Thanks for the explanation! Had the same happen when doing some logs - wot 3rd to 4th gear. Reflashed and turned it off. Drove around for a month or two and reflashed drag mode back in a gain to feel it out. Shifts so damn strong, really changes the character of the car and makes the turbos feel so much punchier. Probably playing with fire and will turn it off again until I service the seals and solenoids and just go with the Sutphin tune.
The custom tune has some huge advantages. He can basically tune the aggression to max your setup before slip. Unlike drag mode, which just maxes the gear box.
I had a similar but worse shifting issue when I had the sutphin trans tune, to the point were after the 3-4 shift the trans would drop out of gear and the engine revved up to 8000rpm. Turned out the engine tuner didn't use the correct torque tables for the trans tune. I went with Ken and he worked with Sutphin to get my car dialed in.
Ken is the goat & Sutphin is the only dude doing custom trans tunes who everyone talks about the same way they talk about Ken. I'd say that with those two as your tuners, the only time your car will get out of line is when it finally lets go (hopefully years from now).
Had the same problem on zf6hp28. 4th to 5th gear, it didn't slip into gear just over rev the engine. M57 750ishnm. Removed drag mode, shifted fine only slower.
I've had drag mode on my zf8 since it came out. I did just turn it off last week. I'd love to keep running it but I need to figure out what I'm going to do when this trans goes. Funny you’re having these problems with XHP, I’ve been having problems with my car and I’m putting it also to XHP. My car is DCT, I’m on my second box as my first one clutches were slipping in certain instances and then I went to overtake on the highway and suddenly my box started grinding in a few gears. Not sure what exactly failed, but we put a lower km box in and serviced it. Since putting the new box in, XHP has been flashed again and I’m noticing that I cannot for the life of me get launch control set up, and the other night I went to get the car on the brake, car just slipped the crap out of the clutches again and I think I’m at my whits end with XHP.
I have a built zf6 from Nizpro, there is a reason for that and why they beef the clutches , stick them in a billet forged clutch basket and have both shafts replaced by forged billet units. Stock Zf6 dont like big power. The XR6s have the big brother version and they also die. Drag mode isnt the issue here.
Drag mode is why it slipped and didnt throw an error. You turn drag mode off, it pulls torque on the shift and wont slip like it was. BUt you are right this trans is a weak trans in the grand scheme of things. The nizpro upgrades would likely mean it can still run in drag mode at this power level.

Hi mate I wonder if you can help me. I’ve got a couple of questions. I have a Bmw e63 645 that’s supercharged making 530hp and 425ftlbs. It’s got the zf6hp26. The car can make 570hp with 460ftlbs if I put the smaller pulley on however there only appears to be data in the ecu for upto 600nm. If I watch the live gearbox data every time the car calculated over 600nm -100nm flashes up and the car opens all the clutches. Only to then flick back to 599nm and slam them all shit again. So it’s basically clutch kicking a 500hp can flat out. I’ve ruined one gearbox like this so then put the smaller pulley on and it’s been fine. It sits around 580nm calculated so just under the 600 limit. Sorry for the long message now onto the questions. Have you watched the live data with the car in drag mode? Does it change the torque calculation? Or if I keep the car in 530hp mode Do you think the zf6hp26 will handle 425ftlbs in drag mode? Very helpful videos mate Thanks for any help
