Everything in Greece is a gamble my friend. It's not a national sport it's intertwined in everything we do. Starting a business in Greece is a gamble, going to the hospital is a gamble, crossing the street is a gamble, etc. There is a lot of uncertainty in Greece in just about everything we do. This is also the main reason why Greeks thrive everywhere else in the world - because we've been undergoing rigorous daily training throughout our lives in the most unpredictable circumstances 🤣

I'm Greek and I hate gambling.
OPAP was the State's official sports gaming - lotary organisation (a monopoly), with 4-5 simple games.
During the financial crisis, it was sold for peanuts to a Holding company and now is mostly owned by "Allwyn international" (which operates in Czechia, Austria, Greece, Cyprus, Italy and the UK). OPAP now has a small casino on almost every other corner...
But I don't think that we're bigger gamblers than the British or the Chinese 😁 !!!

Yeap but not the way Greece introduced when it started the game. Britain's representatives from the company that organizes the game there came to OPAP to find out why there are so frequently winners despite the fact that our population is six times less than of UK's. And they were briefed for the many types of systems we use to play the game with many combos of different numbers at the time.

I hope your content to be respectful and caring toward the country, its people and the culture. I 've been seeing a lot of foreigners moving to Hellas and making videos and creating YT channels using Hellas' name.
Please stop repeating the same thing about the so called crisis. The government back then committed treason and sold our resources and wealth to foreign funds.
PS No offense, but whoever thinks Hellas is only about feta, Santorini and all these stereotypes is ignorant.
Enjoy your time and be respectful.

Ohhh come on. I am a Greek and far more versed than you what went wrong with finances of the Greek state. My sister used to be working in a bank in its command and she saw from the 90s what was going on and resigned and got an even better job and now is a Dean in a school in Cyprus. Also a very good friend of mine has a daughter a very versed accountant in Bank of Greece. The problem is that people like you don't want to admit that at least 4 DELOR packages were thrown literally out of the window without be invested as they SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Only a good portion of Cretans in Crete invested well and now own business making good money from wine olive oil and vegetables from especially productive greenhouses. Many more people in Larissa and Thessaliniki either spend money on expensive cars or clothing or jewellery or in night clubs or in bouzoukis trying to impress cheeks which they spoiled with very expencive gifts. Almost everybody thought that suddenly trees grow that make money !!!! And then came the huge packages in modernizing the Greek army Navy and Airforce Which was necessary unfortunately for Greece to procure this equipment. Or in the need of making hospitals better and National Health System (ΕΣΥ) more reliant and beneficially doctors were employed and many of them saw a chance to get rich from writing drugs to patients that didn't need them but they got commissions from the companies selling them. The final stone was set with the Olympic games that stupid wealthy arrogant woman had the idea that we should claim to organise. She may have failed for the 1996 games but on 2004. All but very few of us were spelled to get them knowing that none organisation had achieved profit from them only huge debts. And four years later when dust come down the bubble burst in the most nasty way.
