Ozark Mountain Daredevils- Jackie Blue( LP edit) Best Yacht Rock 1 hit ever!
I looked up they had another hit but think in a niche bluegrass or country market.
Never heard it until now. Great track as well. Still would consider Javkie Blue a 1 hit
Be sure it's the LP edit
@@richardhamilton9936 if you wanna get to heaven too
Another truly great song from the classic rock era!
Yes!!!!
Great song!!!!!!
This song goes along with "Brandi" and "Dancing in the Moonlight" as 70's classics. Story telling and feel like you you are on a ship at sea. (Dandelions are pretty at a distance. Yes they are a weed, but ... Didn't you rub them on your arm and if yellow comes on - you like butter. That was a thing in our neighborhood growing up. 😂 ). Have heard this a lot but never really notced the guitar solo at the end. Haha - the magic behind the scenes.
I'm so Happy to see Ty is back. All 3 of you together is wonderful to listen to. So glad to see Ty!!!
Guys, there's an artist that you guys are probably aware of still. You have to get him on. (Joe Jackson) is his name. There's 2 songs that were very popular from him. The first is "Stepping Out" 🗣 FIRE 🔥 GUYS! & the second is "Is she really going out with him" 🔥as well. Please give them a listen you won't be disappointed.
Also, i have to let you guys know that no one has ever suggested "Roxy Music" on this channel. "Love is the drug & Dance Away" are 2 fabulous songs 🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
People get them confused with " Talking Heads" bc there's some similarities that they share. Please give them a listen, boys.
Ps Talk about "Talking Heads" you have to give a listen to [ Once in a lifetime, Psycho Killer & Burning Down The House] just to name a few.
Com'on guys let the people hear these masterpieces of music from the past! 🤜🙏🙏
A nice contemporary tune is Are You Ready by Pacific Gas & Electric
When this song came out, all I had to listen to it was a transistor radio. Now, listening in ear phones, is even more awesome!
I was 17 when this dropped. It was a good time to be young and alive.
I graduated from HS in '70, 54 years ago. What's strange to me is that the Beatles broke up then, after only ten years together, while the Rolling Stones are still touring, with Keith getting special permission from the local fire marshal to smoke on stage during the concert, Or he wouldn't play. (He quit smoking in 2023)
…Something about this tune. It just fits like a comfy pair of bell bottoms. One amazingly great hit.
I've really missed Ty.... Its great to see him again!
Cool song!! Try “Play That Funky Music” by Wild Cherry!!🤘🔥
That whole album is great
Makes me think of summertime in the 70’s at the pool. Good times
I was just thinking what to comment and you summed it up perfectly.
Ditto
Speaking of "one man band", that's a great tune by 3 dog night!
You have to remember to take into account the year it was made - in 1970, this was not easy listening
I was in 6th grade when this came out. Bought the little 45 record, and wore the diamond tip needle down to a stub on my record player listening to this song. Come home from school and my mom would be dancing around the house having a blast playing this song. Holy shit!! What great days. Love and miss you mom. RIP
Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck.
Yes Please!
I love this song!
Another great 1 hit wonder
Please check out one of the two greatest one-hit wonders, “Get Together” by the Youngbloods, since you’ve already reacted to the other one “Dancing in the Moonlight”. I’ll let you decide which is 1, and which is 2.
Great recommendation! Get Together is in my top 20 rock songs of all time.
They should also do "Darkness, Darkness" while they're at it, too. Such a deeply-felt emotional song.
Circa mid-80s I was in a great record store in Newark, NJ. I was a regular and the owner would let me go in the back room to see the special collection. I found a never opened vinyl copy of this album. Snatched that right up.
This was always a great song to listen to. It makes you want to sing along.
This is one of those songs that, as far back as I can remember hearing popular music, i've just sort of been aware of this song. I'm 57 so I guess I was a wee lad when it came out. It's not really in my wheelhouse (I'm more late70s/early 80s classic rock) but somehow this one's just hung around. It's on my iPhone now. I never seek it out but if it pops up I'll listen to it.
Excellent choice.
Nick, if you want something with more emphasis on the vocals AND excellent instrumentation....Me and Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul
Guaranteed to wind up on at least one ot Ryan's playlists.
Produced by Richard Polodor,
Worked with the Wrecking Crew on projects from Electric Prunes, Monkees, Three Dog Night. I believe the tune was recorded at American Recording Studio in LA.
One Fine Morning by Lighthouse, She talks in Stereo by Gary Myrick and Funky Nassau by The Beginning of the End deserve a listen to
One Fine Morning, YES!
