This has to be one of the dumbest and manufactured controversies in a good minute. The halftime show was never really about the town where the Super Bowl was held. The Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg halftime show was the closest one to being a west coast-ish type of show but it was more of a hip hop/Dr Dre showcase. Kendrick will probably bring out Lil Wayne out but he’s not obligated to. The whole thing is dumb outrage. Let Kendrick enjoy his victory lap

Kendrick deserved it, end of. This entire discourse is purely emotional, there’s zero logic to it. Wayne sounded entitled af in that IG live, didn’t even at least congratulate Kendrick after expressing his own personal disappointment. What has Wayne done recently to position himself to do a half time show? Poor live performances, poor reputation behind the scenes, no hit songs recently, or cultivated momentum, no press run, no album, nothing. But him being from NO means he should headline, when that’s never been the case for the SB. What is the potential set list, that fits that audience and advertisers? Nicki is crying cus that’s her only chance to get on that stage. This is complete manufactured outrage

@@BartholomewConstantine Sabrina Carpenter and Shakira can actually perform, regardless if you like their music. They have the conditioning to put on a show, Wayne doesn’t. Wayne is one of the greatest artists of all time, but he’s not a great performer and he’s even worse now.

@@IamFirtyDucker this wayne can't perform thing is shameless bc you're nit picking low stakes performances that he shows up high to and act like that is representative
also these artists regularly have massive productions and dancers with them to boost performance they aren't beyonce. Wayne doesn't do they usually so you're saying he's a bad performer. Acting like he wouldn't also have a massive production for the SUPERBOWL
Kendrick mostly raps in one spot and walks a few paces here and there while his background performers make the set look vibrant as they should then kendrick dances around at the hook. I'm not taking anything away from kendrick but comparing his well thought out grammys performance to a random lil wayne performance where it's just him and a mic is shameless. And don't act like wrestlemania is high states noone even knew they had a half time performance til last week

@@BartholomewConstantine like any position you want reputation and having a portfolio to go with it will get you the job, entitlement is at an all time high. Wayne if he really wanted the Super Bowl should’ve built a public portfolio of great performances to show that he can. Usher did when he was in Vegas. You sound ridiculous. Kendrick has The Big Steppers tour, his Amazon show, the pop out and his last superbowl performance. If you think that is comparable to Wayne you’re completely delusional and I have nothing more to say

The way Nicki, Master P, Birdman and Juvenile was talking, you would think they were the ones who got Wayne out of debt... I was shocked by Birdman especially, because he screwed Wayne and left him for nothing after Wayne left Cash Money... Jay Z was the only one who was truly there for Wayne but some people used this narrative as a buffer to spite Kendrick and Wayne jumped in because it was a wave that he could utilize to get back into the conversation.

The music isn’t even family friendly that y’all talking about. And I agree that people coming for Kendrick before he even creates his own vision. It’s very disappointing. The Super Bowl isn’t even paid and people behaving like it’s an award.
If the outrage made sense the people being outraged should be able to list prior acts. That nobody remembers Rihanna was just last year or that Shakira and J Lo were performers says a lot. The outrage assumes that the stage belongs to a black performer or even that because Jay involved it has to be a rap act. At the end of the day that’s the problem, that so many feel entitled instead of grateful.

➡Shaun Harrison, Art Director of the Grammy’s quotes: "I've 'worked with' Lil Wayne before for Grammy performance and personal feelings that would be the biggest mistake ever putting him as the headliner for the biggest performance of the year The Super Bowl," Harrison wrote. "He showed up to zero rehearsals we didn't even think he would make the performance then last minute he was in the building and ran on stage for the performance and ran off back into oblivion lol. Never even got to meet him after week of rehearsals for a show. Kendrick Lamar is one of the greatest rap performers ever and unapologetically black in his message and it's during black history month, it's going to be a spectacle!" In a follow-up post on his Instagram Story, Harrison further argued: "Not to mention Dr. Dre is the only to be from the state the Super Bowl is in... so the argument is moot, that's never been a prerequisite."

➡ My take. At the end of the day, the NFL is a top-tier business entity with hopes of going global. They are behind flag football being in future Olympics. why would they want anyone who looks like Post Malone or Lil Wayne representing their brand on an international broadcast? They both look drugged out and dirty. Skid row vibes. And that’s the truth. Did you see his wrestlemania performance? And what songs could he sing for 15 minutes where every other word doesn’t have to be bleeped out or edited? A consummate professional with showmanship, someone with attention to detail, a disciplined focus and a relatively family friendly discography was chosen.

Lil Wayne is the GOAT but come on! If you've seen Lil Wayne's performance at the WWE, then you'd obviously know why Kendrick was chosen. And Lil Wayne is said to very unprofessional behind the scenes. He's said to be late during rehearsals, he forgets his lyrics, he's been known to have an anger problem and lashes out at staff, he performs drunk and he is not the same performer he once was. He is legendary rapper but he is definitely not a great live performer unlike Kendrick. Just look at his performance during the SuperBowl Halftime show with Dr Dre. Or his performance at SNL or at the Grammys. Kendrick can and will definitely put on a better show than Lil Wayne.

I like how everyone just skipped over the biggest part of this whole conversation. Jay Z helped the NFL pull off the biggest Jedi mind trick. It got us to stop focusing on the blatant racism and misconduct to players of color. They had us spoon fed with artists for one half time show. Now the conversation is people of color arguing with each other about which black millionaire capitalist deserves to perform for a predominantly white artist. Isn’t that nuts? Nobody even talks about NFL racism that goes on to this day. And honestly I look at Kendrick differently. We cannot call out artists like Jay and Beyoncé for cosplaying but because we love Kendrick now he gets a pass.

Yes, Kendrick gets a pass. The man is changing the game, while performing at one of the worlds largest games.
Let's not forget that Dot gave us the anthem to our current racial tensions, and police brutality, with "Alright".
Regarding the players: Who is supposed to speak up for them, if they're still playing, and not speaking up for themselves? They are NOT voiceless.

So Jay Z was enough for artists to start jumping on stage for a predominantly white. Idc if 10 million people are watching. That benefits him and him alone. @@clflamez6861 I couldn't find the quote that you speak of. But regardless, Kendrick supporting Kaepernick's stance, and boycotting the NFL are two completely different things. I think that you are missing the bigger scheme of things. No halftime show is going to change the NFL...No matter who performs.
If all those NFL players are still willing to play, while being "so mistreated", and without Kaepernick, then why should someone that's not in the NFL need to take a stronger stance? The players could quickly change things, if they stood/"kneeled" in solidarity in protest.
Also, where do you get your SB viewership demographic data from, because I know that people of ALL races watch it, faithfully.

He is not the best candidate at this time. I am hopeful he somehow cleans himself up (I suspect one of the loud crybabies is a big piece of why he is in the condition he is in now). Maybe he can secure a performance if he cleans himself up and it helps his memory.
