Oh no .. I'm sorry to see this man. The most I wind up a customer's car on twins is 26-27 psi at the top of the rev range,and I try to bring it gradually past the midrange in 24-25 to not bend stuff and I open it up past 5800, similar to what a single does.
The lope at idle can be a broken spark plug porcelain or gap closed a bit from a knock event. Might not be a motor, sure hope not.
If I may weigh in on the build direction, the 6AT can handle this power , I have customers even on an alpina tune running 26 27 psi. My own car with a single runs 31-32 psi on xhp, and my rev limiter is at 7500 . Motor can handle this power if u gradually feed boost past the midrange. U dont have to wind it down or do a zf8, just rebuild ur trans and if it's the motor slap on a new rod/piston and run it with "moderate" midrange.
This is hotrodding man, shit happens , u fix it and enjoy it .
I think we are on the same page. Speaking of the 6at handling the power. Have you ever seen a 6at do a 5.5 100-200 at full weight? All the cars i have seen in the area are built 6ats. This trans was fine at a 5.8, but when the power was wound up and we did the 5.5 the trans was slipping at that point. So im guessing with out trans slip it would have been closer to a 5.3 100-200. Whats the fastest 100-200 you have seen on a stock 6at?
@@ZeroTo60Tube but even at 5.8 it was slipping slightly iirc. And it started off being a not too perfect trans in the vargas days. Your 5th holds the power, that clutch is weaker than the 4th usually , so if ur 5th grips ur 4th will when new I believe. I do a consistent 5.8 in my 1670kg e92 (with merch and stuff for sale in the boot) it holds 760whp in my case. I say rebuild it and try without drag mode(standard xhp tune no mods)with line bump. Cheapest way out. Haven't personally seen less than 5.6 on a full weight e92 with a stock engine and trans, but no one serious about going that fast doesn't drop some weight to help it a long. Then again ur car is a couple hundred kg or so less than a e92 it might just be possible.
@@HassanEido1 thanks for the info. This power level and weight, must be right on the limits. We'll see, we'll see. If the motor needs to come out, might look at just throwing some clutches in the trans for now.

@@HassanEido1 @Hassan Eido hmmmm maybe, but again 5.5 while slipping the whole of 4th gear. This should be a low 5's car with a decent trans at this power level and then wind it up some more. The tune we ran at the track was more aggressive than the 5.5 slipping trans dragy run tune. If i had seen someone else even with a single turbo run a 4.9 on a stock trans i would be more tempted to try the 6at again, but i have just never seen one this quick before. Let alone reliable and this quick. Just as a reference that commodore we race in this vid is 840whp without nitrous and he was running nitrous at rolls. The flowmax car pulls away in 3rd, but then slows down in 4th. I say it in the video, but i dont think many people grasp how quick the car is.
I read a few comments about swapping the Flow Max turbos onto the E92. From a cost point of view it's not that bad an idea. If the issue is as you suspect then fix the engine using stock parts and put the 17T turbos onto the E90. While you're there you could also swap brakes as you have said the new ones feel a lot better. You would end up with a good daily E92, and a good 17T E90 to sell. OHHRLY would then be the fully built single for rolls/drags. Is having 2 single turbo cars worth the expense? Would the DCT in the E92 handle the extra power from the Flow Max turbos a lot better? Just food for thought...
Came in to say this, 17T on the E90 and sell it. Flowmax on the E92.

Would be good to see the limit of the flowmax turbos. Personally I'd put in stronger rods, use stock pistons but ceramic coat. We have done this with a supra and were amazed how much more timing it could take.
I think this would be the way to go, then find a replacement stock trans, rebuild/upgrade the broken one and have it ready to swap back in if necessary.

@@Boss-uk6gh Brother I feel your pain, I sold my 04 Acura tl 4 months ago and got 07 335i, and I had never heard of a single injector for 3-4 hundred dollars.500.00 coolant pump that has to be replaced more than sparkplugs!Feels like these cars should come with a backup car.
So sorry to see/hear. For next time short shifting is authorized as an option. I hope you had a log of that. Do a build, real rods and pistons, new bearings and seals and send that thing. Values aren't going down on these cars and a documented build is worth something. Good luck yall.
Not sure if you know this trick when compression testing, test it with the engine hot, write down the numbers for each cylinder. Assuming its #4 that's down, drop about a teaspoon of oil down the spark plug hole, wind the motor over a couple of times, then retest. If the compression raises, it's a bottom end issue, if it stays the same the issue is in the top end. Sucks that this happened though, hopefully it is something simple in the top end to save the rest of it.
Just send it, fully build the engine. There's way too many single turbos out there. Bob the builder the thing and run as much HP as possible on a twin turbo and I'll watch all your videos 4 times each 😂