Boys, not sure if you've ever heard of Martha and the Muffins, but they had a hit in 1980 called Echo Beach. Give it a try. It was all the rage for a while..
I haven’t seen where you’ve reacted to Manford Manns Earth Band’s cover of Blinded by the Light. It’s the song that the best known for and it’s a guaranteed banger.
The Electric Prunes are known for one hit -- the stunning psych masterpiece "I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)" from late 1966. The band's name sounds like a joke, but the song isn't.
Good song!
Give Life Is A Rock ( But The Radio Rolled Me ) bt Reunion a listen
David Lee Roth - "Yankee Rose"
[David Lee Roth: vocals, theatrics;
Steve Vai: guitars
Billy Sheehan: bass guitar, backing vocals
Greg Bisonette:drums, percussion, backing vocals]
🤘🔥🤘
From: Eat 'em & Smile
[the best "Van Halen" album of 1986😛😛
(even though it ISN'T one. 😜).]
A weed is literally just a plant that is in the wrong place. A rose is a weed if it's in a cornfield.
A dandelion on your lawn is a weed, but a field of wild dandelions is food for the bees.
Just something to think about.
mind blown
solid track indeed.
❤ this is one of my all time favorite songs. Has a special meaning to my life too
This song has a very analog sound, with vocal growl like a Neve's pre-amps, the Fender-Rhodes growling, and that warm embrace of 2" tape...
Produced by Richard Polodor
Worked with the Wrecking Crew on projects from Electric Prunes, Monkees, Three Dog Night. I believe the tune was recorded at Amrican Recording Studios LA
Mike Pinera also joined Iron Butterfly in 1970 and then Ride Captain Ride rose up the charts and he had to split his time between the two bands. Because of this, in the 70's you would find Blues Image opening up for Iron Butterfly in concert, with Mike Pinera on stage with both bands.
Wikipedia says Pinera already left Blues Image before joinging Iron Butterfly.
Dandy lions are the healthiest thing for your heart. Pharmaceutical companies labeled it as a weed, so you buy their products
A lot of great music in my lifetime. Good times.
You will love the song Little Green Bag by the George Baker Selection in 1969. It's a groove and I know you will be grooving to it!
If you like this song....you should hear the flip side of this single "Pay My Dues"......totally different vibe.....more Hendrix like.
Good to see TY!
Speaking of dandelions, try Rolling Stones " dandelion". One of their best lesser known songs
This was Blues Image only big hit in 1970 making them a one-hit wonder. But it is a great song! The various members of Blues Image went on to become parts of other rock bands such as Iron Butterfly, New Cactus Band, Alice Cooper, Three Dog Night, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young & Steppenwolf.
Laughing!! You guys might have been samplin' somethin' today! (just kidding)
Would love to see a reaction to "Midnight at the Oasis".
Dandelion is a hardy perennial flowering plant, not a weed. Dandelion leaves, roots, and flowers may offer health benefits which can include promoting liver health and fighting inflammation. There is even Dandelion wine.
They are good food , health
Classic,,,, might l suggest another LITTLE RIVER BAND classic, check out “ COOL CHANGE “ a vocal masterpiece
TY is back!! 😀
Dandelion tea is great. Liver detox. I drink it all the time. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I remember this song when I was a child. It’s been many years since I’ve heard it.
Great to see u kids again, great pick, so funny , different views❤
Nick looks like he's almost sitting on Ty's lap. Lol. Great song!
When Ty is not around, Nick moves his chair over. Looks like he really didn't want to move it back, lol.
still doing one hit wonders, got a few for ya to consider. Arizona - Mark Lindsay OR Venus - Shocking Blue OR Tighter Tighter - Alive & Kicking OR Love grows where my Rosemary goes - Edison Lighthouse all from 1970. can't beat the 70's & 80's, just can't. happy reviewing to ya
Gentlemen, start your fire extinguishers ..
They need to do "Timothy" by The Bouys.
Interesting. 😊
👍👍👍👍
I heard once that they were in the studio and running out of time because another band was booked (three dog night i believe), but needed another song so they wrote this in less than an hour.
Ty, great to see you!
Try The Ides of March Vehicle!
It wasn’t easy listening it was✌️
One hit wonder (as far as I know): Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
Their song “That’s The Way” reached #16 U.S. in 1989.
In the Meantime by Spacehog. A one hit wonder for sure.
