This is how a legitimate ice machine works... a little tweaking and you have quality ice. This is a scaled down version of the Manitowoc ice machines used in hotels. I want one... and an old fashioned.
We have one of these bought about 2 years ago. Probably a different brand name. (It's at our lake house.) It does make sort of clear ice from tap water. Around every 12 to 15 minutes it makes a tray. What I don't like about ours and probably yours, it doesn't store the ice well. It is wet ice. Slowly melting as you hold it. If you use it right away, it works fine.
You are a genius, when questioned by my wife, 'on why I am drinking whiskey at 10am in the morning', I can argue the case for investigative science, 'ice comparison test' shall be my defense from now on.
Keep in mind clear ice isnt possible if your water supply is super hard. Use bottled or RO. Not hydroviv or fridge filters, those dont remove hard minerals. NO clear ice units can make clear ice outta hard water without an RO system
Get a reverse osmosis system for water and it should clear mostly everything. A lot of those fridge taps are not great tbh… anyway great vid! If I had more counter top real estate I’d be interested in something like it
FYI: Have used this ice maker for going on 2 years as primary ice source in my home. Best water to use clearest ice for me has been is inexpensive, Kirkland-brand or Amazon purified water.
I am wondering how this machine is holding up. I have purchased two of the lower cost machines and have only gotten about three years of service life total service life from the two. I got an extra year of that by making one from the two, only about a year each. The problem is they use a small gear reduction motor to scoop and dump the ice into the bin. That motor is subject to rust and corrosion and fails in about a year. The two machines I purchased cost around two hundred US dollars the repair I did only cost me the time to do it, around three hours . So I am at the end of my three year service life, I won’t be able too repair it again. So after all that is said this unit uses gravity to put the ice in the bin so won’t need a new motor every year, which makes me think it is a better value . Do you concur?
I have a similar icemachine from tectake. Its operating the same way. I get clear ice from tap but i live in sweden and we have about the best tapwater in the world so its a bad comparison. What i usually do since its not breaking apart is filling a container up in the freezer with a metal scoop of some sort and just tap on the back of the icecubes, where they are frozen together. Good review. Would have bought if i were living in the us and didnt have an icemachine. Since i love my cuba libre and gin tonics packed with ice.
Ok so this for just making ice it's fine. For making ice for dad time, not so much. I like bigger really clear ice. Thanks for a great review. I have an ice maker and the ability to buy cubed ice. So this is a no for me IMO. Love love love you channel.
Keep up the content man, appreciate it! My own personal feedback, 1:43 to 2:28 was just repeat of stuff you already said and explaining a format that will be self-explanatory by the time you get to the end of the video. Unnecessary imo. I've had similar thoughts on other videos of yours where I've just ended up clicking away because it feels like going in circles but just wanted to say it so it's out there. Also your cigar rooms is goals!
I currently have a Frigidaire Model EFIC452-SS-CU. It can also do 40 pounds a day and my ice is clearer, I think it’s because I have a water softener in the garage and a reverse osmosis water filter under the kitchen sink (San Antonio, Texas has very hard water). I’ve been very happy with it. It does have the capability to change the size of the ice.
JUST the fact not one piece is CLEAR!!!!! Mean's it's a BUST. Sorry won't be looking to buy this lil guy.....maybe for the room just playing poker but otherwise....NAHHHHH!!!!
Gotta say... I am a new fan! I have liked, subscribed and clicked that little... bell...notification..thingy.. Two takeaways from this video: 1. The reaction to that bowl on the island nearly falling... It's happened to me far to many times. With my luck it would be my wifes great great grandmothers bowl that nearly shattered to smithereens. 2. Thanks for the notice after the two bourbons were poured... I stopped paying attention to you and was only concerned with "who will now partake in these tasty beverages?" Great content.. Now I''m back to watching more of your older videos!
I just picked one up at salvation army for $7.50. Clear ice from the first batch on florida tap water. Might've just needed to be run through a couple times. Loving it
For 250.00 I will stick to my Coleman that you introduced me too it does just fine for me and I have bags full of clear ice for anytime I want it. Thank you but no thanks. Great Video
Did you let it sit for an hour before starting it up? Tilting it on its side when you were unboxing tossed the refrigerant around which will slow it down significantly.
Out of curiosity when was the last time you changed the filter for the fridge water, prior to the test? Would a new filter maybe produce a better result?
I could be wrong but maybe the ice wasnt clear because you had the lid open the whole time and that would mean that air would get to it but with the lid closed maybe that wont happen just an idea who knows