Thanks man, we try to be a bit more real and what i think is a real car guy, unlike a lot of channels, that just create videos for clicks. We play with cars and make videos while we do that. The issue is things very rarely go to plan lol.
Well I had commented before I'd watched it but I couldn't leave that one up after watching. My heart is breaking for you guys and for the hope I know I had for this build. I never thought the engine would go. I want this build to just continue but I also want you guys to be happy. Above what the people want (As shown after the "Send it decision" lol) your dreams and goals are what it needs to be all about. As well as pocket books. Personally I want you to throw a new piston in it and the trans and try to continue this journey. But turning it down really doesn't do much but make it the road car it always could be even without the Max Turbos. I wish I could donate the cash to just let you guys continue to "Send it". Well at least you don't have to go through engines and transmissions like Cleetus. So sorry guys. Just heart broken for you.

Heat/heat soak is always gonna be an issue need to put in bonnet vents on all 3 cars and even run a headlight intake on roll racing nights. I'd personally fix it cheaply and sell it and focus on oh really make it even more insane oh and film the all the build like the pulling apart and putting together even show what goes wrong
Sorry to see the engine damaged. I guess having the stock engine sitting on 7,000+rpm for all that time in 4th gear at 28psi boost would have the rods crying in pain trying to stay straight. It could be a blown head gasket between cylinder 4 and 5 as cylinder 5 was down as well. As you said for a built engine and a stronger transmission, it is going to cost at least $15,000. You need to assess the damage first and decide later what you are going to do.
I installed the China version or Viv version of your turbos recently. My lumpy cam idle started after the turbos were installed. After install I did the fluid change in the tranny and when the temp reached 40c degrees is when it first started. Sounds just like your car exactly! I'm also losing 4th gear. So I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for your follow up video hoping you have some good news.
When the ring land breaks they smoke like crazy, that's my experience. I'd agree with your bent rod suspicion, seen that with RB30 too. Didn't you have maxspeed rods about?

I had broken ringland in two of four pistons and there was no smoke from exhaust, but from crankcase breather hose

Sad to see guys.Hats off to you,as by doing what you’re doing with this platform ,its really showing what some of the limits are,or can be when the power is cranked up.Would you consider meth injection?Have it on my pure stage 2 wagon setup.I have found it lasts a long time between top-ups,quite cheap to run.Only reason I say this is that your air-temps in OZ get bloody high.I feel it adds a bit of a safety net for me,it’s satisfying to see iats drop,cool down.👍
My opinion is to go forged rods and pistons coupled with something like an 8hp70.
And it’s of course a financial question. It won’t be cheap or an easy solution but it will be the only option that will last in the long run!
If you do just one of them you will still be limited by the other. And i know it Will feel frustrating having a great set of turbos and not being able to use them to their full potential!

My opinion. Build a solid motor and 8HP gearbox. Continue to develop the setup until the turbos are maxed out then throw all the good gear into Oreally with the single turbo. I would rather see you guys focus on one solid build then spread yourself thin over 2/3 builds.
Great content guys just love how raw everything is. Regarding your options, I think everyone would love to see what the total capabilities are of the BMW if you spent the cash. However, Being sensible you can sell and do the other project. You will always wonder what you could have achieved.
Either way I'm sure what you do it's gonna be fast I'd just keep it to a reasonable expectation so you can focus on the car you want to the most (I take it that's ohreally) and we'll you've once again shown me how laggy my junk is again and how fast those things are again.. looking forward to seeing the outcome either way 😊🤘

Please build the motor 🙏🏻🙏🏻 drop CR ratio with MAHLE 9.5 pistons and stronger rods Power comes on much smoother and it’s a safer engine , don’t worry there is no loss in spool time and engine runs much cooler
Gutted for you guys! I really love the e90 build!! But if I were in your shoes I would fix it cheap, wind it down and sell it! Maybe sell the rx8’s too 🤷🏻♂️ all to fund the main build.. Single turbo monster!!

Man they make some power. And you can stress your motor with them that’s for sure. Clearly. This motor was far from mint. So it may have been an underlying issue. But be ready to have some fun that’s for sure.

