Wow! You, sir, are a saint. I cannot believe the amount of attention to detail and quality camera work you put into this video. So clear and well explained. If you ever get tired of working on cars you can be a professional instructional video producer or something. Wow. Awesome work. Thanks so much for making this. My front right inner CV axle boot exploded today on my 2011 Rogue exactly like what happened in this video. I don't have the tools or lift equipment to be able to do it myself but now I know exactly what needs to be done and I'll know if anybody is trying to rip me off or feed me some BS. Thanks so much! You just gained a new subscriber :)
I just completed this job and I must say that the video you made is amazing. You are the man. I am an amateur and it took lots of patience and perseverance but I managed to finish the job. The only issue is that the area behind the rotor, when the wheel spins is making a bit of a noise because of all of the rust in the area. I took it for a spin and that little noise is beginning to disappear. I will apply some car brake cleaner tomorrow and see if that helps. Thanks a million.
I read through a bunch of comments to not reiterate information but I used to manufacture the 3 legged part inside the boot and we called them spiders. Not sure why but the teeth inside are called splines and the reason it fits one way but not the other is that they are cut at a taper. Not flat. On the shaft and the spider to match. Your 100% correct they need to go ONE way. Great video. You told right. I just thought my comment would explain why. I do have a 2009 rouge. Love your vid 👍🏼 liked.
I watched this video after seeing your comment on the 1A Auto video and this job went from a I'm gonna take it somewhere to a yeah I can do this. Very well done and thanks for the great video.
This is the first video I have seen on RUclips changing the inner cv boot by partially removing the CV axle. Leaving the transmission still plug up with part of cv axle prevents the transmission oil from spilling out. An innovative move but with less working space when installing back the CV axle.
One of the best detailed vids on boot replacement. I do my own i made more work for my self by taking complete axle out unbolted bracket from engine few years back now i know you can break it from the hub that the boot seats with iner clip releasing tri pod bearings. Australia X-Trail T30 boot $23 3 hours labour. Can't believe price's I'm seeing in comments 😮
Thanks for showing the exact tools and socket sizes! Saves a lot of return trips to autozone. Also the correct alignment was helpful. Think I can tackle this now. Agree with others, best repair vid on you tube so far. 👍

it takes a LOT of work to make my videos high quality. Which is why i don't post new videos as often as i would like. i have about 15 videos taking up about 1 terra byte of space on my PC that i have not even edited yet. I do enjoy making them though. Thanks for your support i really appreciate it.
Bro, I am a videographer and I was looking for a good video to fix my moms car and your video is was really good filmed and explained. Great job on those videos. Thanks
Nice job! I would suggest an alignment since you removed the strut bolts. Just a little amount of camber movement will affect the alignment toe readings. To minimize toe and camber movement, you can remove the lower ball joint instead of the strut bolts. A little more work since you now have to separate the ball joint and maybe tie rod too. If you plan on doing an alignment, then I would probably do it the way in this video.
Really good instructional video. Very clear, very detailed. Even though I ordered the CV axle I'm considering doing this instead to avoid hassling with that potentially frozen bearing holder. One question though: Given how thick that grease is, why not fill the metal cup with it before inserting the bearings? It doesn't seem like it can drain out during reassembly.
Nissan part number nissan c97da-ja00k (for AWD, I believe FWD is a different #). Local dealer price was $41 as of Jan 2020 and they had it in stock. Cheapest online price I since found is $32. You won’t get a generic aftermarket boot to fit as it needs that weird profile on the larger internal end of the boot you can see clearly. This video is great BTW. My boot had only a tiny split, and I didn’t need to remove the three rollers off the spider. Finally, the Nissan kit is great; it’s got the fantastic stainless OEM retaining rings (much better than wire ties) and a big tub of CV grease.
There are crooks in the NTB service who lie about the price of replace on new axle as well as the cost of labor. They put in 2 hours of labor where 1 hour costs $ 127. All in all it cost me $ 500. Time of replace of brand new axle cost no mere than 30 min. When I wanted to see the old axle that had been replaced because of a damaged axle boot, they showed it to me. When I told them I wanted to get it, they refused to give it to me. But after an increased tone on my part, they gave in and gave it to me. I will now replace the axle boot with this repair kit and will haves a backup axle.
Lots of times they keep the old axle to send back as a core. They are often re manufactured using the old parts. if the Dealer to repair shop does not return the old part they get charged extra money.
thanks so much for thise video , it help me install the new replacements, and save a lot of money , instead of paying , those little hints were absolutey GREAT!!!!!!! too many other videos forget those small hints , saves making mistakes that could cost to the repairs due to accidental added processes. i will be looking for more , especially on honda crx , i try to do all of my own repairs and maintenance , im thinking of repairing my clutch plate and pressure plate, well , thank you again , ciao 4 now

Awesome DIY dude!!! I subbed and don't even have a Rogue.... wish you could do some DIY's for the R35 GTRs.... Thanks for being extremely informative! -Brandon
Most shops these days use a stretch boots and a boot expander tool or for DIY just a cheap fitting cone no need to dismantle the pot joint or remove the shaft from the car works for both inner pot joints and outer CV joints.
any chance you have the part number for the clips on the inner closeout panel? Great video, I replaced the RH inner boot a couple months a go and today the the LH inner boot was dripping grease on the garage floor. Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed video.
I checked other 2013 Nissan Rogue tutorial and they unscrew the 1 bolt in the bottom arm control bracket instead of the 2 bolts in the strut. Can I use your method for my 2013 Nissan rogue because it seems harder to remove the bolt in the arm control than the 2 in the strut?
Awesome job I had one seize a few months back parts labor and tax was 585 they also changed the bracket does that sound correct Nissan however did not reimburse me for the parts since a private garage did the job
The mechanic book gives .3 hr labor to replace the entire axle which is 51 bucks. The axle from Advance with discount is 64 bucks. You only need to drop the lower control arm(One bolt and a lever), tap out the axle(33mm nut) and turn the brake to release it then take two clip bolts out and replace in the same order and torque the main shaft bolt to 138 ft pounds.. QUICK AND EASY
Looked it up the boot kit ios 33 bucks -HALF the cost of the entire axle- labor for boot is .6 hrs- double that of the entire axle replacement.. So why do just the boot?
@@gotNoMama aftermarket Axles usually cause horrendous vibrations. There is a reason a new Nissan axle costs 800 dollars. Drive a rogue with a cheap auto zone axle in it and you will kick yourself for not just repairing the OEM axle. Occasionally you get a good aftermarket axle, but not very often. Are you willing to pay to do the job twice?
Also there is nothing quick and easy about getting a axle out of a hub on a 10+ year old vehicle from the northeast. Most times it requires air hammer. Also the lower ball joint pinch bolt is often seized in the knuckle so that approach is very flawed. Best and easiest is to undo it at the strut, this works 100% of the time.
