I was just informed by my parents who went to this noodle shop to just find it closed already. I stumbled upon this video when I was searching for HK style beef offal noodle soup recipe. I feel sad & old because it seems a lot of the stuff in Hong Kong that were familiar to me are disappearing fast. I wonder how much rent was the owner paying? I wish there were a noodle shop like this near me now.
I hope one day Hop Hing can open again. I will be a loyal customer always. Truly the best homemade noodle soup in HK. The kindest owner and the best environment. Wishing many blessings to you and the family.

If they opened in the 1960's they have been there over fifty years, not almost fifty years. Shame on the protesters also for adding to this family's problems.

But the land doesn’t belong to the local government, but the Tycoon. As population grows, land becomes scarce. Hence the high price of the property.

It’s hard to say if that would be true. A majority of the shops were open during the day time. A majority of the protest happened during the evening. That would only affect dinner sales. So who knows, maybe it could’ve helped or not.

Internally, many local shops don't make enough money to keep afloat and externally HK's role as the international financial hub has been replaced.
I just tell how it will be...Landlord didn't agree reduce the rent for this restaurant. They will start looking for a new renter. 1-2 months later they didn't find a new with acceptable price. And lease out the place to first renter with reduced rent. But restaurant what worked here 50 years will not be there.

This is one of the most beloved restaurant in HK. If I was the landlord of that place I would be honored to have him as a tenant as he had been loyal for so long. Most landlords in Korea have been reducing rent to share the burden of this pandemic and the government has been giving tax breaks for those landlords. Sad, but there is nothing we can do with that. May the landlord be blessed with consideration and concern to their renters. After this covid 19, hope that every sinlge food business will rise again and start anew. There is surely silver lining behind every clouds we see.

50 years selling noodles?you make at least million?you can afford a few months rentals.
According to the logic of some comments here, the shop owner should instead thank the protesters for vandalising his business to achieve his greater freedom.