Set of maxspeed rods and pistons prob same price as an engine. Strip it down. If bores are good, quick hone. Genuine set of China rods and pistons. Keep it at current power level. Put on marketplace. Sell for bulk coin and rebuild oreally

Absolutely. The struggle is what makes it all worth while when you do sort it out. If it just worked perfectly straight away, where would the real satisfaction lie.
Swap the flowmaxes to the 17t and give it upgraded internals. I know you want to go single on the 17t but what's the point in having ohrly and the 17t being single?
Sell the rx8s for the funds ... They're just blending into the lawn for the moment and it's not like you don't have enough projects.
My personal goal would be to have a stupid fast daily (17t) and a drag toy (ohrly) both on built motor.
Or you could just sell the 17t and keep the lighter E90 😋
Ah... really bad luck there guys. But, definately put on a brave show given the hurt. The stock trans dont live with the torque, its far beyond them internals wise. You will even find a few folk who have fresh stock trans rebuilds with so called level 10 trans upgrades and even brand new wind up like yours. The motor may not be cactus , unless you are hearing rod knock? But, with that idle and the over rev you want to check the crank hub(the perfect condition for it to go)If it slipped just a touch your idle timing will be out, causing idle issues. Maybe you can save it?
It was super hot on Friday night too, I recorded 100°C IAT’s for a split second coming out of turn 6 in 3rd gear. I was able to get back down into the 30°’s by hosing the intercooler every 2nd or 3rd run.

It looks like the trans self money shifted at 2:41, seems like the selector number went back down to third at almost the top speed of 4th gear? Wouldn't be surprised if a little bit of over rev also caused some damage to the 4th cylinder :(
Yep looks like that N54 hit 8k RPMs… RIP to the Rod bearings and rods.
It slipped through gear. Didn’t feel like a money shift. However it did money shift when drag mode was turned off.
Sell the rx8 and other yard ornaments first. Then, do a piston/rod swap on the affected cylinder and be more careful about pushing it in the future. Keep in mind, huge loses like this on youtube typically lead to nice increases in subscriptions. Hope that's the case and good luck and I hope it's coil wiring or plug.

Put a stock motor back in it. And swap a 6hp28 in it. Cheapest option for sure. Same setup im running and I’ve been running for a while and my motor is 155k miles and hasn’t blown up.
Sorry about the trans and the engine. But look at it this way. This is an opportunity to push the limits and set more records. You don't put flow max + on a car to not go fast. I'm sure everyone is wanting to see the full potential of a twin turbo n54, and in depth engine build videos and testing could give you a whole years worth of quality content that I would actually watch because I want to build my engine and upgrade trans and chuck these same turbos on. I've just been waiting for someone to post some in depth videos because I don't know what I'm doing. You guys have already covered going the cheap route and there would be little content or satisfaction putting in a stock motor and turning down the boost. I think you guys know this and the only real question is how to come up with the money.
Put the flow max turbos on the 17t car - slap the flow max car back together and offload it..

Same thing happened to me with my flow max+ with port, trans slipped and went out of gear and banged the limiter like 7800 rpm and I ended up hurting my motor before I swapped out my trans fluid. Hopefully everything is good in your case but my car did sound like yours as well

Contact max speeding rods get a set robs arp bolts pistons cap the rings to near the end of what factory recommended (help stop the rings nipping up with the extra heat.

If anything the turbos are pushing too much air. The non plus version could be tuned to be so linear I reckon. And they will easy do 500bhp.

Put it back together with 2nd hand parts and sell it with 17T turbos and keep Daw turbos. Sell dct as a swap kit. Build a e92 or e82 or e89 with DAW and 8hp transmission 😅 Maybe sell mazdas, too

You have too many 335i trying to go fast. What I would do is swap the flow max's and other go fast bits onto the 17t car, make that the 600-650whp reliable daily and just focus on making the single turbo car fast. Sell the broken 335i as is after the swap. If you still plan on pushing the 6AT platform I really recommend hitting up Rod Stuphin, he is pleasant to work with just like Ken
I keep posting that here but it keeps deleting Rod sutphin he’s very good tuner with transmission I have is tune and it’s night and day

Gutted for ye lads. To chase the numbers ye are looking for with the ambient temps that ye live in you need to build and forge that engine. Work on the IAT temps plus you need a stronger more efficient gearbox. Cost index is high for a build like this but then ye can really achieve your goals. Best of luck with it lads 🤞

Hey that socks so bad. I blew my motor on 17t as well before but I know it's because it had too much boost too early 30 psi. Now I have the flow max plus and I gradually increased the boost so it still spool way faster then single but have a lot of boost for top end. Been going strong for a year almost and same transmission. The drag mode Def hurt the Trans and too much torque, this is pretty much a limit for full weight n54 I guess. Only removing weight is the only other option edit: or partial build the motor haha!!

