    I’m glad you posted this today. My watermelons are putting on fruit and this is just what I needed to learn. Out of all the stuff I planted this year I feel like my watermelons get my constant attention 😂

      @yellowcityflyfishing 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Trumpisthevillageidiot pretty mixed bag. I had a real big black diamond coming in that I was excited for. I picked it probably a week too soon. I tried to do all the different ways to check for ripeness but I still fumbled the bag. My royal goldens produced a good bit of melons but none of them got very big. Think this year I’m going to up what I feed them and how often.

I would try pruning a couple of plants this year and leave some melon plans alone to see what happens. If all of them die, then it's something else. Please let me know what happens. It depends, I try for 2 nice ones per plant because I grow lots of them. If I'm trying to grow the biggest one for a friendly competition , I will not cut the vine. I will only cut the fruit off. I have a few people that said it did not work for them. There's a lot that did say it worked. I may do another pruning video to help more. This is my first year growing melons, didnt know i'm suposed to prune them but relieved to learn this bcz they've taken over! I cant even see where all the melons are it's so dense. I planted pumpkins among them as well! 🤦🏻‍♀️ maybe this is fixable now that I know its ok to cut vines. vines look healthy in spite of the competition for nutrients. Zone 9 (or 10 not sure)CA, long growing season so i hope theres time to still grow to full size.

    • @GrowSomethingTasty
      @GrowSomethingTasty  Год назад +1

      HELLO BLUEBIRD, you don't have to prune them. I just do it to keep it cleaner, but the main reason is that the melons get larger when I do this. Big-time farmers don't do it because they have too many plants, and they fertilize heavily so they can get away with it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