I was 14. Great time to be a teenager. It was so safe back then we could do just about anything and not get in trouble or danger
look up the story behind the song
I always get this confused with I’m Your Captain by Grand Funk Railroad.
I'm Your Captain yeah, yeah, yeah, yeaaaahh.
Grand Funk Railroad
I was 15 when this came out, it was kind of lost in the plethora of amazing music released that year. !973 to 1976 had such an amazing volume of incredible music. You'd go to the record store with enough money for buying two albums, and you'd spend hours decideing what you were going to buy of the near hundred albums you wanted. Shopping in a record store was a very special thing back then if you were a music nut like me.

Solid complimentary choice to "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)" from not long ago. The song is quite interesting as it supposedly tells the story of a ship's crew that is unable to convince the local population to join them in sailing to a safer, better land, only for the boat to become a "mystery ship" that isn't heard from again. It will be fascinating to hear the guys' takes on the song, particularly as I know it's had a lot of viewer support for the marathon.
I could not find any documentation where this song, even though it was a top #5 hit in America, has been sampled. Furthermore, it looks like only 2 recorded covers may have been done up to this point. The best known group or artist to record a cover may be Blood, Sweat, and Tears from the mid 1970s. That cover is the link above. For those that are fans of the band Phish, you likely already know the song has been performed live in concert by the group on several occasions with a Phish website reporting the song has been played around every 115 shows by the group.
As I mentioned above, it will be interesting to get the guys' thoughts on this 1970s signature "one hit wonder." Oh yeah...it's always great to see Ty filling seat #3 to Nick's left yet again and Ryan to Nick's right for this video. Let's keep "the dream team" and this great marathon rocking, friends! 😂
This was not a song I bought...But I didn't change the station either when it came on. 😀
guitar solo at the end just smokes
In the lyrics, the crew invites others to ride to a new land where they will feel free. However, the local people are too preoccupied with life's troubles to hear or answer their call. When the crew sets sail, they are never seen or heard from again. The Captain rides with his crew on a mystery ship, which disappears forever.
Always wondered what that song was really about. And, being gay, I always wondered about the subtext of "73 men sailing off to history" "from the San Francisco Bay."
your version of what happened is not factual in the least, but this is and you should read it en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pueblo_(AGER-2)
This song played all over the radio in the summer of 1970 when I was waiting to start my junior year in high school. I was fortunate to grow up during the '60's and '70's and experience the British Invasion, the singer-songwriters, the big bands with brass and soul, as well as R & B and country rock. May I suggest you guys check out the album "Jeff Beck Group" ('72) and specificslly "Ice Cream Cakes" and "Sugar Cane." Jeff Beck was one of the best rock guitarists who started in the '60's and recorded well into the new millenium with several diferent bands. I love watching your reactions.
Heres a few, Canadian, One Hit Wonders for ya;
"Don't Call Us. We'll Call You." - Sugarloaf (not Canadian...I just like the song.😁)

"Seasons In The Sun" - Terry Jack's 🍁
"Roxy Roller" - Sweeny Todd 🍁
"Eyes Of A Stranger" - Payola$ 🍁
"This Beat Goes On/Switchin' To Glide" - The Kings 🍁

"Steal My Sunshine" - Len 🍁
"Hard Sun" - Indio 🍁
"Sucks To Be You" - Prozzak 🍁

"When the Night Feels My Song" - Bedouin Soundclash 🍁
"Dirty Water" - Rock & Hyde 🍁
"Space Man" Bif Naked 🍁
"Jerk" - Kim Stockwood 🍁
Thanks for the post, Tim. If you look on the "Videos" tab, you should be able to see that the guys did "Seasons in the Sun" earlier in the marathon. I hope it might help. 😀
"Don't Call Us. We'll Call You." - Sugarloaf
Not a one-hit wondr when you consider their song, "Don't Call Us, We'll Call You" was a Top 10 hit in the US in Canada
Fun reaction from the guys and, as always, great to see all three chairs filled with "the dream team." I'm hoping Ty might have recorded anther video or two for the marathon but if not, it was a great surprise gift. 🎁
It seems like I've heard this song 1,000 times in my life but never listened closely until now. I agree with the guys that the lead guitar work is outstanding and I wish the solo wasn't faded in the outro. It's just too good!
