it in slow motion. I'm looking forward to getting back on the court to put this into practice 👍
I only started playing a year ago and that urge not to tense at contact is really hard to shake off! It made all the difference once I acknowledged that though and started to "trust" the racket to take the load. Really good tip.

Dear Simon and Alex, please make videos on how to hit running forehands and backhands. And a separate video on the recovery after the running FH and BH.
Excellent “social distancing” LOL! I needed this excellent instruction as the forehand as I mentioned on a previous TTT video, I am rebuilding my forehand from the ground up. Ale you are spot on to the specific areas that I struggle regarding the forehand Can you guys do a video that addresses the feat that some have of releasing the shot. Sometimes I am hesitant to meet the ball out front
Whether bent arm our straight sometimes I am afraid to take a good aggressive swing at the ball I wind up with the aligator arm forehand hitting the late with all kinds of the soon in my body.and it may take me 45 minutes of wild erratic mistimed forehands to get loose a dour front. Please help!
Everything mentioned in this video is crucially important, but I would especially recommend replaying segments 3:06 to 3:26 to yourself a few hundred times, or until you can hear the words in your sleep, whichever comes first. Then, go out onto the court and start hitting some steady cooperative forehand rallies with those words continually echoing inside your mind. If you don't notice a marked difference in results, then lather, rinse and repeat. Many thanks, both to Alex and to Alex.
Yep. I'd love to see a lesson on how to carve those pesky side spin droppers that run away from both the net man and the baseline player. @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
Nice work Alex and spot on with the information. Not enough teachers emphasize taking the racket back with the shoulders and keeping it short. I like how Alex #2 steps in to the ball. In my opinion a lot of people hit the forehand to open which promotes the tendency to hit off their back foot robbing them of power. I found if I teach kids to step in to the ball and use more of a closed stance they get in the habit of shifting their weight forward through impact. They will naturally open up their stance if they don’t have time to step into the shot. It’s easy to see why you have so many followers. Keep up the good work.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial yes! Right these days I was thinking if it makes sense to have a routine (with balls) that you can do alone. Something to improve feeling, contact point, weight translation, position... etc... Sometimes I'm alone for 30mins in the court, and I would like to do something, but no idea about what to do :) Thank you!
The 3 steps of having a perfect tennis forehand is as follows: have a perfect swing, find your correct contact point with the ball, and learn to have a perfect balance.
Thanks for the video, very informative. I started playing tennis last year and found your channel on RUclips a bit later and I learned a lot. As a beginner it's pretty hard to pay attention to everything at the same time, I think I struggle most with finding the right contact point. I used to play football (soccer), I'm also pretty quick and I keep running to close to the ball. Also I hit it too late, not in front of me.
You guys (Alex, Simon and Alex number 2) are fantastic. Your content is very much appreciated - always informative and often invaluable. These days my forehands are extremely inconsistent. They never used to be. They're either really decent, powerful and quite low over the net or horribly high, landing around the baseline, often long. I've studied your forehand videos and try to implement but still, this is happening and I don't get why. It would be great if you could suggest some common reasons for this.
I keep my arm/elbow too close to my body. I like the demo of the left arm extended during the bring back and the right arm out away from the body. I have to work on mirroring that.
Hey guys love your videos, can you create a video for teaching a total beginner on how to hit a moving ball coming at him? As well as moving to hit a moving ball? Man I find for all beginners this is the hardest thing to learn, for some it's a daunting task, for others they can get it with constant ball tossing. How do you help those that really have a hard time hitting a moving ball at them, a very slow ball to a medium paced ball? That would be a great video lesson. Thanks.
Great tips Alex 1. I know you haven't talked about the topspin here, but can you ask Alex 2 to demonstrate when we should close the racket at contact. Sometimes I see professional players, closing up the racket almost paralel to the ground. Federer does and he uses an eastern grip. Is there a rule of thumb as when I should be closing the racket that much?
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial now I feel bad about asking. That is exactly the video I did not watch. You catched me :-) I use to close the strings at contact but the trade off is the lack of power and at least my shot would not arc above the net that would bounce up nicely after the fall. about the not tensing can u get ibto that? i was taught at seguso academy to relax till moment of impact but at that moment to increase grip (esp for volley). in golf obviously its deadly to tense
Yeah, you never want to finish too quickly and too close to your own body. Seriously, thanks for the video. I didn't understand early in the game that you need to take your arm back as far as you can, and finish by reaching in front of you. Most videos just show from the front or back, and you lose the ability to see what the arm is actually doing. When your swing is too compact it becomes all arm because you can't engage your core due to lack of space.
Good video for me! I'm recently practicing the forehand technique as it's compatible for many situations in Tennis. I need to practice because I'm always hitting the ball high. Are you guys professional Tennis coaches?

Hi Alex, In this video and the one you did with Charlene in Malta I was able to see how low you place your racquet before swinging up toward the ball. That was an essential part that I didn’t know. Do you do it the same way if you are hitting flat? In other words, would the only difference between topspin and flat be using quick wrist rotation over the ball for topsin and pushing straight through the ball toward target for flat, with the earlier part of the swing being the same for both? In other words, low to high for both? Thanks so much!! Kudos to you and Simon for your awesome instructional videos!! - Alan
hi, what about body stance to enable better rotation? i note Alex left foot is in the front on a 45degree angle, does it not block hips rotation? i taught to come to the ball sideways, almost parallel to the finish line with my right foot first and body weight on that front foot. is that correct? thanks