I purchased this machine and I'm very very happy with the product. NewAir Countertop Clear Ice Maker, 40 lbs. makes CLEAR CLEAR CLEAR ice. If you're looking to buy a portable ice machine and you also want clear ice...This is the machine you want. thanks for making the video it helped me decide to buy this machine.
Great video. I like your cooler video for clear ice. If I want an ice maker then yes this is fine. If I want to chill with a drink & some friend & clear ice. I guess I'll have to make my own.
I have a different brand of ice maker. I use the ZeroWater filter, and the water is so free of mineral content that the sensors in the ice maker don't make a connection. I have to add a 1/4 cup of tap water just so it will conduct enough current to trip the sensors. Best filter ever!
you know spring water isn't actually filtered or anything, it's literally just water taken from the ground. So its still pretty terrible water. Water from your fridge is probably filtered better than spring water. What you should be using is bottled purified water if you want to make a fair comparison and reduce variance.
It’s not the nice big box of clear ice though it certainly is not making clear clear ice like you would get when you would freeze ice inside of a cooler for instants in your previous videos
I use reverse osmosis filtered water. Would that improve quality? BTW... you're vid on making crystal clear ice with a NSFW cooler (it's topless) was AWESOME!!! Works like a charm and no new appliance/used counter space.
you can probably get a cheap ice machine if you look for when a hotel or restaurant closes-- keep it in your garage and run the water off your cold water hose line... seems immensely better and now Summer is yours
It doesn't matter what kind of water you use; it will still trap air bubbles in a closed ice cube tray, like he said. This is a micro miniature version of commercial ice cube maker. The issue is that it's too vertical to prevent air entrapment. If you can hear the water "gurgling", it's trapping air. For $240; not on sale and being a compact counter top unit; it's not too bad of a product.
DjJtown he also switched from tap water to spring water then demonstrated that it came out more clear. By that reasoning distilled water should be even more clear than the spring.
If you don’t want your cubes stuck together subtract from the ice making timer. Mine has a setting that you can add additional minutes to the process for the thick stuff that comes in chunks or subtract time from the process for smaller cubes. Work with your timer function until you get the size you want. If you subtract enough time from the ice making process they don’t come out as one big block. My adjustability is in 1 min increments. Default is 0 if you set it to 1 it extends the ice making process 1 extra minute or -1 would be one minute subtracted from the process ETC. mine is the Frigidaire version which is identical to this one under the lid. Does yours not have this function??
Hey... could you help me out here? I'm really in trouble to convert Imperial system, your videos are perfect, would be even cooler and international friendly if you do! ^^
It looks like they come out almost hollow? The small size, and the hollow 'cube', look like they would melt very fast. For the money, it appears that I would rather make clear large cubes using your cooler, knife, and hammer method. ;-)
I’ve heard if you boil water then freeze it you will get clear ice. I haven’t tried it but would be cheaper then filling that thing with bottled water.
The issue with these type of home units is their compact design; vertical freezing interface (grid). Your commercial units use an slightly inclined freezing plate (about 15 degrees) that then heats up for the slab to slide onto a heated wire slicing grid. With that being said, if the freezing interface (grid) was inclined even at just 45 degrees, you'd get much clearer ice since the water would not be "falling" over the horizontal grids, which is trapping air that would have been eliminated by a less inclined plate.
Would love to see you revisit. You II had door open which affected ice maker. Also, new units need to be run much like refrigerators when you do new filter. Love your channel!!
Clear ice at home is best done in a directional freezing (lidless) cooler, and tailor to size. For cocktails, it’s fine. You’re doing it for the art anyway. That ice was not remotely clear. Even if you used distilled water.
Another great and fair video! Love your production quality Jeremy! I like your approach to this one of “heh I’m just gonna leave this review here for your viewing pleasure. Also, totally love the new office and media room setup.
Great review, but it's 9 in the morning and now I want on old fashioned.
This is how a legitimate ice machine works... a little tweaking and you have quality ice. This is a scaled down version of the Manitowoc ice machines used in hotels. I want one... and an old fashioned.
I have one its good
Jeremy, don't you think having the door to the ice maker open is effecting the results?
sasosaso3000 I thought the same at first but he also closed it and let it run to fill it, and it didn’t change
We have one of these bought about 2 years ago. Probably a different brand