I loved the outtake at the end. It would be awesome to see bloopers and other fun stuff. Maybe put together a video for the 50,000 subscriber spectacular?!?! 😂
Nick and Ryan come up with great stuff, but Ty was "fire" on these last two videos. "Mark it down!" is another channel t-shirt for the merch store and I busted out laughing when Ty brought up Merriam-Webster. What other music reaction channel is going to give you a legitimate music breakdown with dandelion and dictionary subtopics? Just too good from the fellas. I had high hopes for the marathon and it has not disappointed so far. 😁
One other thought...just like the guys copyrighting Ryan's Seagulls singing "I Ran" on a beach, they should do the same for a "one man band on a yacht." I could easily see that getting used in a Will Ferrell like comedy movie and it would be a shame if the guys missed out. 😂
Great song
A lot of sea type songs back then. We all had misty eyes and wanted to be seafarers.
Brandy you're a fine girl.
This was a real popular song in the early 70's. Lots of airplay on AM radio. One of Will Ferrel's early movie appearances was in Drowning Mona from about 1993. He played a Mortuary owner. Freaky.
Great reaction! I was 13 when this came out and it played endlessly on the school bus radio.
Would love for you all to check out the one-hit wonder, More Today than Yesterday, by the Spiral Staircase, if you haven't already. Great upbeat, catchy tune!
Thanks for the post and the suggestion, Debbie. I always felt that the song was very underappreciated as it had a terrific low-key soul/pop vibe with great instrumentation. I'm jealous that I didn't think of this song first. 😀
Excellent tune that holds up well more than 50 years later. Really like the tone of the lead singer's voice. It is not easy listening but pop/rock. Just wish it was longer and the guitar outro went on about 20-30 seconds more.
Love the drum groove. In terms of the timeline and history, this belongs in the same bin as Three Dog Night.
Pop music by M, great one hit wonder
Love this even though technically I was 2 when the song came out.❤
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
Great tune!!!
Picture swimming out at Russin river getting high and just chill and enjoy the sunshine and friends
hey man welcome back
ride captain ride
Por, my friend, pot!!. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am new here but when I seen the song you were doing I had to watch. I love this song and listening to it takes me back to JR high and many memories. BTW Blues is a genre of music, and also used to describe a sad emotion.
Great classic song! Nick needs to move over a smidge. Poor Ty is almost smooshed off the screen.
I was thinking the same thing
Ty looks like he's behind Nick. It's weird.
73 dudes got totally hammered, left San Fran, and bumped into Catalina Island.
Hi guys! Just came across you’re channel.Great to see younger folks, appreciating older music.Especially Al Stewart.Try to do his song “Midnight Rocks” if you never heard it,I believe you’ll really love it.
Pairs well with Brandy, You're a Fine Girl
Beach Baby - First Class
They didn’t have one hit wonders.
@@traceycater But their 2 other singles peaked at #74 and #83. Hardly hit songs. If they can review Brandy - Looking Glass (which also hit #33 with Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne), they can review Beach Baby.
Hey now, go easy on us 50 year olds…..Lol!! Love the marathon. Keep it going 😊. Great to see Ty!! 😊😊
Good choice. ❤
If you like "Ride, Captain, Ride," you should also hit "Pay My Dues," which is also by Blues Image. It was the B-side of the single, and I honestly think it is just as good as the A-side. Blackfoot also did a cover of "Pay My Dues" on the Strikes album.
Just subscribed, great stuff guys keep up the good work. You outa try my all time favorite song, Badfingers “Day After Day”, great song !
3:55-4:25 Nick 😂✌🏽👌🏾
The lyrics, oddly, actually refer to the Gulf of Tonkin incident.
Where has that ever been mentioned by the songwriter/band?
@@Coowallsky there was an interview many years ago with one or more of the bandmates. I missed it, but friends told me about it. I wasn't surprised. From the late 60's through the early 70's, there were a handful of popular songs that were thinly veiled Vietnam protest songs and this had been accepted as one. Until explained to me, I didn't get it.
This song was surrounded by mystery and conspiracy theories as it was not long after its release the the USN Pueblo was captured in the Gulf of Tonkin by North Korea. That naval ship left from San Francisco with 73 men on board!!!!!
They were held as prisoners and was a major news story. We finally got the crew back but NK kept the ship!
You guys might find the song a little more mysterious when you take this into consideration…
Good to see you, Ty!!
When did the ship leave San Franciso? The USS Pueblo had 83 crewmen aboard at the time of capture.
Consider this from Wiki when quoting the songwriter..
The number of keys on Pinera's Rhodes piano inspired the song. Pinera said, "Okay, I need a first word. And what came into my head was '73.' I liked the rhythm, and I went, '73 men sailed up, from the San Francisco Bay.'...The song sort of just wrote itself from there."
