Based on pictures, it looks like those dimpled/recessed areas on the engine cover are indeed for the Boxter. There are pins/brackets (presumably for the top) in those recessed areas on a 986/987.
Really excited to see how you get on with this bud. If all of the CAN integration and such goes well to make the car happy this will be an awesome conversion.
For the k24z7 I wonder how the Makspeed manifold would fit it looks like it might be smaller than the prl manifold, or theres a sidewinder style made by TSM race that looks like it would fit nicely
Nick, would you please show us a k-series and transmission (in transverse) next to the Porsche motor and transmission, so we can see the side-by-side for size? Then, turn them each 90 degrees and show the difference in size front-to-back (in situ). Also, please! What is the weight between a fully dressed, with trans, K24/K20, and the Porsche motor and trans? I know you weighed the car, and showed motors in the prior videos, but one dedicated episode of comparing the drivetrains would be epic (and get a billion views!) Thanks!
@tuning by nick can you tell me parts needed 2 swap new k24 into old k24 tsx, i remember u going over this in one of your videos and i dont remember which one it was
I was never able to find an actual glass engine cover, they're all polycarbonate. If you go that route just be aware of how close the exhaust manifold will be, as it may be too hot and warp or discolor the clear cover.
@@tuningbynick however, it also does sit higher than you pointed to in the video, it seals very close to the top of the plastic trim, and doesn't sit on that metal lip. I'm excited to see this project move forward. I'm enjoying the reactions from both porsche and honda purists. :)
This is fascinating. I'm following a couple other builds using the Audi V8 as well (bolts straight to the 987 trans) but a new subframe. Options .... Very interested to see what ecu you plan to use and what the impact would be on the rest of the systems in the car. Are you building this to be a track or Street car?
Hi. This might be a stupid question, but what would keep the bottom of the engine from coming back until the axle can pass through the original space? That would tilt the engine forward, but is there space to do that?
You mention that swapping to the K series for more power than the 3.4L flat 6 Porsche engine? How so to get more power from the K series without boost than the OEM Porsche engine? I would love to know so I can do that to my kswap Civic cheaply?
So my sidewinder manifold has the wastegate coming out of the top of it. Its an OLD peakboost manifold but i bet it would work well especially with the glass panel on the top. You can see it here when humble tuned it. ruclips.net/video/1hOdOz5gs3U/видео.html
That’s what I heard, I don’t see how. I could see it costing that much initially, since they have to produce custom parts and have them made, but I’d be a bit surprised if, once it’s a kit (🤞🏽) ,it’d be more than 10k.
@@BlackyBrownDestruction9337 He said the initial cost of the swap is about $25k. If I were to put $25k, I'll add a little bit more $$$ and have a rebuild Carrera 3.8L motor instead of the 2.0 Honda motor. Got to have $$$ to play with Porsches.
one does not want a swap that demands a glass engine cover. the road noise these cars create is already excessive. trust me, i know. a solution to a blown engine on these cars that involves a bullet proof comparable engine would be well-received.
As a Cayman owner...this does have a taste of sacrilege! But, as a Cayman owner...I completely understand why this is being pursued.. Replacement OEM engines, or rebuilds, are ungodly expensive!! That being said...you have many instances ahead, where you'll have to explain why your 987 doesn't have that 'delicious' Flat 6 sound. hahaha
Thanks for the comment. Many 997 owners have said the same to me about my 911. As for the sounds. I get the concern. However the turbo sounds my 911 makes with Honda engine - In my opinion are better. But, to each there own.
@@tuningbynick No Honda turbo engine sound can compare to that flat 6 Porsche engine sound. It is so distinctive that you can hear it from miles away(for me, many corners away on the track) and you know it is a Porsche coming.
K series are such great engines awesome build and excited to watch more of this build 💯
Honda makes some of the best engines on the planet haters gonna hate.
Yup LS3 is done fit and makes 500hp so that sucks because I have a K24-A2 and wanted this to work. No updates in 2 years 😢
I had a clear engine cover on my Cayman and the noise was ridiculous. The stock cover + carpet do a very good job of insulating the noise
This is well worthy of a subscription ... watching with interest.
Nice explanation for the axle solution. I'm stoked for the kit!

Really enjoying this Nick. Keep it up 👍
Love this build!!! How much ballpark will your subframe kit cost?
Looking forward to see how you find the space required. Really interesting build 👌
Could call this the Kayman, surely someone has mentioned it already
Kpower just came out with a manifold for a K24Z3 maybe that would work?

This shit is amazing!! I love my rsx type s motor and now am amped to see these in outher cars!
K power industry makes a timing cover for the k24z3/7 that puts a hole for the older k crank sensors.

I can’t wait for the update 😬
Nick do you have any more updates on the kayman? lol.. I can't wait. I was going to ls swap my boxster but changed my mind. I love honda!!
try the head or just manifold from a k23 from 07-12 acura rdx
NICK! Where is this thing?!?!
I can make you a custom mainfold if needed Nick
looks like a bump in the road but it might be time to invest in making your own manifolds, then all the profit is yours, keep er going guys

possibly a TSX turbo manifold might clear
Do you think that a n/a headers would fit with a kraftwerks race kit.
Will you try to test the engine longitudinally with the porsche trans?
great option for Cayman owners. I wonder, would the Subaru STI engine fit using the stock Transmission?

I was at Hasport a couple months ago. You can fit a K20c turbo on the r40 heads. You think that would enough space in there?
Maybe - If i can get my hands on one of those i will definitely test fit it
Can you tell me the cost of the subframe roughly?
Honestly too soon to know. I will definitely let you guys know as soon as we figure it out
Going transverse is crossing the line to destroy the cayman image... lol
Cayman price through the roof now, 😭
what about a custom log type turbo mani?
K series engines really dont like log manifolds. You usually sacrifice 100hp when compared to running a good quality high flow manifold.
Kayman!
Did you just say this swap could cost 25k?

what happened to this project?
Hmmm... Would a J-series fit?
Owning a ep3 while watching this lol 👀
Was that computer box, the most expensive part for these swaps?
Was like 7000$ if not mistaken?
The Syvecs ECU in my 911 was that much. But there are much more reasonably priced ECUs. Ill be discussing the ECU im using in an upcoming video.
Only other motor swap i"d say is better than a K series is an electric motor.
Wanna sell that prl manifold to me?👀
Run a competition how many times you say turbo manifold😅
are caymans sneakily cooler than 911s, or am I just fooling myself because they are cheaper?
KMAN 😁👏
You can't not have some sort of transparent engine bay cover if you're doing a mid-engine K-swap. That would just be lacking spirit!
$1000 > $25000. That's why.
Really? That swap cost $1K?

Rather see a Supercharged Audi 3.0 V6 from the S4. Easily 450bhp, and lighter than the Porsche engine coming out..
That would be interesting. I hope someone else tries and does that swap.
Number one reason to put a honda engine in a German is RELIABILITY!!! Something german have no clue.