I agree. Works pretty well if you need a lot of ice for a party or something. But definitely not without its flaws. 👍🏻
I'll stick with my $14 Coleman cooler. 100% clear every time. I can read the newspaper through it.
I prefer that method also. Actually have a video on it. 👍🏻
@@JeremySiers yup that makes the best clear ice and is worth the effort.
You are a genius, when questioned by my wife, 'on why I am drinking whiskey at 10am in the morning', I can argue the case for investigative science, 'ice comparison test' shall be my defense from now on.
i never thought clear ice is something i would be bothered about until i started watching this channel lol
Anybody else have there butt clinch when he almost knocked the bowl off the counter? 😂
I did for sure!! 😂😂
Yes
Yes.
I've been making blocks of clear ice using an Igloo cooler like your other video showed. Threw out all my ice trays.
Keep in mind clear ice isnt possible if your water supply is super hard. Use bottled or RO. Not hydroviv or fridge filters, those dont remove hard minerals. NO clear ice units can make clear ice outta hard water without an RO system

9:33 **No Bourbon was harmed or wasted in the filming of this video
Cheers mate🥃🥃
FYI: Have used this ice maker for going on 2 years as primary ice source in my home. Best water to use clearest ice for me has been is inexpensive, Kirkland-brand or Amazon purified water.
cloudy ice just means water has more air in it, just find ways to remove the air bubbles from it and even with tap water it should make it clear.
Use distilled or deionized water for best effects
Just watched this video and very well presented, I will give the icemaker a miss I think.

Asians have been using these for a long time. Very popular in small apartments without freezers.
You've leaned out man! Great video!
Thanks brother! 👍🏻
Trying to get that 6 pack back. 💪🏻
The Ice is not that clear and I'm not crazy about the ice cube size , too small.
Keep up the content man, appreciate it! Awesome brother, thanks! Glad your digging the content! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
And don’t worry, we don’t waste bourbon in this house. That is a cardinal sin 😂.
Definitely prefer the $13 plastic cooler large form factor method better. Thanks for posting.
totally agree with you
I just picked one up at salvation army for $7.50. Clear ice from the first batch on florida tap water. Might've just needed to be run through a couple times. Loving it
lol, no bourbon was harmed... haha, thanks for the review Jeremy. I just had ankle surgery so I need heat/cold options....
I have no tolerance for cloudy ice
Your production quality is much better than most around your sub count. Do you have experience with video production before this channel?
Thanks! Kinda started into all this right about the time I started this channel. 👍🏻
Good review, but None of those ice chunks are clear enough to warrant a stand alone appliance instead of my standard freezer
two and a half minutes of jibber jabber ng.and then the unboxi Why do so many on here talk and talk instead of just doing a review?
Sir how's the NewAir Portable Ice Maker Doing ????????
Am I the only one that noticed his fridge has a fucking window in it? Like, review that please.
Its been a year. How is the ice maker working now?
Out of curiosity when was the last time you changed the filter for the fridge water, prior to the test? Would a new filter maybe produce a better result?
too slow! other brand only 7 minutes!
I could be wrong but maybe the ice wasnt clear because you had the lid open the whole time and that would mean that air would get to it but with the lid closed maybe that wont happen just an idea who knows
Love the vids but.... hot sauce in the fridge?
Is it hand to clean
Try making ice using distilled water, which is available in jugs from your local supermarket. The cubes should come out crystal clear.
hell no! distilled water can kill you if you drink it
I have a 20lbs frigidaire in my basement bar and my kitchen fridge had an ice maker.
BUT I HAVE A 2000LBS UNIT AT THE RESTURANT.
Was thinkin. Wonder if normal ice cube t ray's plus a vibratior/s** toy in a bag under it could achieve a similar effect.
wth
Am I the only one that doesn't keep hot sauce in the fridge
Everybody: why are you now reviewing every item you get?
Jeremy: Money!
Since when was bourbon on the rocks a fancy cocktail?
I purchased this machine and I'm very very happy with the product. NewAir Countertop Clear Ice Maker, 40 lbs. makes CLEAR CLEAR CLEAR ice. If you're looking to buy a portable ice machine and you also want clear ice...This is the machine you want. thanks for making the video it helped me decide to buy this machine.
Great video. I like your cooler video for clear ice. If I want an ice maker then yes this is fine. If I want to chill with a drink & some friend & clear ice. I guess I'll have to make my own.
I have a small Igloo in my freezer right now. I'll stay with the $12 cooler. I appreciate that tip!
You almost broke that bowl didn't you
Looks like a Japanese rice cooker.
ZeroWater filters are what I use for my hard water. Ought to be sufficient for removing minerals from your water.
I have a different brand of ice maker. I use the ZeroWater filter, and the water is so free of mineral content that the sensors in the ice maker don't make a connection. I have to add a 1/4 cup of tap water just so it will conduct enough current to trip the sensors. Best filter ever!
Distilled water would be best, no minerals in it
I bought one like this, looks identical, but doesn't say New Air. I got it from Walmart for under $100. Works ok, only use it when I have guests over.
How has this ice maker aged for you?
I had this exact unit and it works ok but it’s not clear ice.
you know spring water isn't actually filtered or anything, it's literally just water taken from the ground. So its still pretty terrible water. Water from your fridge is probably filtered better than spring water. What you should be using is bottled purified water if you want to make a fair comparison and reduce variance.