That sux…..those big heavy intercoolers heat soak like crazy…to be honest you probably want something smaller for roll racing as the car sits stationary between runs and can’t reject the heat unlike a track or hard road driving. I also think the twins make too much boost too early, I would like the option to spool the turbos later using the wastegates as you just invite superknock and massive cylinder pressures with so much mid range. Perhaps it’s time to rationalise your n54 stable…..n54’s are like wives, one is generally enough and two will bankrupt you!

fingers crossed its just a rod, if it is i suggest rebuilding it with just new oem parts plus maxspeeding rods and amp44 pistons, idk why that would be 15k but id love to see that, and about the transmission, definetly 8hp
About 8-9k for a trans swap and then about 5-6k for a engine build.
So what do we use for out 6AT? Auto/manual transmission
I think just get a good set of aftermarket rods pistons and main bearings and get a new box you’ve come this far
If you really think it’s from the excessive heat it would be good to get your tuner to build on some safety’s that pull you back then… but let’s see what the piston and rods say…
In my view Please put rods and pistons in it to show how to build a safe engine pushing flow maxes to their limit. Or even better if it is cheap China rods!

I would say I would love to see how fast a daily can get. Full interior, dialed in you could do a road trip on it if you wanted to. And then also, see a full send n54. no interior, runs when it wants to but it doesn't matter. IDK just my thought.
dont you have those Maxxpeeding rods? where are those going? can they be put in the car with 6 stock pistons?. yes the pistons can crack at high temp, but they didn't necessarily cause the failure

m because n54 335i content if my car have problem with the trans I will not even drive it this is how I think and for the engine I will rebuild it stronger upgrade the parts but it depends how good everything is inside and if you can miss the money and I heard you also saying about build ohhrly,s if you do put the flow max turbo in ohhrly 😇
That sucks. My personal opinion. Take the go fast bits off, go the cheapest fix and off it. Put the Flomax's on the 17t car and then focus on what you really want to make go fast.
I think manual swap and n54 drifting content is needed next 😎

@@sbock1988 I have no doubt on a cooler night it would have been fine. The heat we were in is crazy and the vid doesn't really show it. I feel like hot lapping ohhrly in the heat was the reason it let go as well. Also keep in mind this motor is old as, and was not well looked after.
Sounds like you cracked a ringland between the compression rings

You guys own to many cars with to many issues, no idea how you afford all these but for me you need to slim down the N54 fleet, and build engines to cope with what you're trying to do.
This 4 door N54 is so fast it's almost dare I say made 'oh really' a little pointless. Few decisions to be made guys, not an easy one....
mine sounded like this and i checked rough running value and it was bad but it ended up being a injector seal that was causing low compression 130 psi
Absolutely could be, but cyl 4 got a new injector seal yesterday. Would yours smooth out when you brought it up off idle

Did you buy rods for a car in the past and not used them yet? I say use those if the pistons are still ok and the cylinder wall is ok. I would also watch an engine teardown video with whatever kind of repair you want to do.

@@ZeroTo60Tube Yeah but looks like you're gonna need a stand alone tcu to control it because it's VIN locked 😒...well there are still more options out there such as the 6hp28 and 8hp45 but whatever you guys go with I'll be sure to follow intensely as I'm chasing similar power levels!
Might as well build it and throw some Schrick cams in at this point. I don't think I've seen any N54 channels with a cam. And who wants to replace broken parts with stock parts?

Sorry to see this guys, but to be honest Andrew you said it yourself the cars get heat soaked at these events and at this time of year its even worse, but we were all so focused on what the gearbox was going to do we forgot about the risks to the engine in these conditions. Add to this you were in send it mode and wound up the boost... something was bound to go wrong, we just didn't expect it to be both engine and gearbox, mistakes happen. My opinion lets see whats wrong with it and if you have the parts to fix it lets do that, but as far as the gearbox and budget is concerned why not try a 6hp28 instead, i know its more involved but you have the parts required from the 6hp21 to make the 6hp28 fit, a few other mods required but in theory shouldn't be too expensive. I know i know the timeframes don't fit with the plans, but nobody expected this car to be this fast and its been quite entertaining, i think O'Really can wait. Whatever you do, we all support you, your content is fire as always 🔥🔥

197000kms 28psi it was a ticking timebom unfortunately... Crazy that it was basically due to a slipping gearbox. Lesson should be learned here. Leaving your gearbox slipping/broken it costed you your engine. Same can happen with injectors
Ahhhh, dont forget the holes in the oil filter when we got the car. The heat on the night. The more aggressive tune. I was out to hurt the trans. The slipping trans really hid how hard the motor was pushing.