"No bourbon wasted or damaged"...genius line.
😉
I use reverse osmosis filtered water. Would that improve quality? BTW... you're vid on making crystal clear ice with a NSFW cooler (it's topless) was AWESOME!!! Works like a charm and no new appliance/used counter space.
So you get your ice pushed out of cells and then pushed in again, or what do you mean with reverse osmosis?
you can probably get a cheap ice machine if you look for when a hotel or restaurant closes-- keep it in your garage and run the water off your cold water hose line... seems immensely better and now Summer is yours
You look different when you’re not sitting in your chair smoking a cigar.
Always look forward to your videos, brother
What If you used distilled water.

DjJtown he also switched from tap water to spring water then demonstrated that it came out more clear. By that reasoning distilled water should be even more clear than the spring.
What I took from this, plan ahead and make lots of ice in advance of needing it by using ice cube trays in a freezer. And Florida tap water is shit.
Would distilled water make a difference?
yes
I have this ice maker on my boat, died after 6 months, shitty support. Makes good ice when it works...
Lol, any reason to have t2o glasses of Whiskey is ok by me. Just for research that is :-)
I know this is a year old but where did you get your shirt? That thing looks awesome and super comfortable
Hey I have the same glasses in blue.
First world problems......clear ice that doesn't form cubes. Holy shit we are doomed.
Spring water is gross. It's just filtered ground water. Purified water is way better. Tastes better too.
If you don’t want your cubes stuck together subtract from the ice making timer. Another reason why Florida sucks. Hard water. The list keeps growing.
Hey... could you help me out here? I'm really in trouble to convert Imperial system, your videos are perfect, would be even cooler and international friendly if you do! ^^
I’ll start trying to remember to include that in the vids. 👍🏻
There are 946ml to the quart and 4 quarts to the gallon. There are 28 grams to the ounce and 16 ounces to the pound.
Hey brother you got to keep the lid closed once you open the freezer and your kitchen see how long your food stays Frozen
Not even close to clear. Totally worthless. Great idea though. But then so is a time machine.
It looks like they come out almost hollow? The small size, and the hollow 'cube', look like they would melt very fast. For the money, it appears that I would rather make clear large cubes using your cooler, knife, and hammer method. ;-)
If you use Zerowater filtered water, you will find your cubes will be clear.
I’ve heard if you boil water then freeze it you will get clear ice. I haven’t tried it but would be cheaper then filling that thing with bottled water.
Another great video Jeremy! Great appliance for parties and extra smoothy days. Clearish still works with a glass of bourbon! yes please!
Thanks!!! Looking forward to seeing you guys! 😘

DjJtown 45 degrees upward incline or downward incline
Great job and nice displays. Appreciate your time, and ignore the haters.
Soon you will have cornered the clear ice market completely..Ya ha ha ha
Would love to see you revisit. You II had door open which affected ice maker. Also, new units need to be run much like refrigerators when you do new filter. Love your channel!!
Very good professional presentation. Looks like a good ice maker.
"Clear ice" in the title with foggy ice in the thumbnail? Gives me brain freeze.

Nice video.
Hey man can you send me directions or send me a link on how to build a platform for a couch 🛋 like you build in your office please
Apparently if you boil the water first you get better results
Mine makes pretty clear ice, I have the Frigidaire model which is the same unit.
its taking longer because you have the door open
Your water was good enough for Ponce De Leon right?
Shitty ice.
Another great and fair video! Love your production quality Jeremy! I like your approach to this one of “heh I’m just gonna leave this review here for your viewing pleasure. Also, totally love the new office and media room setup.
